for soloing as a fighter.. you want mostly endurance, maybe a lillte str thrown in.

personally I put most into strength and a few in endurance maybe 4:1
I'm only lvl 11, but I can solo well....though I may die now and then, as you can tell by my name.... hope this helps
though you may be safer going his route.....since he probably has a lot more experience playing this game.....and because you would stay alive much longer

Checking the related wiki article and doing a little maths, there are a few options for a solo fighter.
Firstly, any viable solo build will want to be endurance heavy. Max Endurance would be a good choice, and make you popular in parties as a tank, if you ever wanted to be sociable sometime.
Second option would involve a varying amount of Spirit. To start with, every 5 points of Spirit gives you +1% chance of dealing a critical hit, but becomes slightly less useful after you put twenty five points into it, when it drops to +1% every ten points you add to it. So, option two is to mix adding points in Spirit to adding points in Endurance, at a rate of 2 points of Endurance to every 1 point in Spirit, and decide whether or not to stop adding Spirit once it reaches 25, though you should have some idea when it reaches that point what you want to do.
The other advantage to adding spirit on top of criticals is two-fold, your magic defence, the fighter's greatest weakness, will be improved, and the SP for using all your nice little fighter abilities will be increased, letting you use more moves against enemies, saving you money and time.
The third option is to add strength. This is, mathematically, not the best option for a solo fighter. The majority of damage you will deal in the game will come to depend on your weapons and your abilities more than the low increase in damage that strength would represent.
However, if you want to try that route, for the easy early game advantages it gives, then a good proportion would be 2:1 Endurance:Strength.
I would not recommend sacrificing HP for damage as a soloer - remember, the longer you live, the more damage you will end up doing anyway, and as a solo player, you will rarely be in a favourable situation against mobs of enemies.
Regardless of any other choices, I would suggest one handed sword and shield, for the increased defence it gives. Without a heal-monkey-slave near you, the ability to minimise damage will serve you better than high amounts of damage.
Good luck in game.
