View Full Version : Vitality [2] Scam

In the last two weeks of playing and shopping in Elderine (on Teva) I've seen at least 4 different stores selling fighter Vitality [2] and trying to pass it off as the production scroll. I've whispered each one telling them that they could be reported for it, but it's probably an empty threat. I remember hearing from a guildy of mine that she once reported someone for selling this vit 2, and not having anything done about it.

So, that's why I'm making this public instead of taking it to a member of the staff. I want my fellow players to know that there are people scamming out there, and to be very weary of it. And it doesn't go to just Teva, but all servers. Even though these people are selling for only a few hundred silver, it's still a scam and people still suffer. I want to warn EVERYONE about it. :/

Scammers bah >.<
Also noticed shops that say "Buying lanterns for 5s"
And actually buy them for 5c.

LOL Plushii you always beat me on the forums o.o i was about to say that i had seen someone with the same thing, but the value was 20s/20c

By the way, the Vitality thing is old. I've seen people on forums reporting someone that was selling Vitality[4] SKILL as Vit 4 scroll...

That would be SIMPLE to solve. They should just change the name of the Skill or of the Scroll. And there you go, no more Vit scammers YAY

Also, once i seen someone with "Buy my pets please" and he was trying to sell Joker Kebling licenses for 25s each =P

Alright, I have reported such people before in the past, the difference between someone being punished or not depends on a few factors. *Raises my hand because I got scammed on Vit2*.
- Outspark basic policy is that there will be no regulations on the pricing is in game items between players, so they may basically sell it at whatever price they wish to.
- Scams become prevalent when the a player misrepresents an item for something else different ie the infamous Vitality 2 scroll scam. The main issue is how a player wishes to advertise the Vitality 2 fighter skill scrolls. If someone places the vendor message of "Vitality 2 scroll" rather than "Vitality 2 production scroll recipe" and sells the Vitality 2 fighter skill scroll, an player new to using alchemy skills themselves and is not a fighter would be a bit confused on the ambiguous description of the scroll and think they it is a valid production recipe. The seller is not punished because it did not specifically say it is a learning skill recipe but rather that he/she overpriced it, but Outspark does not interfere with in game pricing of items.
- Unscrupulous people do learn how to test the system and no longer put up the advertisement of "Vit 2 production recipe" while selling the fighter vit2 scrolls, so I learned the hard way is that the responsibility falls on the buyer in determining if an item is authentic or a cheap knockoff.

While you can not save everyone from being taken in from this scam, the things I have done before to make things a bit better where to send in the reports anyways, perhaps if a particular player was reported enough times some actions may be taken. Shout in the area items are sold and educate people if they can tell the difference between the real and fake production scrolls. Suggest visits to the forums to learn about the latest scams being reported.

I said I wasn't reporting anything, but merely educating people that the scam is out there. :/ That was my only intention, because I was so disgusted at seeing my 4th shop that day.

:/
:/

Read it.

But thank you Adrichiang. ^^ That was pretty helpful. I'll look for the titles and such, but I do think that Outspark staying out of the scam issue is bad on their part. A scam is a scam, whether it be real money or fake money... It makes our GM's seem more like pretty faces and event organizers than active parts of our game's authority.

This is why screenshots are so helpful.

If you can get a screenshot of someone falsely advertising one item for another in an obvious scam, send it to support.outspark.com or to a CL and we’ll forward it along for you.

People are punished for obvious scams. Some repeat offenders have been banned but it keeps happening, sadly. One thing to keep in mind is the fact the scrolls look slightly different and the production scroll will clearly say “teaches you the production skill” whereas the ability scroll reads differently.

I feel as though the old rule on this scam should be reinstated, and that prices over 1g should be considered a blatant attempt at scamming the community. The shop name rule worked for a while, but those that pay attention have easily found a way around it...

I guess one of the hardest thing for the Outspark staff is that they are very limited in what they can change in game. If they could change the name of the Vit skill, I'm sure they would (it's a ridiculous name for what it actually does).

While we might rant and rave about "oh come on, all you've gotta do is change the name/ability to sell skill scrolls/etc." it's not that easy. They have an Outspark constitution of sorts and they admin according to that.
