You are not the only one that is angry and frustrated with the enchantment process.
90% of the players don't even bother to do it anymore or if they do it is seldom beyond enchantment level +3.
A lot of people have figured out that it is a waste of money if you are below lev 20 and simply not worth the risk involved for a minor gain.
The worst part is when someone does manage to get a weapon up to +4 or +5 and then on the next try it starts downgrading until it breaks it makes for some very angry players and they are not likely to repeat that experience again.
Which is bad for me because I can't sell the lix I make.
I can barely sell the elru I make but no one is willing to pay anything over 30c for that either.
I am not even going to bother converting elru to lix anymore until they do something about that retarded system of enchanting.
Just my opinion.

How does enchanting even work? I've only attempted it twice, both times the flashing box lined up on the opposite side of my scroll and upgraded it +1 with a line or something. Are there any special effects to the other 7 boxes? Also, what + does a weapon have to be before it glows?

You got lucky twice. The whole point is to try to guess where the rotation will stop and have your stone sitting opposite it. If it does land opposite your stone, the upgrade succeeds. Thing is, if it doesn't stop opposite your stone, it fails, you lose the stone and you risk two things happening. 1) the item could downgrade (i.e. go from +3 to +2) and 2) it could outright BREAK and if it was a +6 you were trying to get to +7, well guess what, you're SOL.

Glowing starts at +3 and gets more pronounced w/ more effects the higher you go.
