To bump a post means to reply to it so that it jumps back to the top of the active topics list. It could be as simple as posting "Bump" or posting a full reply. It's usually used for pushing up a thread in order to get more attention, but at times it could be a problem when irrelevant, old threads or problematic threads are bumped.

No it does not make you look like an idiot.

Bump is used to keep your thread in the spotlight so others can see your thread. It keeps it from getting lost in the shuffle so to speak

Bump makes you look like an idiot, trying to get a higher post count.

I've also heard it means something like bring up my post or something like that.
Pretty idiotic thing to do, just as well as posting a thread about asking what BUMPs are.

bumps are usually used in sell/buy/trade forums so u dont post 1000 threads about same thing...
