refining question: def point increase

I had a question about refining and was wondering if anyone was able to answer it.

Recently I bought a +8 level 50 armor piece (nice), and looked at its def increase for the refining level and got to wondering: is the def increase for an armor based on the original def of the item, or the item's level?

EX: if you were to refine all your 3x armor to +9, what would have the greatest def increase in terms of total points? Would it be the 30 chest armor, as the chest armor always has the highest starting defense? Or will it be the 38 armor (being the higher level armor allows it to gain a greater amount of def -again, I ask for total, not percentage)?

I ask because I do not often buy enhanced armors and was wondering which I should look for if I want to buy enhanced for greatest def increase.While I have seen people selling refined armors on forum auctions, they don't usually say how much the def increase is

I believe the items have a set def rate.

For example, Im sure t1 items probablly.. I dont know.. have amax of 69 points, lets say. Well I would think ALL t1 items would have a max of 69 points. It makes sense, if you think about t3 items and high lvl people. They need more than just a little 69 def bonus, so maybe the t3 bonus for +9 is more like.. 189 or something.

Dunno, Id have to check my mage (wearing t2 shirt +9), my cleric (has a +9 boots), and my fighter (has full +9 t1 gear) -- and compare em.

Personally, Im more interested in the def increase PER ENHANCEMENT.
Like how much it is for +1, +2+3+4.. so on and so forth. Which gap betwen them adds the most, which is generally "more profitable" in terms of money, chances, and def increase.

It's based on both the defence of the item and the item level.

Low level items gives less +def from enhancement than high level items, this is obvious as it is.

Difference base defence gives difference +def. For example a Fighter armor would give alot more +def than a Mage armor of the same level.

From +1 to +6 the incease in def/dmg is not alot. From +7 to +9 the difference is huge.

So for the example given of the lv 30 armor and the levl 38 armor, the 38 would get a higher % increase , and the 30 armor would have a lower percentage increase, but a higher total point increase?

Item with high base defence will always have a high bonus from enhancement.

In your case, the level 30 armor has less base defence than the level 38 pants, so the + bonus will be lower.

Yeah all of my 1X and 2X mage armor is (self) enhanced to +6 and everything accept the shirt only has like +6 DEF (not bad for being squishy) and maybe +12 on my shirt.

So all armor above the 30 shirt will get a greater defense increase? Even the hat and shoes?
That seems a bit weird to me...I can understand the pant -pants and shirt give the majority of defense points...but for a +9 set of shoes to give more than a +9 shirt seems odd to me

The +def increase from enhancing is done mathematically based on the base def.

Say for instance you have a chest plate with 100 base def. The +9 would be (hypothetically) 100(+79).

I don't know if anyone has figured out the equation to the increase, but it doesn't change as the level of the armor increased, the formula is always the same. It just happens to be that the higher level the armor, the more def.

HOWEVER, these principles always hold true
Chest armor will always be the highest Def until the next 0 chest. (Level 30 chest will be better than the 34 boots, 36 helm except the 38 pants, but will NOT be higher than the level 40 chest armor.)

And just for a shot in the dark, the defense increase is something like
Base def raised to the power of enchant number plus .5 divided by 10.

Or something with 100 base def would be: 100^([x+.5]/10)

The 38 Pants have more base defense than the 30 Chest... (this holds true for all classes) so they would actually gain a higher bonus based on what you said. Probably just a simple mistake by not checking - just thought I'd point that out for clarification.

I keep getting conflicting data, some people have +9 equips that the defense bonus doesn't go above the base. (Like 100 (+99) But some people have it going above (100 (+140) So I'm confused!

It might be based on the level of the equip, but I'm not sure. The equip I used as my reference was some post in the shop forums. The guy had an armor with 110 base and +87 from enhance and it was +9.

I will rework my numbers, stand by.

Anyone have a pictures of an equip that was +8 then +9? Or does anyone remember what the defense bonus was for +8?

I had lv28 Fighter Pants which I documented the enhancements last night.

+8 was Def: 27(+30)
+9 was Def: 27(+41)
