if you use FireFox/Mozilla you can get add ons to prevent it such as AdBlock Plus and Redirect Remover hope that helps [click tools then add on then add 'em]

Google toolbar have also very good popup blocker.
But i also will recommended to use Firefox because he have very good security setup and usefull add ons:).
