Real life shows us just how hard you are working on issues when things go wrong.

Im one of those Ike-disaster area people.
Just now got power back. Lots hundreds of dollars in food items, got sick, hungry cus I coudlnt fricken find the FEMA POD location, eaten up my mosquitoes, ants, spiders... you name it, it bit me. Hot, miserable...
But got my power back. And Im here to tell you guys how this real life situation can tell you stuff about Outspark.

If you know anything about this, youll know there was severe damage to the power lines. Take this as, severe damage to the servers for Outspark (theoretically). While FEMA tided us over, states sent in their technicians to work hard on resolving the issue, much like how Outspark floods in its staff members (GMs and such) to resolve the server issues.
It was miserable. It reminded me of the time waiting for Fiesta to get back up. But ya know.. it.. well it actually made the time go by faster (and I be it actually made the technicians work harder), when those that could call into radio stations and such... instead of complaining "WE WANT POWER BACK DXxxxx nyaaaaaaaaaa!!!!".. no.. instead we called in "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Youre working so hard ;~; We still dont have power, but youre out there all day pulling 16-18+ hour shifts with little to no breaks".
Now this reminded me of a gm quote of the day, where dakkon said "long maintenance bad.. sleep good..." I bet they pull just as long shifts.

While the situational needs are different.. I been wanting to post something like this for a while.. ut we should all really be greatful to them for working hard. We sit in here and we complain...

I wonder if.. if we will ever CHEER Outspark on instead of just whine and moan...
Prolly never happen.. but ya know an ignorant stubborn jerk like me can hope

TY Outspark :P GMs, CSRs, CLs, GLs, and whatever other types of staff members you got that work so hard. TY
(oh btw love all the quest fixes, should help my magey lvl :P)

I sympathise with the troubles you have suffered and am glad you are here to tell the story. However I am sorry relating the 2 is a bit iffy. I feel if the electricity company had taken MONTHS to resolve your issue you would not think so kindly of them. If they told you, yes it will be fixed next week, and next week came and went I am sure you would not think so kindly of them. I am also sure if you had not been kept up to date with the progress you would not think so kindly of them.

So kudos to you and again I am glad you survived the horrors but cant really see that relating the two works.

Glad to hear you came out of it allright. I agree with you very much so. I have never understood how people can sit there and say they don't care and they don't work hard. How do they know? Are they spying on all the GM's with mini cams?

I like to compare it to my boyfriend. He runs two IRC networks, and I have heard people complain time and again that he doesn't talk enough. He's never there, blah blah etc. He works his butt off to keep those networks running and I know because I SEE him do it. He gets on the computer right when he gets home from work. Heck sometimes I have to drag him away to spend time with me. :P So I never Assume how hard people "seem" to be working behind the scenes.

And like your power which I'm sure took some time, so does fixing some of the issues on Fiesta I'm sure. Especially when there are a lot of them at once! Everyone seems to have a "I want it now!" attitiude.

That's just my 2 cents, like I said glad to have you back!

Yeah actually the two relating is quite accurate.

Fiesta hasnt taken MONTHS to fix anything. Most of the problems are resolved within a week, or two weeks later. And if not completely resolved, then resolved to a running order.

Ill use our water availability instead of electricity for that example. Here they allowed water access so we could have water, but they werent sure it was 100% working or ok, therefore they sent out an advisory: boil all water. This is just like how fiesta somewhat fixed the blues problem, them said not to traffic in anyway with blues for the near future til its resolved.

And I work with HTML, as Im so profound to remind people. I know computers, at least websites through the internet wise. Youll almost never see me actually work on a website. Im my class for it, literally.. I played games. No one ever saw me work on my website. Even my best friend swore up and down that I owuld fail it, simply because he wasnt right there to see me working on it. But lo and behold when it came time I usually had the best working one with the least flaws.

Point being, like Brightly said.. that sums it up.

;~; and btw its so good to be back, even tho i found out about 5 friends left, 5 more got banned for unknown reasons, and i cant get ahold of a whole swath more. ;~;

I was in the path of Ike, it was nothing , just some wind and rain big whoop lol , unless you lived in Galveston , then it really sucked for you

Well glad that your ok and have power on now, hopefully you will be able to get some decent food to take care of yourself and anyone else thats with you and I'd think that the last place I would go once I got power back was to a game but we all have our priorities.

I can appreciate the atempt at a comparison but its a distant one at that. Your not only dealing with power failure issues but also water, sewer, trash pick up, telephone, cable and thats only on the utility end. Beyond this theres the issue for community services such as ems, fire and rescue, police, and transportation, hospital services, veterinary services. This is followed by businesses wich the most critical is gas and grocery and then everything else comes behind that.

At most OS has to worry about bad coding, server failure, network failure, and cash shop issues wich all could be resolved in a short time except for network issues wich some can take months to resolve. With what your in lives are lost and I mean real ones not a pixel life as is here and a crisis is real outside of Fiesta as opposed to in it so really the comparison really isnt there but only in a loose theory.

Actually, I was dead in the path of Ike, and it was not just nothing.
Galveston is completely destroyed. The power lines are so damaged theyre predicting it will be uninhabitable for at least a month. Power was generally down for everyone in the area for a week. Fences were torn up, roof shingles were ripped up and flown about. Huge strong trees were torn to shreds, some are even looking like they might die.

There was a tiger loose on the remains of crystal beach, and there are alligators infesting the waters here now (Im sure there were some before, but you rarely, if ever, saw them. Now you can clearly find them if you go to the bay).

And the Hurricane didnt just go for Galveston and WOOP stopped.
No.
It tore through galveston, and tore right through Houston. Particularly I think they said it went straight through downtown houston, but seeing as how the entire storm was rivaling the size of texas and the "hurricane force" winds extended out 400+ miles from the eye, I would take it huge damage.

The Chase building in Houston.. all its windows went kersplat, desks out in the roads, chairs and papers and filing cabinets thrown about.
And now that people are getting electricity back, have you actually gone to a Walmart? Theres barely any meat products. No milk. barely any fruits/veggies. Now its a battle to get food Dx

Well its nice to see that some players empathise with the Outspark staff. Customers or patrons of a particular service might be insensitive at times because everybody only thinks about his or herself first and as such he or she wants to be dealt with first. Unfortunately, that's one of those cons of being in the service industry. Nonetheless, its nice to see customers who actually empathise with the people who provide the service.

Glad to hear you came out of this alright. I personally think it was great of you to think this way and post this about the OutSpark staff. Sadly, lately, many people have been complaining about OutSpark, yet, they don't know anything about what they're doing. The problems we are having in games aren't as easy to fix as people think. You don't just go in and flip a switch to turn the glitch/bug off like you would a light. You actually have to find the problem, then fix it. Though, what's happening to you is way more important than anything going on in Fiesta. Anyway, I thought it was a really nice thing to do to post something like this. Good luck to you and the rest of the people affected by Ike.

Well its winds extended 250 miles from the storm not 400 and only 150 from the eye. Houston got some tornados, its not really that bad if you think about Katrina hitting new orleans, sure it was bad here , especially since im used to weather up north, but if you ask some of the texans here, they said it won't do much. Which it didn't , Galveston is an island what you expect something 1000 times+ bigger to do to it lol.

Ikes strength went far and wide.

Sunday it hit the Ohio river valley and combined with a cold front there to knock out power to 526,000 residents because of high winds and that wasnt even where the bulk of the storm went through as it plowed north of there through Michigan and into Canada rolling across Windsor London and Toronto.

Its kind of hard to sympathize with OS server staff when they do things like move servers on a holiday weekend and dont stick around to see how it goes and then compensation for all the issues is a temporary cash shop item.

Houston got some tornados,
Lol 1) there werent tornadoes. They were hurricanes. Wow you need to get some terminology right.
2) Youre only posting back to this so rudely because atm youre angsty because you keep -repping me "just because"
3) I watched the news beforehand. The statistics were more than that. In my original hurricane thread I have it directly linked to the news footage
4) You claim it wasnt so bad, but apparently you either really dont live in the area, or wasnt in the path, or youre just being stubborn about it. I didnt ave power for 5 days. My bf who is just down the road still doesnt have power. It was more than "just a thunder storm" event, or maybe you havent seen the news?

Yeah, liek I keep saying I work in html, which is somewhat like game code in that aspect. When theres a problem with a website, you have to open the original code, and go through it letter by symbol by piece and figure out whats wrong. If you cant find it, then you have to begin tweaking other codes to figure out where the screw up is.
And then when you find it, you have to fix it.. which this usually results in a "fix it, test it, nope.. still wrong.. fix it, test it, nope.. still wrong.." over n over til it turns out right.

I remember when I was doing colors on a website from scratch. I didnt have a color wheel or chart, and had to use the RRGGBB scale. I originally meant to make purple, but ended up with a really bad looking brown. Dx It took me an hour of guess n check to find the right color.

I've seen the news , mainly flooding, and there was a report of a tornado in Houston if you watched the news you would know that as well as some of my friends who LIVE there.

Guys, chill out. The point of the thread is not to emphasize what hit where, it was to show support for Outspark Staff in working through a crisis.

Can we go back on topic?

Sorry, I was too busy fixing my fence, picking up debris, and helping out the neighborhood while I had NO POWER instead of sitting in my cozy house watching tv..

-.-

But yeah like now I see recently ppl are complaining about premium bags not working.. And I know outspark have said theyre working on it, but everytime i check the forusm I see someone complaining about OH MY BAG DOESNT WORK.. like its really gonna make it go faster...

In a quote from one of my favorite CLs, "If you ain't ticking somebody off, you ain't doing your job right."

Once again...thank you Outspark for all your hard work, for your undying support of the players, and for being one of the best gaming companies I have ever experienced.
