Any monster and it tends to be the first one you kill too.

i got my key off a boar... i took me like 5 kills though

I got my key from a ratman. Took a few kills also.

i did the job change with 3 characters and i got it from a ratman every time - twice from the first one i killed, once i had to kill two to get it :)

I got mine off the 2nd Boar I killed. Killed like 6-10 Phinos before I decided to go to grey named creatures...

the shadowkey is dropped on regular phinos that spawn right next to the guy who gives you the quest at first i tried to kill smart phinos but they dont drop it
