View Full Version : Suggestion for new players reguarding parties.

It has been my observation that so many new players prefer the "go it alone" approach but that is not necessarily the best way to pay the game all of the time.
The most often reason given for rejecting party invites that I have seen is that new players believe that they are not getting as many experience points for mobs.
Where as that may in fact be true, in the long run you actually get a lot more exp when you are in a party because there are many making a contribution as opposed to 1 and there is less chance of getting killed and that starts to make a big difference after level 10 because you will start losing exp if you get killed.
Every character type has their strengths and weaknesses so a good party should be of different types of characters.
A Mage can cause incredible damage to mobs at a distance but they don't do so well in close combat.
Archers can inflict devastating bleeding damage and poison damage on mobs but again, not so good at close combat.
Fighters are the close combat masters and incredibly tough to damage due to their high strength and endurance.
And a Cleric is a very good thing to have on your team for close combat and for healing and to repetitiously cast party protection spells.
You will be very glad to have a Cleric on your team if you ever get hit with bleeding damage, disease or poison because they can keep you alive and even resurrect you in higher levels.
The Fighters and Clerics are strong but they have a major weakness which is they cannot attack from a distance which leaves them vulnerable to multiple simultaneous attack by aggressive mobs.
(It also means that they are prime targets for Ksing by Mages and Archers)
So my recommendation to new players or the anti-social is not to get hung up on the "go it alone" approach because it will eventually work against you in the long run.
Just my opinion.

Remember that a lot of times exp per time is more important than exp per kill. If it takes your party 30~ seconds to kill a mob and you get 120 exp for it, that isn't bad, but consider that there are probably some mobs somewhere that you can kill in 10~15 seconds and get 80~100 exp for. The first scenario is about 14k exp per hour but the second scenario is twice that. Also, mobs respawn super fast in this game so you can grind effectively with a small camp of mobs.

It may not be exp or even anti-social tendencies that cause some people to reject party invites. I have declined parties because I am out harvesting potion/scroll materials and in party mode the drops seem to be distributed rather than individual.

I can't say how this is SUPPOSE to work, but I can say it does not seem to be a consistent process yet because when I am partied with my daughter it will sometimes give drops to her that I nab and vice-versa, yet at other times it seems to give me three or four in a row.

Regardless, when I am out for drops I am not interested in partying.

It is because you set loot rules to sequencial alocation, in that case no mater who pickup the drop, it goes to each members of the group one after the other. This can be annoying when you're after quest drops, but in the end, it is fair to all group members. While in free alocation, it is tough for ranged people to get anything, as the melees tend to pickup everything that drop at their feets.

Grouping has always been a better thing for me. If I solo on Bats in Moonlight Tomb, when I party the kills come a lot faster. Thus more exp taken in. Yes it may seem reduced compared to soloing, that's where you go find higher level spawns and kill those as a group, thus giving you the same (if not more) exp per kill.

what about the sharing exp part..
I am a cleric.. If I party with others..
they attacking, and I heal them..
Is the exp evenly shared out?
what about different lvls between us..

and idea?

Ive noticed at lvl 14, I get 1-2 xp per kill when in a party while killing 12-15xp monsters. I prefer to solo after 7, and I got to 14 in 3 hours.
