my main character is a cleric so I do not normally tank, so to be honest I don't know what or how you are supposed to do it. This question comes up now as I watched someone in a similar situation get ripped by the other players in a KQ, because he was asked to tank and messed it up but he said he did not know what he was doing, too be honest he was getting some pretty conflicting advice from the other players on how he was meant to do it, while one was saying use snearing kick another was say just keep hitting the 1 button, keep attacking it. so I'm just wondering what the tips are for being a tank before I get asked to do it

If you've never tanked for a party before, or KQ, then its probably best to let a more experienced player do it first while you observe. Nothing like a party making it to the boss and having an inexperienced tank wipe the whole team :S

Generally, if you have the highest HP/Defense, you would be considered the MT (main tank).

The most important thing to remember as a tank, is agro control. If the tank loses agro, heads will roll, because DPS classes cannot tank at all and most likely die in 1-2 hits. So the tanks job is to keep agro on them, while the damage dealing classes dish out their dmg.

Clerics for the most part don't tank as they don't have the taunt that fighters do, therefore keeping the aggro on themselves.

However as a cleric myself there have been times in the Mara KQ where I've had to tank. Basically a tank is the one who takes the damage and the clerics heal them. I've been lucky enough to have been able to keep aggro on Mara and Marlone, and have enough other clerics to keep me from dying.

Sometimes it's unavooidable that a cleric will tank, my example above was when I was level 23-25, with a full END cleric, and the highest fighter was level 19 or so. I had the highest HP and DEF, so Guess who got volunteered? :)

It's not just clerics that may fil lthe role either. in The King Slime KQ, Once an archer had to tank because of zero fighters, and very low level clerics in the quest.

Mages o nthe other hand should NEVER tank, they can't survive it.

Someone should also note that it wouldnt be a good idea for any class except fighters to tank because Fighters learn the taunt skill. If you dont use the taunt skill on the boss you are fighting and others proceed to attack it. People will start dying I learnt this the hard way when we were in a KQ and the tank had no idea what to do.

This is why I'm asking how to tank, I'm not asking how to tank with a cleric (which I have done successfully) but with a fighter, as I have a fighter and he is getting to that level where I am going to be asked to tank, I don't want to screw it up and learn how to do it the hard way, so I'm just asking for tips but with what Andromeda says, I'm probably not the only one that could do with them.:)

If you are the main tank just make sure for the love of god that you use the taunt skill on the boss or there is a roughly 80% chance your team will fail the quest. Clerics have no need to tank if there are fighters present but it wouldnt hurt to have a cleric tanking the Queen Slime while leaving the main tank for the King Slime. If it comes down to it
