View Full Version : About the installer, and the novice effort.

Hello,
I have built installers, and none of them have ever operated like this.

Critical critic on the installer.
To be honest an installer that exacts to my C/: when I clearly do not have my temp files in E/: is a novice installer effort.
I do not like my C/: written to without permissions. I do not like the installer at all. The factor that is literally explodes into 3.6 gigs or so.
(x2 temp files, one in the temp the other in my E/: temp (WHICH I HAD TO MANUALLY COPY, Which in turn goes back to my goddamned C/: ,WHY?)

This is a big problem with this game at this time, it makes it impossible for those of us who have small C/:'s and large E/F/G's to play.

You guys need to go back on the drawing board with this idea, I played for awhile during CB with my laptop fine, however on my pc it's simply not possible.
I am not removing vital programs nor am I going to take the time to place extremely important to be on C/: compilers/editors for a game. I am sure many feel this way as this is the most common gripe of this game.

If you guys are not wanting customers thats fine, RO is free2play now as well and I am sure the craving for a sprite 3d game can be fixed with that. It also does not have a bloated installer that caused vital memory leaks while extracting.

That is where you "Outspark" are at with this installer. I am not the only one who has had this issue and I won't be the last. It's truely a pity as I had hoped to be able to play on my superior system versus a dated laptop with only 1.5 gigs of ram.

The lack of permission on this or choice makes me wonder if malware is being installed, or advertware. Why else would you not give the options for extraction. I'll also be flagging this as a dangerous install amongst the community sites I visit as I do not trust auto-extractors (that do not let you define the file). This is the perfect way to install adware/malware.

You are losing a vast player base with this installer, this is the primary gripe of many at mmo community sites. And it is a huge security risk for we the users the allow you install without verification of directory. (Which fyi is what most installers do.)

I agree with you.
I thought that if I choose to install the game in the D: drive ALL files related should be going THERE. Not 2gb into my C: drive (which I don't have space for it).

Really a shame since I really like the game and have played for a while... Being forced not to play because of this, when I got ENOUGH space in my D: drive to play it with no problem. (Also have my temporary files set to D: )

It really is quite a shame, I remember loving SoS more than RO simply due to the sprites being so much better and the resolution looking so crisp and clean.

It's also highly annoying I have to take this game card back to target (this was my sad little weekend setup, login>play>Use the little 10 card for some minor things).

Blah, I've even tried to modify the installer to extract to E/:Temp but it seems like you guys used something entirely crappy as none of my editors can even read the code base.

Update:Edit plus works, since the devs seem rather apathetic to this (reading the back logs here on this forum) I'll go ahead and see if I can't edit the installer to extract, I'll post a guide on my mmorpg.com blog shortly.

I too have the same gripe with the install process. I really wanted to try this game but have no more space for it in C:, a good installer should always have the option on making you chooose where you want to put it. And as astropuyo says, a program that only autoinstalls on this specific folder does sound fishy, can't believe not many people here find that bothersome.

I would still love to try this game out, but i'll have to pass until they revise their installer.

*quite annoyed that after almost 12 hours of downloading, this happens*
