Hi,

I can't believe I actually have to make a post like this, but here I am. -.-

There is a ludicris rumor going around that The_Famous is a racist guild.
A former member which we had to ban due to misbehavior and refusal to follow the rules, has been going around telling people that she was banned because we're Racist...against Germans, often leaving out the last part.

So I'd just like to clear this up, because this is a dangerous rumor that has resulted in a member to be denied a party because they belong to a "racist guild".

The member was banned several times and let back in twice, The first ban was for starting drama, the 2nd ban was for insulting guildies, being rude and trying to start drama, and the final ban was for starting drama and flooding guild chat in German.

So for the record:

The_Famous guild, since it's begining, has been a multi-national guild.

It was started and lead by An American (me), a Britain (Kholai), a Malaysian (Lyric), an Italian (Leosirth), a Filipino (DeRagan), ? (AngelJane) and a German (Aceeca)

Since the begining of the guild, we have had members from all over the world, speaking a variety of languages and it was decided that since we all knew English, and the game is in English, that guild chats would be in English, so that all guild members could join in the conversation.

And this worked well for a year, until now.

We don't ban people for occationally speaking another language, but when someone constantly holds full conversations in another language, after being asked to speak so the whole guild can understand, that is when the ban comes in, and since our creation, we've only had to ban one person for this, the person in question.

If you want to speak to another member who speaks your first language, that's what whisper is for. Doing it in guild chat alienates the rest of the guild.

To anyone who considers this "Racist", then you clearly do not understand what Racist means. The game is in English, is the game "racist" for that?

Further more, as for the allegation that because we want guild chat to be in English, is "racist" against Germans... German is NOT a race, it is a nationality. And to want the guild chat to be in a language everyone in the guild understands is not racist, its COMMON SENSE, it's hardly a "guild" chat if only a couple people understand the conversations.

I find this allegation that we're "racist" or "discriminate" against Germans, or any nationality to not only be FALSE but to be extremely hurtful and dangerous.

FFS my Grandfather is German, and our guild has in our history and at present many people from Germany or from German decent.

So I ask you, my fellow Apolinians, if you hear this rumour going around to please discredit it.

Some of you may not get along with all people in my guild, The_Famous is a very large guild, and sometimes people have disagreements. But on the whole I like to think that we're a very friendly group of people, there are over 130 of us currently all together including our full Academy.

That's over 130 people suffering due to the dangerous lies of one Drama queen. And this slander is wrong.

So I ask, please for the sake of the innocent 130+ people wrongly being labeled, regardless for your feelings for any one individual member, help stop this rumor.

I have to agree with all of that.
Keep that hate to yourself [name], what you're doing won't help you back in the famous, or even our trust. Stop fooling yourself, you know you were wrong at the first place, you said it, you even apologized, so WTH are you doing?
Don't involve other people into this, this is your problem, it's your fault, you did a thing that made us ban you. Not only once, but multiple assaults and misbehaving.

Since you joined the guild, if we were that racist or w/e you call that,
we shouldn't have worried about you, or even let you in the guild.
When you were sick, lots of people from the guild was there to comfort you.

Wel i am totaly 100% on your side Maiya! If Master decide it will be only (english ) in guild chat then the members should respect it and follow the ruel not spamming the guild chat like you say on a diff langugage! I rather say that this person is ignoring what the GM are saying ( Guild Master) You are right at every sentence! racist? Absolutly NOT! And the one who started to say The_Famous is a racist guild should apologise as much as he/she can! Becouse its not nice to start false RUMORS! I must say in support of this that when you have a guild as large as ours it is a tough task to manage the affairs and keep everything running smoothly. I think, however, that we have been doing a pretty good job. The unfortunate thing is that we have some former members who had to either be banned for their destructive behaviour or left for their own selfish reasons. The reality is that in a guild of 90+ memebers and a full academy, you would not be able to please everyone but all you can do is try your best to ensure that everyone has a good experience.:cool:

I've debated on how to reply to this post.. to maybe help 'some people' understand what The_Famous is going through... Most of us who are proud members of The_Famous are people who enjoy the game for the game itself. We all love challenges.. we all love our guildies.. and most of all.. we all try our best to help others out as much as we possibly can. We showed this ex-guildie nothing but support.. and got it thrown right back in our faces. We've been accused of being not only racist... but mean. I just don't understand it. As many times as I saw in guild chat how this person complained over and over about not being able to level.. and as many times as I saw help being offered.. yet ignored.. English language is our common ground. Our beginning at building something great. If we can't communicate with each other, then what do we have? Nothing. How is it fair to call us racist when we did nothing wrong? All we asked is that you speak to all of us in a common language that is familiar to all.. and yet we're the mean ones? We're the racists? It has gotten really frustrating .. almost to the point of pure out harrassment.. where every single day we have to see in chat.. or be whispered... 'Oh I heard you were in a racist guild.' Not a day goes by since this person was banned.. where most of us haven't had to stop questing or stop helping a guildie... shroom.. and answer whispers from people who have heard these rumors and are questioning it. Of course we're gonna take up for our guild! It's our family. No matter what nationality we all are... we're still a family. The only thing I have left to say is this......

God... think before you talk! If you dont have any to say dont say anything at all! God again... just think before you open ur mouth! it can be a kid on 8 year or less who can english! So please this game isnt just for ppl at age 13-30 for an example! kids at 5 can play this game and understand what ppl are saying!

And you know what? This makes me want to join The_Famous.

Honestly, I think you handled the situation well, but this drama queen needs to stop. And actually, I think you posting that here helps too. Otherwise I would have heard it in game in passing, and thought bad of the Famous. Sure, we all kno its hear-say, and rumor, but it stick in thr brain.

You didnt post this all ranting and raving, youre posting it quite logically, in complete sentences, etc, etc.

Oh and btw, this is just as bad as me being called racist in a kq. =.= My pt was spamming pt chat with spanish, two players in particular. I couldnt take it, so I quit the pt and joined another one (which had 1 spanish speaker). Now. I SPEAK. SPANISH. I can understand it, and I can speak it if I have to. But that doesnt mean I wanna see a chat spammed with it, when my first language is english. You wanna take offense that I dont wanna see anther language spammed? Well, I take offense that you wont speak english so everyone can understand.
But anyway, the 1 dude in the new pt said that he spoke spanish, but didnt because the game is in english, and most people in the game speak english, so therefore: he only spoke english in the game.

Oddly enough, it ended with him calling me racist for saying the game is in english, and if someone doesnt speak or understand english, then it makes me wonder how they downloaded the game (since its in english!). I had to quit the pt cus he began spamming pt chat with it.

Racist = race. Spanish = a language, a nationality.

Well, I hope that was a joke, hahaha~

Anyway, this is not about which languages can be spoken in the game, because any language can be spoken there, they can`t ban languages (Sadly, they can`t ban L33tsp33k also...). This is about having a criteria and speak non-english languages on a private chat with other people who speak that. I`m from Argentina, Spanish is my mother tongue and, as you can see, I can also speak english. I speak spanish with some players from here that don`t fully understand english, and I do it in general chat, shout to reply to shouts, and obviously whisper.

As Riko already said, I think the approuch The_Famous took towards this situation, is great, safe, and effective (If only everyone would read the forums *Sigh*) and me and the Butterflies support them totally!

However, some comments went on here saying people "Shouldn`t" speak other languages than english in the game, because the game`s written in english. Portuguese and Spanish were mentioned, lemme do a little quoting, because this subject is very very interesting...

This applies only to Guild Chat and Party Chat, communitary chats in which you have to bear in mind all the others involved in it that would feel left out if you spoke in a language they don`t understand, which is the issue that caused this thread to be here in the first place. General chat, and Shout chat are free to be used in any language around (And so are Guild and Party if everyone gets you) I sometimes reply to people who need help in spanish and ask things in shout (Because people are free to play the game even if they don`t speak english, mind you) and when I do so, people go "English please -_-" and well, even though my shout wasn`t obviously directed to them, it IS shout and everybody can see it, so I translate for them, what was I helping the guy with, to be received with an "And why should I care about that?" Whoa, sorry dude, I forgot you own shout chat *Shrugs*

One of the reasons I play this game, is because I love english. I really like the language and I`ve studied it since I started studying anything in my life, I love to talk to and speak with native speakers (And non-native speakers!) and the game`s actually a good place to do it, if you find the appropriate people of course.

Okay if you didn`t want to be rude, but the fact that the game is written in english doesn`t mean anything at all. People who prefer to speak other languages with people who understand them are free to do so (Again, Guild Chat and Party chat are exceptions, because its implied that others have to understand) and Outspark doesn`t put rules regarding language exclusiveness because not only it wouldn`t help them, but they simply can`t. No other game does, because of freedom of expression. The game is a country, and they cannot ban languages even if it`s not the country`s official language. And, trust me, you don`t really need to understand english to be able to play the game, at all. If you have an english speaking friend who plays, great, if you don`t, you`ll be able to start and find people who speak your language to hang out with or to get help from. If you need to do a quest, you`ll understand the monsters you want to kill, etc. People figure things out when they want to do something.

Yup, we ALL agree on the fact that racism has nothing to do with the matter at hand. That`s as easy as that.

I felt the need to express my views on the language matter because I just think people need to be a bit more open with that subject when talking about the game as a whole, and not about smaller communities such as guilds on the game, or even parties, which are smaller temporary communities. I also recognise this is not related to the issue that opened the thread, but to the replies that followed it.

And if no one else can understand it, its basically spam. Thats the definition of spam: crud made to fill up / "SPAM" the area. And if theyre only talking to one person, they can take it to whisper. If multiple people, then either get in a pt and do it in pt chat, or make a guild and do it in guild chat

And let me repeat that the game is written in english. Yes, you can speak any other language, but its common sense that if the game is written in english, then it is meant to be for people who speak english (as well as other languages). Honestly, if you want a german fiesta, go play Gamingo's. If you want a Korean fiesta, go play OnsOnSoft's.

Yes yes people can speak other languages, but unless the game has diff language buttons lik e"CLICK HERE TO SEE THE GAME IN SPANISH!", then I PREFER, to NOT, see public chat spammed up with languages I dont understand.

Yet again, if you cant say something so that everyone can understand, then either dont say it at all, or take it to whisper. There is no point in you saying things in public to one person if only that one person can understand it. Thats what WHISPER is for.

And this is essentially the reason behind the whole 'English language' policy (or whatever you want to call it). Outspark are more than aware that many people from all sorts of nationalities play this game. But this specific version we play is the English version for the North American market. Other's play it as well, but that's what it is.

If someone got all upset with me about who-knows-what, and they started going off at me in Spanish or Korean, I wouldn't have a clue about it. Because English is my only language, it does open me up to possible abuse if another member decided to swear and be abusive to me in another language. Outspark are pretty relaxed with the language issue, they are not saying 'ONLY ENGLISH ALLOWED!' but because of this, people are able to abuse it.

When you talk in general (the white chat) you are indeed talking to everyone around you. In fact, I think its.. everyone within a 40m (thats 40 meters in the game folks) can hear you. They can hear you using "white" chat before they even see you, even if theyre looking in your direction.

SHOUT, the "yellow/orange" text, is for the ENTIRE MAP, regardless of distance.

Keep in mind some maps arent as big as others. I can stand in the middle of Eldy and hear loads of chats, but I can still hear almost the same chats if I go up towards Shutian. The range for the "white" chat is actually huge.

Stil, if youre talking to one person, take it to whisper. Dont say it in general where everyone else has to listen to your spam

Allrighty Riko, first of all, please be nicer, okay? Seriously, we`re not arguing, we`re talking. We`re not in the alley of a pub with knives on our hands, we`re inside the bar drinking something (Coke for me) and talking

I know the white chat is general and everyone else around me can see it, and I know the orange (ZOMG NARUTO FTW) chat is shout, and all the map can see it, thanks for pointing that out, but~

I`m not "Talking TO" everyone around me, even though everyone around me "CAN hear" me

I may use white chat to talk to the people around me, or to only one person, as I use my own voice when talking in the street, and I`m directing the words to only one person, the one in front of me. Sure, the other people around me can hear me, but they know I`m not talking to them and that they have nothing to do, so they ignore me, like people in the game who mind their own business. I won`t whisper someone who`s in front of me if I`m talking about trivial matters such as "Hey, how are you doing!" because:

1) I may be using whisper to talk to one or more people that are on different maps and don`t want my whisper window to be too crowded
2) I want to be heard if a friend of me is nearby and recognizes my name. The game`s a little world, and general chat is talking, white text is my voice
3) I may be talking to two different people who are not in my guild nor my party

And, Riko, if you think somone talking in general chat, just talking in general chat, is spamming... well, that`s not right. You`re honestly the first person that mentions someone talking in general chat as "Spamming your chat box"

In your opinion, what`s the white chat for?

Allrighty Riko, first of all, please be nicer, okay? Seriously, we`re not arguing, we`re talking. We`re not in the alley of a pub with knives on our hands, we`re inside the bar drinking something (Coke for me) and talking

I know the white chat is general and everyone else around me can see it, and I know the orange (ZOMG NARUTO FTW) chat is shout, and all the map can see it, thanks for pointing that out, but~

I`m not "Talking TO" everyone around me, even though everyone around me "CAN hear" me

I may use white chat to talk to the people around me, or to only one person, as I use my own voice when talking in the street, and I`m directing the words to only one person, the one in front of me. Sure, the other people around me can hear me, but they know I`m not talking to them and that they have nothing to do, so they ignore me, like people in the game who mind their own business. I won`t whisper someone who`s in front of me if I`m talking about trivial matters such as "Hey, how are you doing!" because:

1) I may be using whisper to talk to one or more people that are on different maps and don`t want my whisper window to be too crowded
2) I want to be heard if a friend of me is nearby and recognizes my name. The game`s a little world, and general chat is talking, white text is my voice
3) I may be talking to two different people who are not in my guild nor my party

And, Riko, if you think somone talking in general chat, just talking in general chat, is spamming... well, that`s not right. You`re honestly the first person that mentions someone talking in general chat as "Spamming your chat box"

In your opinion, what`s the white chat for?

:X Honestly my attention span failed me in the middle of your post. Right about where you listed things.

And I didnt say they are spamming just for talking in general chat, its talking in general chat, in a language only ONE person can understand. Doesnt matter if theyre talking to that ONE person, or not, they can do THAT in whisper. Whisper is 1 on 1 conversations. When they spean in general chat, they understand that they could be spamming.

Besides, they could also curse you in another language and try to get away with it :x
Heck just today I had to screenshot a person who was cursing and name calling my pt during kq. My pt didnt speak spanish, but I moderately understand it, and have access to a translator for words I dont know :x

Now to some peopel, this would be OMG IM BEING RCIST CUS I DONT WANT THEM SPEAKING SPANISH. But to me its a "Id liek them to speak where everyone can understand, or not at all".

Ill say it again "If you cant say it where everyone can understand, then dont say it at all, or take it to whisper" and you knwo what thats based off of? "If you cant say something nice, dont say it at all".

like there are many people that aren't native english speakers but they speak english (I read around 400 millions) so i guess everyone should know how to speak it o.o

I don't find that to be racist at all, you guys wanted everyone to understand, and she only wanted certain people to understand. That's alienation and you handled it correctly. I don't think you should've let this "Drama Queen" back in after the first kick but I'm a meanie. XD

I, like most people of fiesta, have a second language. Just because I do it doesn't mean I'm going to speak to people in that language. I use English. Why? Because everyone can understand it.
Like another poster said, "If you can't say it so that everyone can understands, then don't say it at all, or take it to whisper."
Spam is spam, if only a few people understands then its considered spam to me. How would you like it if the general and shouts suddenly poured over with languages you didn't understand?

This is a situation on Apoline`s server. Unless rumors about a certain guild on one server have a tendency to jump over to other severs, of course you haven`t heard about such rumors.
