View Full Version : Sudden Shutdown

Okay, I've posted this issue before and it was dismissed as a bad Internet connection. And it isn't. If it was just a bad connection I should be getting "Disconnected from Server" or whatever the message may be... or I'd probably just freeze mid-game. I do play on wireless but I am able to play long periods without disconnecting or lagging.

The problem is that the game shut down without any warning whatsoever, no error message, nothing. To top it off when the game crashes like so all other parts of my computer ceases to work properly. I cannot shut down nor restart so I am forced to manually press the power button until the laptop goes off.

I didn't have this sort of problem until the recent patches (no idea which one). Aside from the odd termination the game runs very smoothly, little to no lag. For further information I am able to play other games just fine. No random crashes or anything. I can play a more graphic intensive game than Fiesta, open Photoshop and a web browser with no problem.

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1

I'm having the same problem, except that I'm still able to go back to the desktop without my computer being frozen. My game closes, without any sign and/or warning, and nothing shows up after Fiesta shuts down.

However, this one time I did get a message after the game shut down, and it said something about "Fiesta.bin" having some error.

Windows XP Professional
RAM 1GB
Graphic Card: ATI RADEON X1300
Display Memory 514MB

The game runs just fine without any lag, but I seem to be getting this sudden shutdown almost every 10 minutes and it's becoming really frustrating. And before the recent patch, I could play for 5 hours straight without any problems.

I'll appreciate if anyone can help

Sean.

well i am having almost the same problem. But it only crashes when i go to collapsed prison with any of my character, once i go there, it crashes. But i can play normally with my other chars in other maps. So yeah my char is kinda stuck in collapse prison >.< Hope someone know a solution for this.
I'll add my system info soon if its needed.

thanks in advance

@Siegefrid: My computer isn't frozen per se. I can move around and "try" to open programs but I'm not about to sit infront of my laptop for more than an hour just to open Firefox.

It seems that Fiesta is a HUGE resource hog (not that I didn't know that). I play it right after it starts up so I have virtually no programs running except those that are necessary. And it still tell me that when it crashes and try to re-open that I don't have enough memory to run it. Not to mention the loathsome X-trap I seem to be getting now as well...

I really don't know how to help you guys on this one...

I just know that Vista isn't the best Operating System to be running Fiesta on.
[Also Wireless isn't such a good idea, but you're right it's not the cause of the problem]

Have you guys tried completely removing Fiesta from your comps and getting a fresh install? That is all that I can think of, besides the fact you're running off of Vista.

And if you know how to get to "Event Viewer" on vista, let me know. The error might be getting saved there.

I'll try re-installing but this problem did appear before I re-installed the new launcher. Vista, I know is a problem with a lot of the programs but I have been playing with little problem for some time now. Aside from the game hanging when I try to log off there isn't anything else to report about it.

I do agree wireless isn't the best thing but if I can play several consecutive hours and even overnight vend with no problem I'm sure it's fine.

And I can get to the Event Viewer, just let me know what info you'll need.

I don't know if this will register on the event viewer or not... But run Fiesta and when it "Suddenly Shuts down" open the event viewer and look for the latest errors/warning and see if any are relating to Fiesta, X-Trap, or anything like that.

Alright. I'll post again if I find it.

Okay so the sudden shutdown occurred once again and there was an event log:

Level: Warning
Source: Win32k
General: Failed to create a desktop due to desktop heap exhaustion.

This was the only thing that happened right when it crashed/shutdown/disappeared. Don't really know what this means cause... I had nothing else running.

I have same problem about shat down problem.
Last night, I got froze in Vine Tomb and try to relog, but couldn't close fiesta property, so I decided close by ctl+alt+del. After that happened, couldn't log in and no connections, so try to restart computer, but never shat it down.
I got froze problem only last night, but I always get shat down problem after play Fiesta.
Outspark doesn't want believe this happened from Fiesta, however, not only one player has problem, alot of people have this problem.

By the way, after I reloged last night, I was in Elderin and lost buffs, scrolls, and EXP....that was sad....

Well, Fiesta takes up like 700k+ of memory while running already. What I did to play for now is go to msonfig (use Vista's search), go to the General tab and choose Selective Startup and deselect "Load startup items".

Then go to Services, select "Hide all Microsoft services" then disable all programs. Restart and your comp should do a clean boot. So far I haven't shutdown... but that may also be because I was just vending.

i am having the exact problem as iLoveless, it just closes, no errors no NOTHING, i have been having the problem since i loaded the game in june. I have uninstalled reinstalled. I uninstalled, updated drivers, done window updates, then reinstalled. The difference between myself and iLoveless is that i am running xp, so i really dont think her running vista is the difference. also i am not wireless i am hard wired. once in a while i will get the bin error and that is the only times it comes up in the event viewer, but in all my events it has only come up 3 times (except on september 10th it came up a lot for app hang i think that was cause of the patch though)

It makes no difference where i am or what i am doing, fiesta will just close. Sometimes it will close once then not open again, when that happens i have to restart and when i do come back into fiesta my video settings are back to 800x600 so i have to change that all back. I would love to get this fixed its very annoying when it does it when im out playing cause i wind up in town in the dead pile cause it doesnt disconnect me fast enough and i die.

thank you...

Windows XP -- SP3

NVIDIA GeForce 6100 -- driver version 6.14.11.7516 date 5/2/08

there was another board that was talking about this i put my info on too on the 19th im still looking to see if you replied on it.

i forgot to mention i also shut all other programs when launching fiesta, all my messangers, i stop the virus scan, i do leave avg running in the background for safety but that is all, i even shut quicktime lol

here is the other board on this too, no resolution though

mrscrybabygreene, try what I did with the clean boot (post #11)? It might help. I had no other programs open except AVG as well but still had the problem. But when you actually look at your running programs... you actually see that there is a lot of crap running as well even if you tell it not to. So try that and see what you get.

I have no real solution for this problem... what I have is probably temporary.

In terms of the 800x600... if you get a chance to log in set it to whatever resolution you like then log out asap. That'll save your settings for next time. Hopefully your game will stay up long enough to at least do that.

yea i did try your post 11, the verdict is still out, it worked for awhile, then i started to lag a lot on item pick up, which my husband did as well so that was a server issue not related to this problem, i relogged and neither of us can get back in, again thats a server thing cause he doesnt have this issue ever. So i will report back if it worked or not. i have all avgs off except the avg watchdog. Also as far as the resolution problem, i always change it back its just sometimes when fiesta shuts and wont open thats when it changes my resolution, i would say it happens 1 out of 25 times the game randomly closes on me. thank you kindly though, is post 11 trial working for you so far?

mrscrybabygreene

Yea it just closed yet again with everything shut off

iLoveless
09-26-2008, 10:17 PM
Yup, the clean boot is working for me so far.

I really don't know what's up with this problem. I wish I knew how to fix it. Uhm... let's see there was another thing I did. I'm on Vista so if you're on XP I won't know exactly how to get there but here it is:

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System

Advanced System Settings (on the left hand side)

Advanced tab

Under "Virtual memory" click on the "Change..." button

Select "Custom size"

It really depends on how much space you have. There's a Recommended setting... and you might not want to put all of that in. Try 2000 MB on both boxes first... then try 3000 MB which is what I have put in.

**Optional** Visual Effects > Adjust for best performance

hmm i think maybe that is only vista, i am running xp? and the game just closed on me again, i have nothing running at all now except avg watchdog and the game

iLoveless
09-27-2008, 01:24 AM
Oh, there is a way to do that for XP as well. Let me go find it.

EDIT: Here it is...

In Windows XP

1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

I will try that now, this is the 6 or 7th time today it has shut, at 18,088 xp per time this is getting expensive :( i hope that works

my memory initial size is 1344 and max is 2688 my computer is not as new as yours apparently lol. anyhow im setting them both to 2000 we will see how that works thanks again!!

iLoveless
09-27-2008, 03:29 AM
Hopefully it'll work out? I had mine set to about 2000 and had the problem too so... I don't know. If it still doesn't fix then we'd have to wait for Outspark or OnsOn to release Fiesta that isn't such a memory killer or you may even opt to getting more memory in your computer.

So far so good, it appears the last idea you had may have worked, i went out for about 2 more hours of battle and didnt close, i will see tonight when traffic is high again for sure, but thank you!! ill post either way tonight to let everyone know if this worked

This happend to me to, i just start up the game BlackShot and go to create new character. When i click it the screen wil go black and white switching and it will stat white. I downloaded the game from Outspark.com but i think its some kind of virus

iLoveless
10-03-2008, 06:48 PM
If you think it's a virus run a virus scan. This is also Fiesta related troubleshooting section so... you'll probably get more help at the BlackShot section. I've already posted my way of fixing it up so you could try that.

well that worked for about 2 days, but when i got back to actually fighting mobs and really working to level again it started all over again, its quite frustrating. Im wondering if its some compatibility issue, i have updated all my drivers, but it mainly happens when there is a lot going on (aoe, buffing, vampire bats with there flapping wings lol) i dunno stuff like that, and also when it closes most of the time the sound stays on and my computer remains usless, locked, for a min before a can do anything at all... anyone else have any ideas?

So if I understand what you are saying here, everyone having a problem must start their *own individual and distinct* thread rather than pitching in an existing thread matching their issue, just in case a fix works for one of them but not the others?

Interesting... Will have a *lot* of similarly-named threads soon...
and a lot of duplicate works for the helping hands as well, repeating the same advices in multiple threads...

Talk about going off-topic. It doesn't take a lot to read through anyway... and probably was unnecessary to ask what this thread is about as it really doesn't contribute to solving anything. So, if anything post here if you have the same problem and/or have a solution.

-----

Anyway, back on topic. I solved mine through the methods I posted in this thread. If trying that doesn't work I really don't know what the problem is. I've looked through several gaming forums with people having similar problems of their game shutting down. Prior to my method of clear booting I had a problem of an over-heated laptop due to dust build up.

In most cases opening up your laptop is not a good thing. So turn off your computer and get a vacuum cleaner, find your fan and clean it. Getting yourself an air duster may help too. If the opening is big enough you may be able to get a Q-tip and loosen up the dust as well.

<Removed>

loveless, i will clean up the inside of my desktop and see if that does work, with the game freezing and shutting like it is i think its probably gonna be related to the prosessor or the video card, so it is quite possible it could be very dirty in there, i havent opened it in a year, and i have moved during that time

iLoveless
10-11-2008, 03:07 AM
If you're using a desktop I think you can open it up but just be careful when you do. Also when using a vacuum cleaner so you don't accidentally suck up something you need. ^^; Might be a good idea to look online about how to clean dusty fans and what not for what you have. I know that a lot of dust can build up in a year... this laptop I'm using was less than a year old with horrific dust build-up. .___. Best of luck.

Alright guys, let's stay on topic and let's be nice to each other. Okay? There is no need to post Off-Topic comments, derail the thread and make it harder for people who need help on this issue to read this. I've already removed some of the comments made here, so please don't make me come back and remove more. That may lead to some serious consequences.

Thank you.

Oh, and iLoveless and mrscrybabygreene, how about using one of those Air Duster cans? They work very well for getting into small and sensitive areas without damaging anything. And they are relatively cheap. They are great for cleaning numerous parts of a computer. Probably would be much safer than a Q-Tip and a Vacuum.

iLoveless
10-11-2008, 11:28 AM
Thanks Shadowic. And I did use the air duster can and it worked really nicely but I think you do need to use some sort of Qtip like thing to loosen dust... especially if it hasn't been cleaned for awhile.
