Real world +9 vs. un-enhanced weapon comparisons and a question about +9 shields

ok, we all know that that huge yellow number in parentheses when you +9 a weapon is not the "actual" damage that is added to the weapon (we'll call this "outspark math" later in the topic).

in my comparisons dealing strictly with +9 hammers vs. un-enhanced hammers with comparable stats it breaks down to the +9 (not including critical hits) killing a mob in 1 less swing than a un-enhanced hammer(i.e. 5 hits with a +9 vs. 6 hits with a regular/green hammer.

looking at the def bonus for +9 shields that yellow number is significantly smaller than the bonus you get for +9ing a weapon.

so, has anyone compared numbers for player damage with a un-enhanced shield vs. a +9 one and come up with some hard numbers?? if so i'd really like to hear if the same "outspark math" applies to the shield bonus defense.

also, i've seen alot of people lately shouting in game to buy +8 shields and not +9 shields??? is this from a monetary perspective (lack thereof) or is the defense bonus between +8 and +9 on a shield near to negligible as compared to +8 and +9 weapons.

myself personally goes by the opinion that at least with weapons the more damage the better no matter how much it costs.

+8 aren't as expensive, they're usually more common, and they have a different look to them that many enjoy more.

The difference on a +8 to a +9 shield is a small jump in defense...... maybe 20-30 points? Whereas the difference on dmg. from a +8 to +9 is much higher......my lvl 70 GH 2h sword got a jump in dmg. from +329 (or something like that) to +526 (or something close to it XD) by enhancing it to +9......hope this helps....

I did around 160 damage with a +0 xbow and around 250 damage with a +9 xbow.

I only took my shield to +8 entirely for looks. It the wings were the +9 effect, I'd have +9d it. It's not that big a Def bonus in relation to the amount I'd spend getting it to +9, so I'd rather have it look the way I prefer.

Ive already done all this work. The damage bouns from enhancing is applied to your minimum and maximum rage on attacks. Like str gears.

thanks for the replies, i might +9 my lv60 shield and do the math myself.
would be nice if there was some kinda stat calculator where you could plug in numbers from gear and see the effects. but meh, whatever... *goes back to grinding*
