View Full Version : Request: Please Add a "Report PM" Function

The battle against the Phishers has officially begun. From now on, we'll be subjected to a constant stream of PMs from people who want to steal our account info. Let's face it: Fiesta Gold = Real Money to gold sellers. And stealing gold is an efficient way to get it. That's why botters steal accounts in the first place.
Will Outspark Staff be able to make the problem completely go away? Of course not. But a Report PM function (similar to the Report Post function that already exists) might be helpful to allow users to quickly report a phishing PM. And the easier it is to file the report, the more likely it is that people will pass on the information to staff. It might also be useful to edit the PM inbox to remind players that Outspark will NEVER request their account information. After all, they don't need it. ;)

I do think it would be a good idea to add a notice in the PM section reminding everyone of the consequences of buying gold and of the scams that are associated with it. However, in terms of reporting said PM, simply foward it on to a CL, GM, or CSR.

I would like to see this feature as well.
Though as with the Post Report button we already have, it does not always get immediate attention. It really just sends a copy of the post to the CSR's to look at, whenever they get the chance. So it's best to also try to get the attention of a CL/CM/CSR when available as well as reporting.
Great idea still though ^^

Celtic - CSRs can't receive PMs (or Joker can't, anyway) and the CSRs are the appropriate people to report the problem to. As such, to report a PM to the proper staff member, you must take a screenshot of the PM, upload that screenshot, and e-mail the screenshot to support@outspark.com.
It seems that it'd be much faster to just click "report PM" and type "phishing" in the "reason for reporting" box. And the easier something is, the more likely people are to do it.
Shadow - Perhaps they could run a small script that would flag certain words (phish, scam, hack) and pull those reports to the front? But yeah, it makes sense that it will always be best to let someone know personally if you have the chance.

i always block gold sellers who whisper me, because even if you get their account banned they will make a new one anyway, just block and enjoy fiesta

He's not talking about in-game whisper.
He's referring to the Private Messaging system here on the forums.

Honestly, I'm less concerned about gold sellers and more concerned about phishers. Phishing is fraudulently attempting to acquire information (like user names and passwords) through trickery. The phisher will attempt to make their e-mail (or PM) look official. The end goal is to steal account information.
This is phishing:

If you'd never seen a phishing scam before, there's no reason to feel stupid for falling for it. They don't trick people successfully by being unconvincing. :/

I wouldn't like this, what if your talking to someone and he/she messed the quotes on a way that it will show you swearing? what if he/she reports you?

Presumably, Outspark would lol at the report and ignore it. After all, if someone has to report you in quotes rather than reporting the original PM you sent, it's pretty obvious they're up to something.

Well I mean like, someone PMs you, you PM them, they edit what you said and write somethiing offensive, you answer back, then they report. =/

I understand what you're saying. But try to understand what -I'm- saying... Outspark Staff members aren't stupid. They are going to request the -original- message in which the (quoted) TOS violation took place. A quote train which only -contains- a TOS violation quoted from a -previous- PM is -not- going to be sufficient evidence for them.
Besides, if someone is willing to put that much effort into getting you into trouble, do you really think they won't report you right now via the screenshot method?
