The game screen is inexplicably three inches to the right. This makes it difficult to play, and although I'm guessing the problem is with the computer itself, I'm hoping that some kind soul might see this thread and give me a hand.

It sounds like you're using an analog (CRT) monitor. With them, each screen resolution needs to be adjusted for size and pisition from your monitor's built in controls.
Quick fix for this is, to load the game, press ESC and go to graphics options, and set the resolution to the same as your desktop.
