and how will that work? or even HP points.. You die.. you can still shout.... and they'd respawn in the same town anyhow after 2 min. SO how would thbis stop them? They're disposabel characters anyhow.. one gets banned..they make another.

Outspark are aware of the spammers issue and they're working on it (according to GMs).
I wonder if they're working on XP bots also, I saw like 4 today in Forest of Mist, at ratmens area.

maybe make a "shout scroll" attainable at lvl 10 for X amount of Premium Shop gold with x amount of uses, but then again tht would kinda kill my World DJ quest X(

That would be completely unfair, what about the people who are asking questions and the ones who want to help them? The spammers aren't doing anything that they would need sp for, but what about the people fighting who just want to help or know something? Personally I think they should make it so you can't write a message for at least 3 seconds after you write (only for shout though) but it would take some work and it doesn't bother me that much because I talk in whisper or party.

That is actually a genious idea if you ask me. Everytime a person says something they should lose ONE SP point. Since the spammers are bots, they shouldn't be able to rest in a house or use an SP potion unless they re-write their bot program to do so.

They log in.... go in a house..start their macro bot... keep gaining Sp.... So how would this work?

Well...they should make it to where you cannot type while you are in a house.

Not 1 SP point. that would be ultimately unfair. Mages get to shout more than other classes? nope. It should be a %tage

The point is to keep bots from spamming. No matter what class you are 1 point is nothing. Also, who says mages have the most SP? Draining 1 SP for a shout would be an ideal way to keep spam bots from doing anything as long as shouting while in a house is disabled. (which they should do IMO).

Why not just make it so only like lvl 5+ can shout? Lvl 5 is easy to get to, but getting banned and having to re-level a character would slow them down a ton.

why not simply filter "www.example.com"

i think a mute button would fix this - then they shout to only themselves.
just my 2 cents

I'd rather just have an ignore feature. No matter what the mods do the spammers will work around it. I'd rather just not have to listen to them. Maybe throw in a report feature too; although all they'd have to do is make a new character and problem solved. it'd at least slow them down a little. How are we supposed to get to know other players and interact with each other if we can't just talk.

There is a report feature.

Just mute. A lvl requirement for shouting would be ok too.

Rewrite Fiesta so it read directly keys inputs from the keyboard buffer, instead of using windows API. Bots can't type, it is well known.

Ignore feature is abusable. Not too hard to get around it.

Why not along with banning the gold spammers, ban those that buy from them as well? It's obvious that the reason they're doing so, is that there are people that do buy from them, making their market profitable (ex. look at their feedback page, and you'll see all those comments from fiesta players asking them for help on how to "claim" their silver). Besides, we all know that if GM's banned one 10 more take it's place.
Ban those that buy the silvers from them, true it's gonna take lotsa work, but i doubt anyone who spent say $50 to buy silver will want their characters banned. Yes yes there are loopholes, but there are logs that record paper trail like that. If there isn't any market for gold, as people would be too afraid to buy from them, it should theoretically lessen the number of gold spammers in game shouldn't it? Without a market of players buying in game gold, spammer central will die.
The other option would be for Outspark to legitly sell gold on their website. I know of mmo's that sell in-game currency on their games, and I don't see the gold spammers in them (hackers yes, but what game doesn't have those?). The only downside to this are the people with the cash to spare to buy said currency causing inflation etc. etc., but then even on games w/o in game cash the market is run by those that can afford to regularly use the item shop (what do u expect it's an f2p game -.-).

Problem with ignore features is how many names will you be allowed to buffer?
Can you save 1000 names? Because I guarantee you will be using ignore A LOT! Botters dont make one toon log it in and hit play... They make dozens upon dozens... so when one goes away another is ready. SWG is a great example of how ignore dont work for spammers. Every day a newly created bot is spamming the same info some other named bot was spamming the day before. The only hope is a multi-answer...
1> Limit # of shouts allowed per Hour(with warning of how many we have left). After limit is up account is suspended for X amount of time.
2> Implement something that remembers who said what how many times and how often and boot/ban recognizable spam. This way even if they have 20 different messages it will get recognized after its repeated and on the, say, third repeat the characters account is recognized and banned. Can even go as far as IP banning...
3> Ignore - obviously
4> EQ2 actually implemented something that recognizes all forms of typing out web addresses and marks it as spam before its sent. Was a glorious day when this came out! When you cant type your flavor-of-the-month web address to sell your goods spambots become history.
Many solutions and to solve spam bots I think more then one MUST be used... Im sure there are many more ideas but spending SP is just plain dumb as is not able to shout while in your house. What if you are a major seller (like me) and like to advertise as things dwindle down telling people how many items remain or how much time until shop closes etc... couple that with the fact im a mage and now I MUST house before going anywhere if I plan on talking throughout the entire zone. Also sometimes people ask for help in shout and thats how you usually reply. Its just not a good idea IMO :p
