to tell ya the truth, it depends on wat ur character build is... if ur tank then u should go with sword/sheild, if ur damage dealer then u should go with either of the 2h, personally id perfer 2h sword of any becuz u hit fast with decent dmg, axe is okay too but its a lil bit slower

I've compared 1h+shield to 2h Axe and Sword
and i prefer having my Axe anyday
but they have they're weakness and good points.
i don't like 1h sword and shield because the damage is WEAK really weak..
but defence is alot higher atleast by 20-30def
2h weapons strong atk slower atk speed and less defence
axe has the strongest atk and the slowest atk speed
but once the opponent gets stunned it's gg for them.
along with crit dmg its over.

I didn't vote, but personally I want to eventually make Kaylee have all three and be able to use all three at any point for the different circumstances that come up. Like people said, the one hand sword and shield is good for tanking (and I LOVE tanking :P). But I think I'm most likely to go for the axe most of the time - they're shiny!

If you do the math (when comparing blacksmith items of the same level) the axe has the highest dps, crit rate, miss rate, and top end damage. Special attacks, such as bone slicer and fatal slash, do more damage with the slower weapons because of the higher base damage of the weapon.

I don't know about green 2H swords with more crit or damage, but i'm assuming there are similar axes with appropriately comparable stats.

Imo, if you want to be a damage dealer, use an axe and have a lot of +aim scrolls. Otherwise be a tank.

In addition, attack speed can somewhat be neutralized because there is 0 delay between skill usages, so for the first several blows of combat (and after skill CDs), axe and 2HS can functionally have the same attack speed.

So to me, it looks like 2HS is the worst of both worlds. There is no shield, and the damage is hands down lower than that of the axe. The upswing of it is that the 2HS looks the coolest.

So Tanks, go sword/shield. That can't be disputed. But for DPS, axe is the clear choice. Fortunately, 2HS users, you look a lot nicer.

The math craft only mention weapon damge but not include the str gained. If you were a str fighter, then you would want your strenght to be use more freq meaning a faster waepon is a better choice. Of course at lvl 20 the str u have is insignificant, however at a higher lvl you would want to utilise your strenght to output more damage per second.

Therefore a 2h is better and way cooler than the axe, althought in the end 1h+ a shield beat all becuase it can block. Only noob fighter perfer a dps over tanker build.

Hrm, no one mentioned that my weapon damages were wrong. Those are taken from the Japanese version, however the English version has different damages. Anyway, i'm still trying to make sense of it all. I know some out there hate reducing a game to mathematics, but some of us find fun in optimizing so bear with me :D

I ran the calcs again, trying to take into account strength as well in a very exaggerated fashion:At Level 36:
138 Base Str, which is straight from my level 36 warrior.

IF we assume this is a full STR warrior (not a smart move, but for the sake of calcs): +36 Str = 174 Str * 1.2dmg = 208.8


Bri. Sword 45-78 (61.5 avg) + 208.8STR = 270.3/1.1sec = 245.7 DPS
Crusader 108-154 (131 avg) + 208.8STR = 339.8/1.3sec = 261.4 DPS
Hide Axe 170-235 (202.5 avg) + 208.8 STR = 411.3/1.5sec = 274.2 DPS

The AIM disparity is still about 10-15, which is not big. I disregarded the crits, as i figured the 1% difference in base makes only a small change, making the axe look a tiny bit better and 1HS a bit worse. These numbers should generally hold true for the 30s range of levels.

Denns has a point: these numbers look much, much closer. With some reasonable damage buffs (vitality, + STR items), its possible for 2HS to outdamage the Axe in the 3x level range, though i would say its not common (keep in mind that fighters are rarely full STR). At 4x, if the ratios stay the same for damage, the 2HS will begin to overtake the axe in terms of raw swinging DPS.

However, there are several things to consider: Skills have 0 lagtime. Which means in terms of PvP, where most of the attacks are a burst of skills, Axes hold a much greater advantage. In addition, SPR warrior builds will better utilize the axe due to the higher base damage used in the critical multiplier. From this, i can try to draw several conclusions:

- the Sword/Shield fighter is the better tanker hands down, this discussion is mostly between 2HS vs. Axe. Note, though, that the power hit is slightly more powerful than Slice and Dice.
- the Axe seems to dish out more damage in the 20-40 range of levels.
- the 2HS will do more damage over time 40+ due to quicker attack speed, and increased influence of Str.
- Str builds favor faster attack speeds, because it diminishes the impact of a weapon's base damage.
- Axes are capable of dealing out far more damage in a short burst of time vs. the 2HS, due to the usage of skill bursts.


So my recommendations:
- If you want to primarily function as a tank, use a shield. Period.
- For a typical 1:1 STR:END fighter, switching to a 2HS in the 30s or 40s will deal out more damage.
- For a 1:1 END:SPR fighter, the axe will be better through the 30s and 40s due to less STR influence and greater crit utilization.
- For PvP, axes will be better period. Damage over time is less significant compared to how much damage you can deal in a very condensed amount of time.


These findings actually sort of change my mind on how to work things when i hit the 40 range. I may heavily consider changing to a 2HS, holding an axe for PvP.
Something important to keep in mind, though, is that this game only loosely holds you to one type of weapon. Masteries in themselves are actually relatively weak in effect, and you should feel free to switch weapons to suit your condition. I believe that even every DPS fighter should pack a sword/shield of the appropriate level range to tank should the situation call for it. Likewise, it would seem wise now to pack a decent axe for PvP, and utilize a 2HS for grinding. This is moot, of course, if your 2HS is +6 and your axe is +1, or vice versa.

last I checked there is a difference between noob and just not being afraid of dying. Even if my characters died permanently, I would still have a str-fighter as one of my favs. There's a certain amount of rush in escaping a battle with just 1 or 2 life left.....and solo'ing mobs most peeps your level cringe in fear of. It's about as close as a game can get to free-falling or tube'ing.

I am 3X Clever fighter and i use 1h ZK sword(+17str+9end+3dex)(the sword also has+7% crit and 152 aim) and have solar eclipse shield(+13str+10end+4int) and I kill things fast and rarely have to use pots or stones i just rest ever couple monsters I kill baby werebears right now my normal hits crit for anywhere from 330-420, my slice and dice crits anywhere from 480-652<---highest ive ever gotten. So i have to say im pretty satisfied with my 1h with shield:)

I would say that you should carry two out of three weapons. Your one handed sword (+shield) for when you need to tank and if your tanking isn't needed (say a higher level war or another tank in party) you should carry one of the two handed weapons for damage. Having job flexibility is perhaps one of the greatest strengths.

After I finally became lvl20 and finished the class quest, I took the axe.
But somehow I'm not very happy with it :/. (It might be because my first two axes got destroyed while I was redifining.)

Axe is the only way to go if nobody wants to invite you into their parties. With the axe you can kill much faster thus making it more ideal for soloing.

I am not lvl 20 yet, but i do become lvl 20, i want a 2h sord, 1.) Because i am a damge dealer, and 2.) i like swords better than axes.

i voted 2h sword but that was before trying the AXE, this is the first RPG i like using an axe. THE AXE rocks, i don't care about an extra lil defence when with a strong AXE u punch A HELL OF A LOT MORE DAMAGE then with any other melee weapon in the game, and i couldn't care less if people who love to tank (or love having a tank with them cuz i said in other topics many people don't play fighters but play other class and of course they prefer to have a backup fighter that tanks like hell but can't kill for himself) will say FULL END shield fighters. I LOVE MY AXE and i'll always use it unless i have to use a shield and 1h sword for a really high damaging boss, but the AXE is by far the most fun to play with in this game(personal opinion)---and the opinion of someone who has played fighters in all RPG's he played (and i have played over 50 RPG's if not more)--- :D :p

The next day, when I got online, some luck finally came my way when a guy sold me King Marlone's Steel Sword for only 4s! I was so happy, so I'm staying with 2h swords, and at lvl 30, im making some money! xD

well i would say it all depends on ur game play u want to handle more mobs at 1 time or 1 large mob at one time.. and do u wanna benift ur party more later in the game each party is gunna need a tank healer and a dmg dealer more or less who do u wanna be in this sisutation .. 2h sword or axe well i think it would = out to be the same out come for dmg honistly becouse u all said swords are a slight faster then a axe but the axe deals more dmg wich in that case probly comes out to be the same .. now for a sheild and 1h well that's mainly a tank build .. i'm sure u could go with both as in 2h and 1h-sheild.. 2h for solo 1h-sheild for party .. just my opion u .. just something to think about

Now if you are going pure end, 1h + shield is the set up to use hands down, otherwise you're not utilizing that shield block rate increase.

If you want to be a damage dealer, Axe is easily the winner in early levels. when spamming skills, the axe wins, no one can argue that. even for level 20 and 30, the axe has higher DPS than the 2h sword. once you get to level 40, however they are about even, then at level 50 the 2h sword out DPSs the axe. However i'd still suggest holding on to the axe.

a friend of mine has a level 59 char and he has both axe and 2h sword. he has them on hotkeys and switches to axe to spam all his skills, then switches back to sword to hack away while his skills cooldown. It's a pretty good combo if you ask me.

I've found, at my current build, that being a tank is pretty much my life. To the good...I have had some HUGE crits already. Lvl 17 using a +3 Broadsword with Rat (maxed) Mara Pirate, Mini Pinky licenses....My page tells me 88-122 damage range...I've seen several crits of late over 200. My largest that I've managed to catch so far is 224. For a low level, that looks pretty good to me...and that was in a KQ...not one of the License mobs.

Now I have a plain +4 broadsword at lvl 17 and we'll see how things go. My page now tells me I avg 96-130 w/ Str of 55 (+10)....My Defense is currently like 111. Working on Captain Mara Quest, so I may stick to the licensed sword till I finish her off.

Well i like 1-Handed because i get to hold a shield. Being defensive is my specialty :). I don't mind tanking for others, i mainly do it in other games :p.

Put a shield with Vit and you get a def up and blocking ins't so bad. With HP you can go just about anywhere and not die XD.

Use Axe if you are to be a super high dmg dealer and max out strength only.
Use 2h sword if you are going to be a dmg dealer/solo guy and max out str or half str/end
Use 1h sword w/ shield if you are going to be tank and max out end.
That's my opinion, other players, please don't flame like crazy to me~_~+ It happened before on other online game forums.

Ok heres a few suggestions
High End/Spr - 2h Axe
High Str/Spr - 1h Sword+Shield / 2Axe w/ Enchanted Armor and Weapon
High End/Str - 2h Sword (you'll hit faster than axe imo axe is only good if you got a high crit rate) or 1h Sword+Shield

I love axes for their damage and how they look. My current build is 25 Spr and Full Str and is working well for me. I just got to buy a few Def scrolls and junk to keep up Defense ,though I only use them when I have to tank. (Which I try not to do often as i'm a lazy tanker >:3 )
But over all you get used to the axes speed if you stick with it long enough. :D

IMO, I...dont care...really...

But if I have to say something, Id say if youre end, use sword shield, take advantage of the block rate you get with the end boosts.

If youre strength or spr, I would say axe or 2h, mostly 2h. Higher and higher you get, you will see the aim from the axes get severely limited compared to the other two weapons. Whats the point of having a powerful weapon if you cant hit the enemy?

If youre a dex fighter *I kinda wanted to make one at the start* use an axe, so you can hit your enemies while not having to worry about missing.

and if youre an int fighter...well...I just cant help you there...

i never played fighter but i prefer 1 hand tank full end... simply cause they r best tank can tank more mob than other so i can aoe more mob at same time so get exp faster... + 1 hand tank full end best to tank bosses... too much 2 hand fighter :O

Ok... 2h for when you solo but shield when in group because their expecting you to hold aggro and take hits without a shield even full end half end some end...no matter what the shield helps more than you think and helps the cleric (if you have one) keep up on the heals seeing as you lose defense take hits harder without a shield.So ya.. 2h -two thumps up- for solo shield -two thumbs up- for group.

Im a tank build... Full END, I so I use the 1h shield combo. Besides, when it's 2 equipments thats twice the gamble on the upgrade!! (Loves to gamble) ^^

i vote axe because it may be slower than all weapons,but its good if u want to be a damage dealer.It really depends on your build...if your a tank,its common sense for a SwordnShield because of the def. you get.If You rather solo,its either 2H Sword/Axe.

I think a 2h sword would be the best because u can attack more and do more damage and I thingk u could move a little faster as well because u aren't being weighted down by a shield or axe, no offense to axe wielders.

Serioulsy, i dont know why people still insist the 2-hand sword can do more dammage than an axe. and to superfreak521, your moving speed is not affected by your weapon, just your attack speed.
Either go with 1-hand + shield if you want a lot of def, or axe if you just plain want to **** things up :p

well i always use both 1 handed and axe because when ur tanking u need defence so use the shield and 1 hand and if ur not and wanna be a damage dealer just use axe it does way more dmg then 1h and 2 hand:D:cool:;)

Certain weapons are suited for certain builds. For an example:

Pure END fighters are more likely to choose 1H swords because they can wear a shield. END bonus stat gives additional block rate, giving them an advantage. The aim on 1H swords are also higher giving them an advantage of tanking mobs and using the skill DEVASTATE without missing, keeping the party alive.

Pure STR fighters are more likely to either go with a 2H sword or an axe.

Axe has a lot of damage, slower and is inaccurate. 2H Sword has a normal speed, normal damage, and normal accuracy.

Of course, you could be a pure END wanting to use an axe or pure STR wanting to use a 1H, it's just less efficient.

I choose axe because it has the most power and with a pure STR and aim scroll and critical rate it's hard to beat. Take it from me i killed a level 33 cleric in a war and i was only level 26. with it upgraded it can deal over 200 damage in wars or in moonlight tomb...

On my fighter, I went with an Axe because the Axe hits the hardest and has a high critical rate. When you add the weapons critical, any other equipment, and your natural stats, This can get your critical % up to 10% which is once every ten hits. Then of course there's the Power Hit and Vitality abilities that can get REALLY high if you enhance it and get a critical. (Which is what I did :p )

Basicly, I'm saying that the Axe kills enemies faster getting you experience faster, leveling you up faster, making you stonger faster, getting you to your next weapon faster, making you stronger again, getting you experience faster, yada, yada, yada...

1) axes are known to have better attack power but miss alot more than sword
if you care more about your health then get 1sword and a shield but i like attack power better:D

it all depends on your preferences & stat distributions.

1h/shield = tanker (full end usually)
2hSword = tab + attack DD (full str usually)
2hAxe = skill spam DD (hybrid str/spr or full spr usually)

so just depends on what you want ur char to do... personally i like keeping 2 of the types depending on situations. i use axe for solo play (i killed mara by myself @ lvl 21 woot!!!!) or 1h/shield for KQ tankings of bosses (i use 2h Axe to kill the lil mobs faster hehehehe)

overall im pleased with what i made but my stat distrib is mostly spr (havent decided yet might have to wait until 50s and find a GODly CG axe to make me make up my mind). hopefully this helps someone.

I will think 1h sword will be suitable for you if you wish to be a tank. With the sheild you are holing you can minimum the hit rate from monsters and protect yourself. I was using 2h sword. But then after a Guild War weeks ago, i realize the 1h sword is more reliable to a fighter. My opponent was a 1h sword user and she blocked many of my attacks. I nearly die in her hand because she can block and i can't. ( Even though my HP is alot more higher than her ) Well is your choice to choose which sword to use. This is only my opinion.

id choose the 1hd swd, as they usually look like they would be quicker. havent been on for ages and only have a lvl19 fighter and 2 others that arent fighters... small swords are better for speed and the shield is good for blocking... the 2hd swds are good also but its my personal preference really...

2H Sword i think they do balanced damage and theyr almost fast as a 1HS Sword so ur not that slow on attacking Axes Deal much more damage but theyr slow and the delay in battles its very important as long u can upgrade a 2HS to +6 or +7 its very usefull as a Axe.W im Lv 27 Fighter i wear 2HS
and im thinking to change to Axe at some more Lvs maybe at Lv 30 ( Cuz i got a Axe +7 :D (Lv 30 )
