level 1-2 player wont attack

I started my second character, a Fighter, and only about 1/20 of my attempts at attacking anything worked. I tried using the auto-attack key and anything else i could fine. After level 3 he gradually got better and now at level 10 it works fine.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Were you by any chance at first trying to kill in Roumen with shift-Z on? Monsters won't disappear when killed with it on. You can't attack what's already dead.
