Auction houses do many things:
1) decrease server lag - less connections means better server performance
2) decrease client lag - the hardware requirements to display 400+ houses in town is too much for even high-end computers
3) decrease power consumption - if I can turn off my computer for 8-12 hours a night, I can save myself a lot of money
Other than the required coding for auction houses, there is no real downside to them.

I, and probably many other people, totally agree. Outspark and the Fiesta team are probably working on it right now. The problem is, they don't like to let out the little secrets of what they're working to improve... ;)

I agree, auction houses are the best way in ANY game to handle the player economy. And GAWD YESSSSS...cuts down on the number of houses in the town. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Totally agree, have suggested this elsewhere as well. Would really solve a ton of lag issues just hopefully they actually pay attention to some of the ideas people keep posting.... the 2 biggest in my opinion atm auction system and ignore list!!! lol

Auction houses or the like are a good idea.
It would also help with the economy, being able to sell more than 5 items at a time, and a unified 'auction house' would lead to greater competition in prices, as all the prices are put together and can be easily compared.

Also, would free up people to actually PLAY their characters instead of being stuck in a mushroom house.
Another idea would be like the game goonzu does. When you open your store, it shows above your head, only you CAN move, fight etc. However most are on alts and sit in one spot anyhow.
Or maybe just a market zone, instead of mushroom houses, can have organized stalls depending on what you're selling. You'd list what you want to sell and would be assigned a stall for it. Have sections for stones... potions..scrolls....etc. Even a misc section as well for those who sell multiple catagories. Would make it easier to find and still maintain the basic theme of how selling is done now.
Of course, this, like any other idea may sound great, but might be impossible to program :)

ASCIIrider do you play FFXI? That sounds just like the Auction House over there. An auction system would be nice right now it's a pain in the *** to shop around town with so many houses cramped all together.

If the developers dont want to mess with making an Auction house, they could just put in an Open map, that players could get to from Each town. Just walk up to the Port NPC who sends you to the Vendor Map. You could set up shop there, or go buy what your wanting from there.
No monsters would be in this map. Set it up to where you can only set up stalls in certain places. So that players can easily move up and down the rows of Stalls.
It would be VERY laggy on this map, but it would free up the towns, because once this map was set up, then make it to where you can only set up shops there.
Or at least the sell shops. Maybe allowing the Buy shops to set up in maps with monsters might be ok, unless it gets out of hand, then it could be changed easily.
and in Roumen. set it to where players can only set up buying shops in certain areas. This way it keeps the routes clear for other players to keep playing.
Now back to the Vendor map, there should be a Port NPC there, who will port you back to the LAST town you came from. This would prevent players from using the Vendor map as a way from moving town to town without a Tele scroll. So the map doesnt become Congested with players running town to town.
Anyways, thats my 2 cents on this.

this is a very good thing to do.
we could put items that we want to sell in this auction house and put a price tag on it then only check if anybody bougth the stuff.
that would really make the fungoes invading cities to desappear!
100% support.
you could even use the warehouse to do that.
putting an option like items to sell and another to check the auction house if we wanna buy things from other players.
good thinking! keep putting new ideas to this already wonderfull game.
Respect!

Remember, Goonzu stole that from FFXI.
But yeah they need an alterior method of sales here.

FFXI has the best buying/selling system of any game I've ever played.
The AH, and the baility to have a bazaar (sell items directly from your inventory AND be able to move around) is just wonderful.
I would love if other games mimicked the system.. but don't outright copy it ><;; (Goonzu!!)
Giving players the choice to set up a shop and vend, or to put them into an AH, or to have the bazaar would greatly improve the game.
I guarantee that more people would play, donate, etc if just little improvements were made to the game like that. ^^

Auction house: Yes.
Bazaar zone: No.
Why?
Auction house = less lag + less time shopping = more time gaming :-)

that was the point of the bazaar system marle. you can set up what you want to sell without interrupting your gameplay. you could still party and things, the only difference was that when people checked you they had an option to go to your bazaar.
see the only thing that i see wrong with fiestas system is that it has no central economic system, people make more selling things to npcs, but just as quickly spend it all at the same npc! nobody really knows what things are trully worth because everyone knows that npcs sell high and buy extremely low.
you can buy erlues from the npc for 250c each, but you can sell the ingrediance for 3c a piece. it takes 9 ingrediance to make 1 erlue which if you do the math 9X3 is 27c. anybody with a littlle common sense would want to make a little profit from it so they would normally sell for 150c or more, cheaper then the npc but more then selling to the npc. i point this fact out because thats not the normal trend i see. erlues can run from 25-300c when sold from mushroom vendor, you see the reason y you see such price differences is because there is no base for which we have to go buy to sell.
auction houses have been know to fix this problem, because you can see what other people are charging for the same item your selling, but it also has bad reprocutions. things such as uncontrollable inflation or a more discrete way for RMT providers to sell and advertise. the main cause for inflation is, ironicly enough, "gold sellers" taking over a product on Auction houses and driving up prices.
but still i think an auction house system would be a great idea, but becareful how its made because it can make or break a really good MMO.
