KNIGHTS IN ARMOR:
Devil’s Hill
Playwright / Scrip Author: Anonymous member of Midnight Ravens Guild in Epith
Editor: Darktankerz of Epith Server
Date: January 3rd, 2010
Map of Isya appears while darkness and shadow begin to corner from the city of Uruga to the city of Elderine.
Narrator: July 20th, 2009, Isya was in the state of content and order. July 23rd, 2008, factions and imperial alliances start to declare independence from the continent of Isya and begin political turmoil between the numerous pacts of guilds. October 15th, 2009, the gap between supporters of the Imperial States and the supporters of the United Guild Alliance of Isya begins to widen. Negotiation of treaties fails and diplomacy ceases. Violence and riots spring up throughout the cities of Roumen, Elderine, and Uruga. War seems imminent. December 18th, 2009, the Imperial States unifies themselves into the Urugian Empire of Isya and claims ownership of all territories beyond and including the city of Uruga and its borders. All those who disobeyed the demands of the Imperial States were banished from the area. General Grave_Falcon proclaims himself emperor of the Urugian Empire of Isya. By then, the Imperial Army is already numbering in thousands of troops. In response to such dire threats, the United Guild Alliance begins mobilization of an army to counter any further invasion of Isya. The Central House of Council of the United Guild Alliance reorganizes their government and establishes their capital in the city of Elderine. They are now called the Republic of Elderine. January 3rd, 2010, Emperor Grave_Falcon orders further advance of his military force to occupy the deep mountains of Collapsed Prison and Scaffolded Execution Ground. Three Imperial Infantry Divisions are ready to depart within the coming few months. Meanwhile, the Republic House of Council orders immediate request for volunteers to strengthen their small fighting force. Both sides declare a state of war against each other. The invasion of the Republic capital of Elderine seems inevitable.......
Part 1: Recruitment
Date: January 5th, 2010
Location: Outskirts of the City of Elderine,
12th Recruitment Post and Training Camp of the Republic Army
Two officers of warrior class walks into the training camp. They were wearing blue capes and silver stripes and badge. Raw volunteer recruits are waiting for the arrival of their regimental commanders. Colonel Arch_Knight and Major uncle steps into the fenced yard of the camp. 500 volunteers from myriads of guilds in the city of Elderine are standing in the yard, chatting about what they will do and when will they fight.
Arch_Knight: (to uncle as he watched the recruits) Well, this is some regiment. Did they even fight in battles before?
uncle: Some, but most of them are still inexperienced in combat. They are just local citizens of Isya. They are item collectors, adventurers, friends, neighbors, vendor merchants, et cetera.
Arch_Knight: (with a sigh) What is their count, major?
uncle: 200 fighers, 150 archers, 100 clerics, and 50 mages. Total of 500 exactly, sir.
Arch_Knight: Very well, I want you to report that count to our brigade headquarter later and notify General Darktankerz about it. I don’t think theses fellas even handed in the paperwork yet, considering this was such a sudden recruitment.
uncle: Yes sir, will do.
Colonel Arch_Knight steps in front of the 500 volunteers, while his officers form up next to him.
Pyr0z: Attention Battalion! From up four ranks of lines right now! Hurry up! I said hurry up and stop chatting around! Form four ranks now!
The recruits hastily formed four ranks of lines in front of the Colonel, half scared by what the shouting officer just said, and half scared of what might this unknown colonel do.
Arch_Knight: (to Pyr0z) Thank you captain. (to the recruits) I am Colonel Arch_Knight. I am your commanding officer of the 7th Republic Infantry Regiment. I am grateful that you have all gathered in this place in a time of great desperation. The Republic is on the brink of defeat. It will be our job to stop the Imperial Army from reaching our capital. The Republic owes you fine knights of volunteers a gratitude of hope and bravery in countering a menacing threat against freedom and liberty. I already know many of you from my home guild. I am honored to fight by your side in future actions. I also know that many of you are already strong and are quick in physical reflex in close combat. However, strengths and wits are not enough to make good soldiers! It requires discipline! Major uncle has told me that you are in the habit of going AWOL and in the habit of harassing your fellow knights. Those behaviors will cease from now!
The recruits begins to show some serious faces of concerns when the colonel gave a brief pause.
Arch_Knight: ....You must take care of your fellow knights like brothers and sisters. Watch their back for they will watch your back. This regiment must learn to move as one; otherwise we will all get killed. For today, you will be organized into companies and platoons and I will allow you some time to get acquainted with your respective company commanders. Training will begin tomorrow at dawn so get some good rest. Are there any questions?
A recruit raised his hand.
Arch_Knight: Yes? You, over there.
Recruit 1: When will we get to fight on the front lines?
Arch_Knight: Much sooner than you want to, probably within one month. Any other questions?
Another recruit raised his hand.
Arch_Knight: (pointing at him) Yes, you?
Recruit 2: When will we get our uniform? You have a blue cape on so when do we get our own blue capes?
Arch_Knight: You will not get your blue capes of uniform. You will EARN it by graduating the training program. After that, you can finally consider yourself as Knights of the Republic. Any other questions?
Mamat: Colonel, we never saw any of the Imperial soldiers. What do they look like? How will we tell the difference between us and them?
Arch_Knight: I assure you, young knight, their faces look very similar to ours. We are all sons and daughters of Isya who grew up on the same continent after all. But what they are fighting for is quite different. We look at them as evil, but they look at us as evil as well. One thing I can guarantee is that they will show no mercy and no quarter for prisoners in the field of battle. So be prepared for the worst. Do not let their appearance deceive you of any compassion of your foe in the midst of combat.
Mamat: Okay… that’s interesting.
Arch_Knight: As for telling the visible difference, they wear red capes. It seems that the emperor is very fond of the color of red and so ordered his troops to wear the red capes in battle. They even paint their shields red in honor of their emperor. Are there any other questions?
No hands were raised and the recruits seemed awkwardly quiet.
Arch_Knight: Okay…. Captain Pyroz, you may proceed.
The colonel steps away and his officers quickly proceed into grouping them into six different companies.
Pyr0z: You are free to be in any company you wish. But you must disperse evenly throughout six different companies, or you will be transferred to a different company if one company is larger than the other. That goes for equal dispersions of each combat class as well. Please choose carefully. The knights in your company will be your closest companions for the next year or so. Each company will be supervised by a captain. I want six groups made in half hour. Move!
Soon the recruits begin talking to each other, discussing who to team up with.
Mamat: Ryan, meredy, king? You guys are here too?!
King_Shadow: Wow, you signed up for this recruit thingy?
Sir_Ryan: What the heck are you doing here Mamat? Weren’t you going to go exploring in Goblin Camp or somewhere like that?
Mamat: I got bored.
meredy_30: Bored? Come to think of it, yea me too, haha.
Mamat: Wanna join the same company since we are all bunched together? We are all from the same guild anyway.
Sir_Ryan: Yea sure, why not.
King_Shadow: I didn’t expect Archy and uncle to be commanders of this regiment. But I think we will do fine. They will go easy on us.
Mamat: You sure about Archy going easy on us? He kinda talked tough in his introduction.
King_Shadow: Nah don’t worry. Archy ain’t that brutal. But that Pyro dude, why is he barking order at us like that? He wasn’t like that in the guild, was he?
Sir_Ryan: I think it’s because of the army, not the guild. We can’t look weak in times like this. They are soldiers so they act like soldiers. Our freedom is at stake against the Empire. Think that’s why everyone seems tough now. And they need us to be tougher now more than ever.
Mamat: Yea, yea… noble Sir_Ryan making his great speech, hehe.
meredy_30: What happened to Darktankerz? I don’t see him anywhere in this camp. I thought he was colonel of the 8th Volunteers Infantry Regiment.
Sir_Ryan: He got promoted to full command of 2nd Brigade. At least that’s what I’ve heard. He is probably in one of those “Generals Only” houses with cozy bed and hot foods and everything.
Mamat: Aw man, I want to sleep in a cozy bed, we gotta sleep outdoor in tents.
King_Shadow: I prefer hot food, they give us lousy fudge sticks and cold bitter soups. Blah! I don’t care if they are nonperishable, I still want hot food.
Suddenly they hear a whistle blow. Several officers dispersed onto the field in different locations.
uncle: Okay time is up! Captains report to your companies! Recruits, you will also elect lieutenants and sergeants among yourselves in your company to command platoons and squads!
executux: Alpha Company rally on me!
Pyr0z: Delta Company rally on me!
Mamat: (to his fellow recruits) Oh geez, who should we go to?
Afeelia: Fox Company rally on me!
Sir_Ryan: Hey there’s old Scott, let’s go to him.
King_Shadow: Good idea, let’s go to Afeelia. Fox Company huh? Nice name kinda.
The four recruit friends approaches Captain Afeelia.
meredy_30: Hey Scott, what’s up?
Afeelia: Holy! You guys signed up too!?
Mamat: Yea, duh, this really isn’t a place to just “hand around” you know.
Sir_Ryan: Mamat, don’t say “duh”, he is an officer, remember. Show some respect.
Afeelia: Just don’t show that casual talk to me in front of the knights alrite? Archy is kinda concerned about being too soft. He wants us battle ready or something.
Archy_Angels: (from a distance) You said my name Scott?!
Afeelia: (responding back) No, it’s the other Archy!
Archy_Angels: (from a distance) Oh ok, never mind! (muttering) God, I hate when they only talk bout the colonel.
King_Shadow: Who’s that?
Afeelia: That’s Captain Archy_Angels of Bravo Company. He’s also from the same guild. You don’t remember him?
King_Shadow: Nope.
Afeelia: Anyway, which company you guys joining?
Sir_Ryan: We want to be in Fox Company.
Afeelia: That’s great. Just wait til…..
Suddenly another whistle blows, except this time it is much louder than the first.
uncle: Okay, everyone settle down. You will elect your two lieutenants and an appropriate number of sergeants now, for each company. Choose wisely. We don’t want slackers in the rank of officers.
Mamat: (to his fellow knights) Oooooo…. This sounds fun.
Afterwards, Colonel Arch_Knight returns to his officer’s tent in the training camp. It is a clear day so he let the outdoor light and green grass field show from the opening of his tent, despite the cold air of the month of January. The colonel sits in his chair and begins doing paperwork. About a couple hours later, Major uncle steps toward the tent entrance.
uncle: Colonel sir, I beg to report.
Arch_Knight: Yes, how are they doing now? Is there any bickering about me yet?
uncle: No sir, everyone seems calm, just the way we like. They are nice people, a bit rough on the language maybe, but they seem well.
Arch_Knight: That’s very good, Major. Carry on, and keep it up. Tell them to sleep early today and to eat dinner hearty. We have a long day tomorrow.
uncle: Yes sir.
As Major uncle leaves the scene to return to the recruits, someone begins creeping up on the colonel’s tent. Arch_Knight is still reading his book and finishing up his paperwork. He is also precariously leaning on his chair.
Norika: (shouting) Lieutenat Norika reporting for duty sir!
Arch_Knight is caught by surprise, falls from his chair, and stumbles down on the ground.
Norika: Umm.... Ops.
Arch_Knights fixes himself up to stand.
Arch_Knight: Darn it Norika. What in Isya are you doing here!?
Norika: I signed up to volunteer, Archy.
Arch_Knight: But you are married to Darktankerz. Did he even approve of this?! He will be worried sick if he finds out that you choose to fight in this war. You were also supposed to look after our guild.
Norika: Oh please. I can’t stand one minute staying away from Dark. I miss him already. He is your brigade commander, so if I join one of his regiments, I would be closer to him. I can’t let you, Dark, uncle, Wan, and the others fight while I just stay home and wait for the news. I can’t resist, hehe. And besides, Lethias agreed to take care of the guild, so we got nothing to worry about.
Arch_Knight: Well, now I got something new to worry about in exchange. I got to protect you now. You have any idea how Dark will feel if something ever happens to you under my command? He is going to be.... I don’t know the word, but perhaps he will be very angry at me.
Norika: You mean he is going to kill you?
Arch_Knight: Um... no, but very angry and disturbed. Wait, maybe yes….. but anyway, look, is it possible you can go back...
Norika: Home? No way, I am going to stay in this regiment and meet my Dark whenever possible. And when we sign up, he does not have the authority to discharge me without legal agreement, under the Council’s Articles of War, hehe.
Arch_Knight: (sigh) Fine.... but don’t do any more bold things, alright? Can you promise me that?
Norika: Okay Archy, I promise.

Part 2: Training and Fury
Date: January 6, 2010
Location: 12th Recruitment Post and Training Camp of the Republic Army
It is still dark and dim outside. The sun is still not up, and the officers are already on the move. The camp seems quiet and most of the recruits are still fast asleep in their cozy tents.
Arch_Knight: Major uncle, did we finish assigning the appropriate ranks yesterday? Are all positions of lieutenants and sergeants given out? And how many privates and corporals do we have in our regiment?
uncle: Um... well, they had some disagreements toward the end. We voted on who are to be lieutenants and sergeants, but we could not decide on whom because the votes were often a tie. So... um...
Arch_Knight: Go on?
uncle: So we let them decide on a rock-paper-scissor thing.
Arch_Knight: You got to be kidding me. We gave away officers’ rank by a mere gambling on who gets paper and who gets rock?
uncle: ... and scissor.
Arch_Knight: Oh yes and of course scissor (sarcastically). So all of our lieutenants and sergeants were assigned like that?
uncle: No sir, but I regret to say many of them were. As for the privates and corporals, roughly a mix of 480 of them got assigned.
Arch_Knight: Uh huh..... well, we will see how this works. We got no time to waste anyway. Let’s just hope that this will not turn into a disaster. Come to think of it, this regiment is already a disaster. How is old tank doing anyway, you met him yesterday right?
uncle: Oh yes, Dark was with General Bohrman at the Division Headquarter. He seemed very tired. I guess that old geezer General was keeping Dark busy all night long. They were planning all night on how to maneuver our army into collapsed prison. Enemy invasion force is believed to be composed of three Imperial Infantry Divisions, amounting to probably around 30,000 troops. So far, the Republic managed to gather 40,000 into our army by the recent recruitment campaigns. (Sigh) We are still far from ready to fight against an enemy force of veteran experience. We only got a month or less left before they launch a full-scale attack against us.
Arch_Knight: We shall see how “veteran” our knights are today, Major. (looking at his pocket watch) They are late, why are they not awake yet, the sun is about to come up.
Norika: (yawning) Good morning Archy.
Arch_Knight: Good morning Lieutenant, but please call me “Colonel.”
uncle: I’m sorry, I think they need some additional rests. They kinda partied all night as well. I didn’t notice it until just earlier this morning because they were partying quietly, playing poker and such.
Arch_Knight: Didn’t you tell them to sleep early?
uncle: Yea, but, they were kinda worked up and all, so you know….
Arch_Knight: Well, uncle, I am grateful that they are still in good spirits, but don’t be shocked if you see them depressed and tired after today’s little fun activities. I have some plans set up for them today. The first one is going to happen right now. (to Keeira) Captain Keeira, fire up your magic attacks on them, and please tries your best not to harm them too badly.
Keeira: Alrite Colonel.
uncle and Norika look puzzled by what the colonel meant by “magic attacks.” Soon enough Keeira fires away magic attack spells on the sleeping knights. Flashes, explosions, ice bursts, fire bursts, and a whole collection of colorful blasts happen instantly all over the camp. Soon chaos follows. Recruits start to jump out of the tents in confusion and panic.
LiteMagician: Oh my God! What’s happening?! We are under attack!
Recruit 3: Holy! My pants are on fire! Someone put water on it! Quickly!
Recruit 4: Oh no! The city is under attack! We are doomed!
Sir_Ryan: What’s happening?! Hey wait, who stole my canteen?! Where is my canteen?!
Recruit 2: Alrite here’s some water, put it out!
The recruit who stole Sir_Ryan’s canteen empties its content onto the lit pants. Soon the pants lit up even more flame.
Recruit 3: Oh my God! Someone save me! My pants killing me!
Recruit 2: Stop, Drop, and Roll!
Keeira is still firing away magic attacks relentlessly upon the recruits.
Sir_Ryan: Hey you! Give me back my canteen! I need that oil for the campfire.
Recruit 2: What’s wrong with you!? You don’t keep water in a canteen, but you put camp fuel in it!? You are a big MORON!
Sir_Ryan: Don’t call me moron you JERK!
Recruit 2: MORON!
Sir_Ryan: JERK!
Recruit 2: MORON!
Sir_Ryan: JERK!
Recruit 2: MORON!
Sir_Ryan: JERK!
Soon Pyr0z comes with a bucket of water and splashes a couple gallons of water onto the recruit with the lit pants. Keeira ceases magic attacks. By now everyone is out of their tents and in quite a mess.
uncle: Attention Battalion!
Everyone stops moving and looks at the group of officers standing before them. It is so silent, even a pen drop could be heard.
Arch_Knight: (to Pyr0z) Thanks for putting out the fire, Captain. I didn’t expect that. (with an optimistic voice to the recruits) Good morning, my fine knights. I am glad that you are energetic this early in the morning. But I am a bit concerned on how panicky you can get. And, oh yes, when I say wake up at dawn for training, I meant it. So please try to follow even the simplest order to its perfection. Lack of precision in following orders could sometimes mean deaths or even massacres on a battlefield. So bear that in mind, my knights. But today, we were kind enough to give you our special alarm clock. Would you like us to be your alarm clock for tomorrow morning?
Recruits soon say myriad things like “No”, “Please don’t,” and “We got the point, just don’t do that again.”
Arch_Knight: Very well, let’s get started, ladies and gentlemen. We are going to have a nice walk in Moonlight Tomb.
First scene: Everyone is jogging on the hills in moonlight tomb. Everyone is coughing and sweating.
Arch_Knight: (while jogging by his knights) Soldiers must learn to pace themselves! Learn to conserve their energy and still keep fighting in the ferocity of battle!
Another scene: It is already halfway in morning daylight, and the recruits are now crawling through mud-fields and obstacle courses with barbed wires and rotten tender meats that are dropped everywhere on the obstacle course. The recruits struggle through this awful mess. The colonel, captains, and lieutenants are observing the recruits, nearby.
Arch_Knight: (shouting at recruits) Knights must learn to ignore the stench and discomfort in battle! You must be willing to fight in ALL kinds of terrains! Ignore the cold mud! Ignore the disgust of rotting flesh in corpses! Ignore the cruel environment!
Another scene: It is noon and now they are climbing trees, climbing high stonewalls, and climbing spiked wooden fences. All the officers participated as well. Many recruits keeps on falling from the trees and hurts themselves.
Arch_Knight: (while climbing the stonewall) Knights must learn to advance through all obstacles without a moment of delay! Leave no one behind and leave no burden for your fellow knights! If you see a fellow knight wounded right next to you, it is YOUR responsibility to carry him or her with you, while still completing your mission!
Another scene: They are now in the open training field. It is mid-afternoon. They are now working on the battle line strategy. The colonel is lining everyone into battle lines and rehearsing the regimental maneuvers.
Arch_Knight: There will be two ranks in our primary battle line! First rank will be fighters. Second rank will be archers and mages and they will form up behind the defense of the fighters. Clerics are free to roam around in both ranks to help the fighters or provide heals for fellow knights. The officers will linger all over the line to properly administer orders to the knights. Company A, B, and C will form our right wing supervised by Major uncle. Company D, E, and F will form our left wing directly supervised by me. Depending on the battle situation, our primary battle formation may change. In all situations, listen and follow all orders of your officers! I can’t emphasize that enough.
The colonel lectured them on battle formations, and the recruits are now finally dismissed for the day. It is already 6 PM. The knights were now resting around their campfires.
Mamat: (collapsing on his back on the chair) Okay, I hate the colonel now. I wish I didn’t come here now.
King_Shadow: Oh man, look at my foot, it’s purple.
Sir_Ryan: King, that’s your sock, not your foot.
King_Shadow: Oh yea…. I guess I am seeing things, I’m so tired.
meredy_30: Oh my God, I smell like rotten tender meat now.
Mamat: Duh, we just crawled through a mud-field full of rotten tender meats.
meredy_30: Why the heck are we dealing with this? The 5th, 6th, and 8th Infantry Regiments are not doing these trainings. Those guys play hooky all day and some of ‘em even go into the city during daytime.
Mamat: I should’ve signed up much later or much earlier. Any regiment but this one…..
Litemagician walks to the knights around the campfire.
Litemagician: Hi, can I join you guys?
Mamat: Go ahead Lite, we are too tired to care about anything anyway.
Litemagician: Well, how was your day?
King_Shadow: How was our day? Let’s see, we got bombarded by mage attacks first thing in the morning, we ran 10 miles on Moonlight hills, we got mad splinters from climbing trees with our bare hands, we dug through mud fields for 3 hours straight, and we took boring class from the colonel just minutes ago. Yea…. We are doing great, awesome (sarcastically).
Litemagician: Well, at least we got something to do right?
Sir_Ryan: Wow, you are quite an optimist.
King_Shadow: I got tummy aches just thinking what we are going to do this for the next few weeks.
Soon Captain Afeelia approaches the campfire.
Afeelia: Hello gentlemen.
Sir_Ryan: Scott, I mean Captain Afeelia sir, where are all the other knights? We are the only ones at the campfire now.
Afeelia: They are taking baths and cleaning themselves now. The men’s bathroom is in the east hut and the lady’s bathroom is in the west hut. Wow, you guys smell quite bad now. I guess that’s no surprise, it was quite a day right. Anyway, you guys go take a bath, that’s an order. You guys smell like rotten tender meats.
Mamat: I just said that a minute ago too, haha.

Part 3: The Angry Falcon
Date: January 8, 2010
Location: Emperor Grave_Falcon’s Throne Room, Imperial capital of Uruga
Four high-ranking generals of warrior class of the Imperial Army slowly walk toward the Grand Throne Chair of the emperor. There, a very agitated man is waiting for them. He carries a large staff and a distinct red cape with gold trim over his blue mage outfit. Soon the four officers stops about 40 yards from the emperor’s foot. All four officers bow to the one sitting on the throne chair.
Grave_Falcon: (with a very eerily calm voice) What brings you here, generals?
The generals stop bowing and stand straight.
Wattsgate: My lord, we have come to suggest a new plan regarding the invasion. I believe that we are still not ready to mount an effective attack against the Republic. The Republic has already started a very advanced mobilization of an army of its own. Our army is still disorganized due to the territorial occupation missions and border control operations. With all respect, we need more time, my lord.
Grave_Falcon: (with a more upset yet calm tone) So, are you saying that you can’t do as I wish?
Wattsgate: That is correct, my lord.
In an instance, the emperor shots a powerful bolt on General Wattsgate and gets executed on the spot. The burnt body collapses onto the throne floor.
Grave_Falcon: (with an angry yet still calm voice) Now, are the rest of you going to say the same thing like that pathetic excuse for a general? Or did you come here to say that the invasion plan is in progress?
Wolfheart: (stuttering) N.. no… no my lord, we came here today to tell you that our plan is going as scheduled. We apologize for General Wattsgate’s rudeness. That won’t happen again.
Grave_Falcon: For your sake, I hope not. Now get out of my sight. And get that burnt trash out of my throne.
Soon the three remaining officers drag the poor corpse out of the throne with a quick pace. They are frightened to the bone about the emperor’s madness.
Hellhood: Oh my god, I did not see that coming. Are you okay wolf?
Wolfheart: I say yes for now, but you know how I really feel now right. Anyway, Sam, get old Watts’ body to the graveyard and bury him there, me and Hood must talk for a bit. Poor Watts, he was just an aide.
ParadoxSam: Okay.
Soon General Wolfheart and General Hellhood were out in the city courtyard of Uruga and sat at a bench, while General ParadoxSam gathers his subordinates to help dispose of the dead general’s body.
Wolfheart: Hood, do you get the idea that the emperor just blew up his own mind and got insane? I don’t think anyone can visit the emperor and come home without losing something.
Hellhood: …or someone.
Wolfheart: I should’ve joined the Republic, but I can’t do that since my guild supports the Empire. Or is that a soldier’s sin in loyalty? What do you think Hood?
Hellhood: You know what. I don’t really care about this war anymore. As long as we can survive by winning the war and get on with our lives, that’s the best thing for now. I just take the less worse of the two options. But, most of our soldiers are power fanatics anyway. They fight for the empire, not for our home in a way.
Wolfheart: What’s the other option?
Hellhood: Lose to the Republic and gets tormented for the rest of my life. That’s the other option.
Wolfheart: Hehe, yea, cruel world these days huh.
Hellhood: So, what are we going to do now? That angry falcon will be suspicious of us if we don’t do something very soon.
Wolfheart: We got six Imperial Divisions already guarding the borders of Uruga. The 8th Division is stationed in the northwestern sector of Collapsed Prison and already occupied some strategic hills in that area. But we still have to take the area in Scaffold Execution Ground. We only got a light reconnaissance element in that sector. We have to move at least an entire Division to take over that area. We can’t mount an effective attack if our route to the city of Elderine is blocked.
Hellhood: So what are we to do then?
Wolfheart: I will advance my 10th Imperial Division and depart from the city of Uruga, probably within the coming month. The emperor wouldn’t mind if it’s one month. He gave us two months deadline anyway. Hood, you must move at least one Legion of your 9th Division in support and stay right behind me. If we run outa troops, the reserve in your division shall advance forward. Is that agreeable?
Hellhood: Yes sir, I shall place the 23rd Legion as reserve. I will also grant you command of that Legion whenever convenient.
Wolfheart: Alrite then. I guess I can move all three of my Legions into a frontal assault and take those grounds. Hey, hood, you have the map right?
Hellhood: That’s right wolf, why?
Wolfheart: I want to show you something, it’s about two hills on the Scaffold Execution Map.
General Hellhound pulls out the map of Scaffold Execution Ground from his armor pocket and unfolds it on the bench.
Wolfheart: (pointing on the map) You see these two hills to the south. Those high grounds are very important. Our scouts report that the Republic has absolutely no troops on those hills yet. We must take those grounds before the Republic sees the strategic importance of those hills. Those hills provide defensive positions to control any troop movement of that area between Collapsed Prison and the Scaffold Execution Ground. But just in case they notice that, I want you to send in your Division through Dark Passage and create diversionary attacks on the northern sector of Collapsed Prison. That will further divide the Republic Army and allow full concentration of my Division to take those hills without as much resistance. The Republic already has one whole Division stationed in the southwestern sector of Collapsed Prison. It’s called the First Royal Republic Corps. If we attack them, they will be forced to bring even more troops out from their capital. If we can destroy some of their divisions before the actual invasion, the capture of the city of Elderine will be much easier. Do you agree?
Hellhood: Yes sir, I believe that is the best plan yet. I will tell General ParadoxSam to support the 51st and the 52nd Legion of my Division in the demonstrations of attacks in northern Collapsed Prison.
Wolfheart: (Sigh) Only downside to it is that, we would only have three Divisions to complete this entire invasion. If we wait some more time, we could get perhaps six or seven divisions to commence this entire operation. Our stubborn emperor is quite impatient considering the huge risk in this campaign. We have to commence our attacks by the beginning of February or sooner.
Hellhood: Don’t worry general. Our soldiers have never failed us before. The war shall be over in two months. That is my goal.
Wolfheart: I hope so Hood…. I hope so….

Part 4: The Solemn Party
Date: January 13, 2010
Location: 12th Recruitment Post and Training Camp of the Republic Army
In the past week, the 7th Republic Infantry Regiment has been training regularly under difficult conditions. Now the colonel is concentrating his effort on frontline battle tactics. The colonel allows a day-off to give some rest to the knights. He is spending his time in the officer’s tent. Major uncle steps inside the tent.
uncle: Colonel sir, um… I want to report something but I do not think it’s appropriate.
Arch_Knight: Speak freely, Major, I am sure it is more than relevant enough to gain my interest.
uncle: Okay then…. Look, Archy, I think you have been pushing our knights a bit too hard. Some of them are totally worn out even before we are getting into a real battle. Give them a break will ya?
Arch_Knight: I know, uncle. It ache my heart to push them into such awful mess each day.
uncle: They why?
Arch_Knight: Because, uncle, it is our duty to keep those fellas alive. We must make them ready for anything. This war will be a really gruesome one. Each of our knights has friends, families, husbands, and wives waiting for them back in their home guild. Many of them will not be able to see home again if we are to go into a battle against the Empire. I will keep as many of us alive even under the fury of combat. I owe them my life if necessary.
uncle: So you gave them a day off because you felt so bad, or did you do that just to surprise the knights once again like the first morning of the training day.
Arch_Knight: Well, it would be funny if I could do that again uncle, but no. I sent all of them back home for one whole day. They are probably in the city now. Scott and Keeira are dating, Norika is probably looking for Dark near the General’s house, the others are probably having some relaxation times in the main street of Elderine. They needed rest and their home guild would heal their heart more than these disgusting canned foods we eat. I got corn chowder by the way, want some?
Arch_Knight showed a very mushy and slimy pot of soup that was sitting near the stove of his office.
uncle: Um… no… I’ll pass, hehe. But anyway, why didn’t you tell me about it?
Arch_Knight: I got some good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?
uncle: Okay, bad news?
Arch_Knight: The Imperial 8th and 9th Infantry Divisions under General Hellhood already started moving around in Collapsed Prison. They might attack us sooner than we have expected. We are going to rush into our final stages in training in the next few days because I have a feeling we might be called to duty very soon. There might be as many as 30,000 as you said earlier. The 10th Imperial Division under General Wolfheart is still in hiding and the reconnaissance force from the Royal Corps cannot track them. They will try to attack our friendly force that is already stationed near the path to Elderine. They will come in force and the Republic will probably deploy many of us into the frontline.
uncle: So far okay, haha, that’s not the worst thing you said in the past. Remember about the gigantic fart we made back in….
Arch_Knight: (interrupting) Nope! Don’t say that, that was not funny at all. We almost got humiliated at that Christmas party. Dark almost blew the whole fuse off when that happened.
uncle: Hahaha, but that WAS funny.
Arch_Knight: Yea…. I guess so, good times eh?
uncle: So what’s the good news?
Arch_Knight: The blue cape uniforms for our knights arrived this morning. They will get them tomorrow when they come back. We are going to stop all our “dirt” training anyway. We are going to spend a lot more time in the combat training ground and rehearse them on battle line tactics. They don’t have to worry about getting their new uniforms dirty for now. I think they will like the new uniform too. They thought the capes were cool from the beginning.
uncle: Is that it? That’s just a routine. It’s not much of a good news.
Arch_Knight: I wasn’t finished. We also got an invitation to a party in the General’s House. Apparently, the House of Council is still in a good enough mood to enjoy the lovely winter sensation of snows and post - New Year atmosphere. You are coming with me. Also, find Norika and tell her to come with us. Darktankerz will be there to welcome us.
uncle: (with a grin) A party huh. Seems like just the thing I needed for a long time.
Suddenly a whole bookshelf on the side of the tent collapses and someone falls behind it with a large dust of clouds hovering in the air.
uncle: Oh my god! An intruder!
Arch_Knight: Calm down, Major. It’s just Norika.
Norika: Ouch! That hurts.
Arch_Knight: (to Norika) So… I assume you heard the whole thing, Lieutenant. Your stealth is becoming more impressive each passing day. I didn’t notice you until just now.
uncle: Um… does she do this every day?
Arch_Knight: Yup, she spies on me everyday, trying to get permission from me to see Dark whenever possible. But she fails each time, hehe.
Norika: But today I get to see my lovely husband! Hurray!
Arch_Knight: Yea, yea…. you won. So you fellas get dressed nicely and meet me at the General’s House by six in the evening.
Norika: By the way, Archy, the gigantic fart that came from your pet honeying last Christmas party was insanely funny, hehe.
Arch_Knight: Oh gee… Please don’t say that to the knights, alright? I just got over that only a few months ago.....
Eventually all three of the invited officers come to the General’s House and meets at the front porch. The General’s House is a big mansion filled with fine furniture and paintings. A lot of history of the city of Elderine lies with this mansion. Arch_Knight does not dress up in anything special except his usual armor and blue cape. Uncle comes with a full tuxedo and Norika comes with a Valentines suit.
Arch_Knights: Okay guys, when you step inside, you have to salute your superior officers first and then greet them. That is the common courtesy among officers. We don’t do that often cause I frankly don’t care. So be mindful of your manners. This party invited all the major army commanders and generals from the city.
The colonel opens the big door and a person in a white tuxedo suit greets them.
Butler 1: Hello. I assume you are Colonel Arch_Knight, Major uncle, and Lieutenant Norika of the 7th Infantry Regiment.
Arch_Knight: That is correct.
Uncle suddenly salutes to this butler.
uncle: It’s an honor to be invited to this party, general sir!
Arch_Knight: uncle, you don’t have to salute him. He is a butler.
uncle: Oh….. Um… you can keep this little misunderstanding a secret right?
Butler 1: Of course, Major. Anyway, come this way, General Darktankerz has been quite anxious to see all of you.
All three officers stepped inside the house and entered a large room with tables of feast and drinks set up everywhere. Many people are already at the party. General Darktankerz comes dashing to them when they first steps into the room.
Darktankerz: My god, I had to see it with my own eyes to believe it. Norika, why did you join the army?
Norika: I miss you. That’s why.
Darktankerz: Arch, why didn’t you force Norika out of the regiment, and let her go home?
Arch_Knight: Well, I can’t do that, she already signed up for my regiment so I really wasn’t able to do much. Plus, she was really persistent in trying to see you.
Darktankerz: (to Norika) My love, please just stay safe okay? I can’t stand the thought of losing you in a battle.
Norika: Don’t worry about me Dark, I am always okay. Besides, I am quite strong, don’t forget about that. Just because I am your wifey, you don’t have to treat me like I am an antique.
Darktankerz: (sigh) Alrite my love, you can go enjoy the party with uncle. I got something to talk about with Archy here. (to Arch_Knight) We have a secret meeting upstairs with all brigade and regimental commanders with General Bohrman. He said it is urgent.
Arch_Knight: Alrite then; thought the whole party thing was too good to be true anyway. (to uncle) Just have some fun, Major. There are lots of good foods and drinks. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be upstairs if you need me.
uncle: Oh ok then; I’ll just feast myself over there.
Norika: Awww….. But I wanted to hang out with you Dark. Can’t you stay here a bit longer.
Darktankerz: It won’t take a long time. I’ll be back downstairs in a little while. Just go enjoy the party with uncle, okay.
Norika: (with a sad face) Okay….

Part 4 (continue)
Soon Darktankerz and Arch_Knight climb upstairs to see at least a dozen high-ranking officers around a large table with maps of Collapsed Prison and Scaffold Execution Ground.
Bohrman: Ah gentlemen, glad you can make it.
Both officers salute to General Bohrman and got saluted back.
Darktankerz: Thank you Major General Bohrman.
Bohrman: (to the other officers) Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce Brigadier General Darktankerz of 2nd Brigade and Colonel Arch_Knight of the 7th Infantry. (to Darktankerz and Arch_Knight) As you can see there, you can see your fellow brigade or regimental commanders present at this meeting. We also have a senator from the House of Council here at this meeting as well.
yuona: Hello.
Darktankerz: yuona? You became a senator?!
yuona: Yes, I thought I should attend this meeting because many of your guild members are in this Division as well.
Darktankerz: But you are a senator?!
yuona: Yes Dark, I am a senator, it’s not that shocking. Get over it, hehe.
Misoka: Hi Dark!
Byiako: Hi Dark!
Darktankerz: Hi guys.
Arch_Knight: Hey Miso, Byiako. How are you doing?
Misoka: We are doing great. We are in command of the 8th Infantry Regiment. Byiako is colonel and I am his aide.
Bohrman: Okay, cut the chat, we have to move onto business. Now that all of us are here, we must discuss what is to happen to us when our Division is ordered to move into battle. The Royal Republic Corps is not strong enough to hold against the far superior Imperial Army. The Supreme Council will eventually issue an order to send a few of the Republic Divisions to support those units. We will most likely be it, since we are the “1st” Division. Now, look here on the map. The 8th and 9th Imperial Divisions are slowly extending their territorial control in the northwestern sector of Collapsed Prison. They already occupied many of the mountains up there and we will have to halt their advance. We are also worried about General Wolfheart’s 10th Imperial Division which includes the 85th Elite Fighter Legion. Our scouts have lost all sight of his troops just yesterday. He is definitely trying to do something. My guess is he will swing his troops around Dark Passage to reinforce General Hellhood’s 9th Imperial Division in Collapsed Prison. We must not allow them to attack us with such massive force. The 2nd Republic Division will probably be deployed into battle first and engage them in the north. We will either be ordered as a reserve or support the 2nd Division. As for our battle line, 1st Brigade under Brigadier General Coltvine will be up front. 2nd Brigade under Brigadier General Darktankerz will be right behind. 3rd Brigade under Brigadier General Braceforth will be our reserve. All four of our long-range DD mage batteries will be placed near 2nd Brigade. The time for full deployment of our Division is still unknown, so ready your troops at all time. Are there any questions?
Darktankerz: General, sir, may I point out something?
Bohrman: Yes general Darktankerz, what do you have in mind?
Darktankerz: Where was General Wolfheart’s Division last seen?
Bohrman: The elements from his 96th Legion were last seen in Scaffold Execution Ground. They left quite quickly. It’s no surprise. The route to Collapsed Prison by Dark Passage is a long trip so they must leave with haste.
Darktankerz: General, I think it’s a trap. Why would General Wolfheart leave such strategic area empty on purpose and in such a short time? The area of Scaffold Execution Ground is a direct route to the Imperial capital of Uruga. Why would he leave such important path unguarded? I think he wants us to think that they will attack from Collapsed Prison near the Dark Passage route.
Bohrman: I don’t know. Maybe there are other Imperial Divisions guarding the path to the city right at the border of Uruga. Who knows? But one thing is for sure. We have to strike those isolated Imperial Divisions now when we have the chance.
Darktankerz: General, I think it’s for the best that we move our whole division instead into the Scaffold Execution Ground. Those hills of the south in that map will be important. We could even let other Republic Divisions pass by and march straight to the city of Uruga. That pressure would indirectly force the Imperial Divisions in Collapsed Prison to retreat back to their capital in order to defend the city. We must take those hills while we have it for the taking. If the Empire takes hold of those hills, many good troops will die retaking those hills.
Bohrman: I understand your concern, but I need all of my brigades to support the attack in Collapsed Prison.
Arch_Knight: General, sir, I understand the need to destroy those two Imperial Divisions in Collapsed Prison, but surely there will be no harm in sending just one regiment into Scaffold Execution Ground. I would like to volunteer in my proposed task. I will lead my knights into that area if you will permit me. My regiment will be ready first thing in the morning.
Bohrman: (with some frustrated tone) Gentlemen, we will NOT divide our force. The plan was already approved by the House of Council and I shall follow that plan to its entirety. So the answer is NO, General Darktankerz and Colonel Arch_Knight. You are to hold your positions under specific instructions. DO NOT deviate from the main plan or I will have you court-martialed.
Arch_Knight: Understood sir…..
Darktankerz: Yes sir.
Bohrman: You are all dismissed, and thank you for attending. Senator yuona, please relay this message to the Supreme Council that the plan was reviewed. Enjoy the party.
Soon all of the officers leaves the briefing room and came downstairs.
Norika: Oh Dark, you are back! What did they talk about upstairs?
Darktankerz: Um… Stuffs….
Norika: You don’t look happy. What’s wrong?
Darktankerz: Nothing my dear. But Norika, make me another promise okay?
Norika: What’s wrong, Dark? You seem quite worried. Did someone say something mean to you? I bet he did! Who was it? I will talk to the guy who bullied you and knock some sense into him.
Darktankerz: It’s nothing. But promise me that you won’t try to be a hero, alrite? Stay close to Archy or uncle and be safe. Don’t go charging against the enemy in a battle alone.
Norika: Um… okay… I’ll be alrite, don’t worry about me (with a smile).
Meanwhile Arch_Knight approaches Major uncle who is sitting by a small round table. The Major is feasting on turkey, corn, biscuits, and an entire apple pie for himself.
Arch_Knight: That’s quite an impeccable appetite you got there, Major.
Major uncle chokes on the biscuits and coughs a little bit.
uncle: Archy! I almost choked to death, please don’t sneak up on me like that.
Arch_Knight: I wasn’t. I was actually standing here for about half a minute before I decided to talk.
uncle: Well you know, I’m hungry. We only got lousy foods at the training camp. I lost like 10 pounds in the past week. You don’t look so good yourself, Archy. You need to get something to eat.
Arch_Knight: I’m fine, Major, but I have to go now and return to my tent.
uncle: For what? Party just started. Can’t we hang out here all night?
Arch_Knight: I got to go back and prepare for tomorrow. Training is over. Our knights just graduated from the training program ten minutes ago. 7th Infantry Regiment will be moving out in a few days.
uncle: Oh ok cool. See ya, Archy. (a brief pause while still chewing his food) Wait, they graduated?! And we are moving out?! Archy, wait up! Tell me what happened!

Part 5: The Taste of War and Cruelty
Date: January 28, 2010
Scene starts out with videos from the news cameras of the Republic News. There is a sound of an explosion from a mage attack in the background. Trees are burning everywhere as well.
News Reporter 1: The Urugian Empire started its massive assault in a series of open field battles in Collapsed Prison 14 days ago. Casualties on both sides are catastrophic, numbering in the thousands.
Another video scene: Fighters fighting in close quarters and a line of archers firing volleys of arrows upon the incoming Imperial soldiers.
News Reporter 2: The Imperial Army has fortified its positions on the northern hills and has repelled all seven major counter offensives by the Republic Army. The Supreme Council still refuses to send in additional reinforcement to the already overwhelmed Republic fighting force in Collapsed Prison.
Another video scene: Skirmish battles near the bottom of hills and at the river in Collapsed Prison. Archers kept on firing back at each other on both sides. Fighters and Clerics charge across only to be mowed down by the enemy’s mage attacks.
News Reporter 3: The 2nd Republic Division and the Royal Republic Corps fought fiercely in the dense forests of Collapsed Prison near the hunting grounds of king colls for the past two weeks. The 24th and the 30th Republic Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Division are currently acting as vanguards in fighting against Emperor Grave_Falcon’s ambition to rule the entire continent of Isya. But slowly, the Republic is losing ground in Collapsed Prison.
The Red Imperial Flag with the insignia of the falcon bird waves on a hill in Collapsed Prison, as the news video fades.
Scene changes back into story setting.
Date: January 29, 2010
Location: 1st Republic Division Headquarter and Reserve Camp, Collapsed Prison
Colonel Arch_Knight and Major uncle walks around their troops in the reserve camp who were still fortunate enough to have not been sent into battle yet.
Arch_Knight: Major, I got to stay over at the Division headquarter for some time. Look after the regiment and take charge during my absence.
uncle: Yes sir.
Arch_Knight leaves the scene. Soon enough Norika and Keeira come to uncle.
Keeira: uncle, we just visited the field hospitals. It’s a terrible sight. They don’t have enough clerics and they don’t have enough room, and wounded troops get dropped off every second. Could we do anything to help them?
uncle: Alrite, I want you to tell all company commanders to send as much of their available clerics possible to aid the field hospitals.
Norika: Thanks uncle.
uncle: Oh… Norika, don’t go running off elsewhere. Just the hospital, no detours. That means no special made-up courier messages to Dark, okay? Dark is very busy now.
Norika: Alrighty….
Soon, almost all of the clerics, including Norika and some captains, head over to the field hospital in the rear of the battle lines of the 2nd Republic Division. While walking toward the hospital, the clerics begins to talk to each other.
Mamat: (sigh) This is sooooooo boring. We got our butts kicked in training camp for a whole week and we got our uniforms and even got called to duty. Well guess what; we did not fight a single battle in the past two weeks, but the guys in 2nd Division fights like everyday.
meredy_30: I agree. This really sucks eggs.
Dragonfruit: Don’t worry guys. We are doing something at least. We get to help some strangers today. That’s good enough of an excitement for me.
Norika: Well, it’s not a pleasant sight. People are hurt very badly and clerics can only do so much with our healing ability.
Afeelia: Let’s just help as much as we can and go back to our camp by five. They are serving hamburgers for dinner tonight.
Soon enough they see the horrible conditions of the hospital. Soldiers of all classes and ranks are lying on beds that were not able to fit inside the hospital tent. Many of them are screaming in pain. Clerics are running everywhere trying to attend to help each patient.
Dragonfruit: Wow, this is um… I don’t know, but it’s very bad.
Afeelia: This isn’t a hospital. It’s a torture house.
Hospital Cleric 1: You guys over there! We need help! We got 20 more wounded coming; they are in critical conditions!
Afeelia: Okay, let’s get moving guys.
Soon enough, all of the arriving clerics disperse in the hospital, treating, healing, and helping every patient they come across. The scenes are quite inexplicably gory.
Patient 1: Please help me.
Patient 2: I’m dying. I want to see my wife.
Patient 3: (delirious from fever) Captain? Where are you captain? Did we reach the river yet?
Patient 4: (Coughing) Please, I can’t take this anymore, someone help me!
A few hours later, all of the clerics come back to the camp.
uncle: Um… that was quick. How did it go?
Norika: We run out of SP stones. We helped all we could. Let me rest in my tent.
uncle: Okay… take care Norika. Hey Dragon, how was the trip to the hospital?
Dragonfruit: I don’t want to talk about it.
uncle: (with a concerned face) Okay…. Hey Scott, you feel like eating hamburger with me tonight?
Afeelia: (looking nauseous) No, I’ll pass dinner. Let me go to the bathroom. I think I might throw up.
uncle: (looking confused) What the heck happened to everyone?
Mamat: The hospital was not a pretty sight. You will understand if you visit there.
uncle: Uh huh…?

Part 6: Anticipation of Battle
Date: January 30, 2010
Location: Division Headquarter at General Bohrman’s tent, Collapsed Prison
General Bohrman and all of the battlefield commanders of the 1st Division assembles at the briefing of the incoming mission.
Bohrman: Here is our situation. The Supreme Council decided to not send in additional reinforcements into Collapsed Prison. He thought that it would endanger the city’s defense and so he decided to keep as much of the Republic Army within the city wall. Now here is the problem: our scouts informed us that General Wolfheart’s 10th Imperial Division is now in Scaffold Execution Ground. The lead columns of the 96th Legion were seen just hours ago. They are going to try to flank us here right where we are standing. We must react and counter their flanking maneuver by sending our entire Division to halt their advance in Scaffold Execution Ground. I want 1st Brigade and 2nd Brigade to take over the two hills which are inhabited by harkans, ogres, and king colls. But I assume those mobs all fled from the location by now. We have to wait another 12 hours before commencing the attack though and wait for approval from the House of Council.
Darktankerz: General, sir, with all respect, we must move our division NOW. If what you are saying is true, General Wolfheart’s Imperial Legions will take those hills first and begin fortifying their positions on the high ground. If we wait twelve hours, our charge will be uphill on open ground against enfilade enemy fire from their archers and mages. We cannot let that happen. Please, general, you must issue the order to advance NOW.
Coltvine: I agree with General Darktankerz, sir. If we occupy those hills now when there is little force opposing us, it would make the occupation process of those hills much easier and with much less casualty.
Bohrman: Gentlemen, we will not go into that area until told otherwise by the House of Council. Is that clear?
Darktankerz: But sir…
Bohrman: (shouting) I said is that clear?!
Darktankerz: Yes sir, understood.
Soon enough all of the officers rush to their posts to prepare for the anticipated battle. Arch_Knight is already at the regiment camp.
Darktankerz: Arch, this will be a mess, so when you go out there, please try your best to stay alive.
Arch_Knight: Hehe, I won’t die that easily, but um… What are your orders?
Darktankerz: Prepare your regiment for full battle alert. The entire Division will move into Scaffold Execution Ground, and there will be an open field before the first hill. The 6th Infantry Regiment will form up on your left and the 8th Infantry Regiment under Colonel Byiako will form to your right. We will charge across the field onto the first hill after 1st Brigade makes the initial charge. Once you take control of that hill, your regiment is to advance to the next hill and hold your position there. Do not stop under any circumstances until you reach that second hill. That will be our rallying point and we must strike hard if we are to successfully stop General Wolfheart’s Division.
Arch_Knight: Roger that sir. We will not fail you.
Darktankerz: One more thing Archy. Please protect Norika at all cost; I’m begging you.
Arch_Knight: I won’t let any harm come to her. Don’t worry. She will be in the rear of our line anyway. Take care general (salutes him).
Darktankerz: (saluting back) Good luck, colonel.
Soon Darktankerz rides on a white Pegasus horse mount and rides away to rally the other regiments. Soon enough, uncle comes running toward Arch_Knight.
uncle: Archy, what’s happening?
Arch_Knight: Tell all company commanders to ready their knights for battle, and prepare to go on double-quick march at any time. Move!
uncle: Oh my god… Okay, I’m on it.

Part 7: The Charge
Date: January 31, 2010
Location: Harkan’s Field, Scaffold Execution Ground
Whistle blows everywhere. The approval of an attack finally comes in and the Republic troops are moving as fast as they can into Scaffold Execution Ground.
Coltvine: 1st Brigade, get into position! Form line by battalions now!
Meanwhile on the first hill, the commander of the 95th Imperial Division witnesses the formation of the Republic troops on the field at the bottom of the hill. They are poised for a full-scale charge.
95th Imperial Legion Commander: (to his captains) Tell all troops to go on full battle alert now! Archers and Mages assume firing positions! Fighters form up to the front rank and stay low!
The Republic Army is pouring in the 1st Brigade onto the field and the troops fixes themselves into a long battle line. General Bohrman is in the rear of the battle line, observing his brigade commanders coordinating the line.
Coltvine: Fighters to the front! Archers, Mages, and Clerics form up right behind the fighters! File into line! March!
The troops hastily form two ranks of battle lines and prepare for full charge.
Bohrman: Coltvine’s Brigade advance east now!
Coltvine: 1st Brigade forward! Follow me!
Soon an entire line of Republic soldiers runs toward the first hill. General Coltvine is mixed in with the troops while leading the charge. Some of the soldiers carry the Green Republic Flags of the heraldry of shield and sword in their battle line.
Coltvine: At the double-quick soldiers! Advance forward!
Imperial long-range DD mage battery: 1500 meters away
20 powerful enchanter class mages lined up behind the second hill and prepares for attack.
Imperial battery commander: Mages target Field! Range fifteen hundred meters! Two - seconds interval! Fire!
The mages soon fire away long-distance blast spells into the air. Soon the long-range mage attacks barraged the charging Republic troops. Explosions blow up large holes in the battle lines and soldiers are blown off by the strong magic attack.
Coltvine: Mage AOE! Disperse now! Spread out! Spread out! Keep moving!
Soon the Republic Army positioned its own long-range DD Mage Battery at the rear of its line.
Captain WanSkaSkyWalkers’s Republic long-range DD mage battery: 2000 meters away
10 Enchanter class mages lined up and prepares for attack.
WanSkaSkyWalker: Mages return fire! Target Hill Slope! Range eighteen hundred meters! Fire at will!
The Republic mages soon start firing back at the hill with heavy magic attacks. Meanwhile General Coltvine leads his troops to the first hill, waving his sword in the air.
Coltvine: Brigade, forward to the hill! Move!
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Second Rank, fire on my command only! Wait until they get within a hundred meters!
Coltvine: Brigade, form a line! Shoulder to shoulder! Forward!
The Republic troops quickly fix themselves into a solid line again. They begin climbing up the hill as they approach the enemy’s crossfire.
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Rise up!
Archers and mages of the Imperial Legion stand up from their trenches.
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Ready! Aim! Fire!
Soon dozens and dozens of Republic soldiers got hit by the volley of fire and falls to the ground.
Coltvine: Brigade halt! Form a line!
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Second Rank lie down and fire at will! Keep firing! Mow them down!
Coltvine: Brigade! Ready! Aim! Fire!
The Republic Archers keeps on firing volleys of arrows against the enemy line, but keeps missing due to the defensive trenches. General Coltvine runs back and forth all over the line to keep the soldiers in place.
Coltvine: Battalion, fire at will! Keep shooting!
There are less than half of the Republic troops left since the initial charge. Soldiers are getting killed in dozens each passing second.
Coltvine: First Rank! Forward to the trenches! Charge!
Fighters begin to charge uphill against fortified enemy trenches. Soon clashes of swords, axes, maces, hammers, and shields are seen. Imperial fighters destroy groups of incoming Republic soldiers invading their trenches. General Coltvine soon realizes that not much of his troops are left.
Coltvine: (sounding angry and frustrated) Army, fall back! Retreat! Regroup back at the field now!
Suddenly, an arrow pierces through General Coltvine’s chest, and he falls down to the ground.
Soon, the remaining Republic troops of 1st Brigade run down the hill and across the field, and seek refuge back at the Republic line. Some of them are carrying wounded comrades and struggles to walk across the battlefield. Meanwhile the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Republic Infantry Regiments are forming a new battle line on Harkan Field.
Arch_Knight: (to uncle) Major, get all company commanders here posthaste.
uncle: Yes sir.
Soon all six captains come to the colonel waiting for them in the center of the regimental line.
Arch_Knight: (to executux) Captain executux, place your company on our left flank and tie up with 6th Infantry. (to Afeelia) Scott, place your company on our right flank and tie up with 8th Infantry. (to Archy_Angels and Keeira) Company B and E will form the center. Create a strong two-rank battle line immediately. (to Dragonfruit and Pyr0z) Company C and D will be right behind the four frontal companies and reinforce the center of the regimental battle line. Captain Wan’s Mage battery is keeping the enemy long-range mages busy now. We have to move quickly across the field before they start shooting at us again. We are going to charge uphill and then proceed to the next hill in the east and hold our position there. Are there any questions?
Six captains: No sir.
Arch_Knight: Okay, move.
Soon all four regiments of 2nd Brigade are in position to charge across the field.
Bohrman: Darktankerz’s Brigade advance now!
Darktankerz: 2nd Brigade forward!
Soon, all regimental commanders order their troops to move forward and lead them to the deadly hill.
Arch_Knight: Keep close ranks! At the double-quick! Quick step, my knights! Quick step!
uncle: Come on! Keep it up! Keep moving!
All 508 troops and officers of the 7th Infantry Regiment and the other brigade regiments close in to the enemy position on the hill.
95th Imperial Legion Commander: (as he watches the incoming second wave of Republic troops) Archers! Fire by battalion on my command!
Arch_Knight: Darn it, they are in trenches. Battalion, full charge! Do not stop until you reach the trenches!
The knights pass climb uphill as they witness the dead bodies of their comrades lying on the grounds of the hills.
Arch_Knight: Keep moving!
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Archers, rise up! Ready, aim, fire!
Soon, many fighters in the front get hit by the volley and fall to the ground. Yet they still run toward the enemy trenches.
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Fire at will!
Arch_Knight and uncle lead the knights forward in the first rank and begin to approach the enemy line, close enough to see the Imperial commander’s face.
Arch_Knight: Charge!
95th Imperial Legion Commander: Hold the line!
Soon, fighters and clerics come into close combat and brutally fight off the Imperial defenders of the hill. Heavy damage fighters swing their axes around and take down dozens of Imperial soldiers at a time. Others kept on stabbing and slashing the enemy archers and clerics wildly with their swords. Archers fire away volleys of arrows at the retreating Imperial soldiers. Some of the mages support the archers in ranged attacks. A large warrior raises his weapon and is about to decapitate captain Afeelia with a large two-handed sword.
Pyr0z: Scott, watch out!
Keeira fires a powerful mage blast against the enemy warrior and kills him.
Afeelia: Thanks Keeira.
Soon corporal Mamat charges against a group of archers and crushes them with his mighty hammer. Sir_Ryan is fighting an enemy captain and eventually slashes the enemy down.
Sir_Ryan: Victory!
Mamat: We kick butt! Yea!!!!
meredy_30: (shouting at the retreating Imperial troops) Don’t mess with the knights you jerk-wads! Hahaha!
Eventually, captain executux finds the enemy commander hiding in the trench behind a wall.
executux: You *******. I got you now!
95th Imperial Legion Commander: No wait, I surrender! Gah!
Executux stabs his sword into the commander’s chest and the Imperial officer falls down to the ground like a sack of potato.
Soon the 7th Infantry Regiment regroups at the captured trenches of the first hill.
Arch_Knight: Major uncle, damage report?
uncle: Roughly 50 dead and 40 wounded sir.
Arch_Knight: Okay, tell the clerics to tend the wounded. Leave the dead. We have to keep moving until we reach that second hill. Tell all company commanders to reform our line and prepare for a second assault.
uncle: Yes sir!
executux: Colonel sir, we just routed the 95th Imperial Legion on this hill. I just killed the commander. His outfit showed that this is one of General Wolfheart’s Legions.
Arch_Knight: Alright, good work captain, tell your knights to prepare to move out. We can’t get too comfortable here now.
Soon the 7th Infantry Regiment charges uphill on the next hill, but to their surprise, they saw no enemy soldiers on that hill. The second hill is empty!
King_Shadow: What happened? I thought there would be more on this hill. I bet they ran off like cowards! HAHA!
uncle: Something is not right. Where are the other supporting regiments that are supposed to meet us here?
Arch_Knight: Don’t be startled, Major. They are probably just delayed. We shall meet them here soon enough. In the meantime, I want you to take the left-wing of the regiment and dig trenches to the northeast. I will position the right-wing and dig in at the high grounds on the southeast. We have to secure this hill first. We are quite lucky that the enemy chose not to set up a second battle line here. General Darktankerz will relay us further orders when he arrives here.
uncle: Yes sir.
Arch_Knight: Norika, how are you doing?
Norika: I’m doing great Archy. I took down three of them by myself too.
Arch_Knight: Okay that’s impressive. But stay close to the rear near Captain Pyro. We got some wounded fellas on the rear of our lines too.
The colonel stares at the bottom of the hill and feels a very ominous presence coming his way.

Part 8: Devil’s Hill
Date: January 31, 2010
Location: 10th Imperial Division Headquarter, outskirts of Uruga near Scaffold Execution Ground.
An Imperial courier runs toward the Division headquarter of General Wolfheart and abruptly enters the General’s office.
Imperial courier: General Wolfheart! Urgent message from the 96th Legion!
Wolfheart: Speak.
Imperial courier: The Republic has broken through our line! They routed the 95th Legion after two consecutive charges. An entire Republic regiment is occupying the east hill. Elements from the 96th and 85th Legion are extending their lines, to reform the broken center line on the west hill. They managed to suppress the other Republic attacks on both of our flanks.
Wolfheart: Damn…. Relay orders to Commander Lussac of the 23rd Legion stationed in this area to immediately advance his troops forward. Push that enemy regiment out of that hill. Also, make sure that regiment is completely CUT OFF. I don’t want any more breaks in our line. Surround that Republic regiment and destroy it!
Imperial courier: Yes sir!
In the meantime, the knights of the 7th Republic Infantry Regiment are waiting impatiently for their support regiments.
Pyr0z: I don’t think they are coming. We waited two hours but they are still not here.
uncle: That’s impossible. If we can break through, then so can the other regiments. (looking at his pocket watch) It will be nightfall soon. Deploy some scouting parties back west and observe the situation. Do it quickly before it’s too dark to see anything.
Pyr0z: Yes sir. I will organize a platoon to scout the area.
Soon some volunteer scouts including King_Shadow and Sir_Ryan approaches the west hill which they passed by in the first attack hours earlier. Soon they witness that there are some people on that hill and begin to feel optimistic that they were not alone. However as they get closer, that happiness turns into dread and fear. The Imperial troops had recaptured the first hill and are reforming their battle line. They saw the dead bodies of their comrades from the 6th Infantry Regiment.
Sir_Ryan: Oh my god… Those guys didn’t make it here. And we are cut off! We’ve got to tell the colonel right away.
In the meantime, the colonel is helping the knights dig up the trenches.
Norika: Scott, where is Dark?
Afeelia: I don’t know. Last time I saw him was when he was with colonel Byiako and helped to lead the 8th Infantry. I lost sight of him when we charged uphill on the first one. But don’t worry, we will see them all again.
Soon, Sir_Ryan and King_Shadow come running to Captain Afeelia. They are in panic and out of breath. They are speaking a lot of gibberish.
Afeelia: Guys calm down. What happened?
King_Shadow: We saw enemy soldiers on the west hill. The other regiments did not make it here! We are alone!
Afeelia: Oh… that’s not good. I will tell the colonel about….
Suddenly Afeelia saw some sparks in the distance coming from the field at the bottom of the hill.
Afeelia: Holy crap! Everyone take cover!
Soon magic attacks barraged the entire hill all over the place. Explosions and blasts are made on every foot of the ground.
Pyr0z: Mage AOE! Everyone get into the trenches and stay down!
Imperial long-range DD Mage Battery: 600 meters away
The same 20 mages from before are now relentlessly casting away AOE spells onto the hill.
Imperial Battery Commander: Fire away all AOE! Maximum damage! Range six hundred meters!
Soon all the troops and officers find a nearby foxhole and crawls into it.
Arch_Knight: Darn it. I completely forgot about their long-range mages.
Soon enough they saw a fresh battalion of Imperial soldiers charging up the hill from the southeast. Enemy troops are now only a few hundred meters away. The mage barrage is still causing a heavy beating on the hill.
uncle: We are getting pinned down! What do we do!?
Arch_Knight: Captain Keeira, fire a bright magic blast as high as you can into the air! Signal an emergency distress flare!
Meanwhile at the Republic 1st Division headquarter, the battered troops are resting in the relief area and are regrouping themselves. General Darktankerz managed to come back after an awful mess and was wounded twice in the arm during the assault.
Scrft: General, sir, you are wounded. You may need to have a cleric heal that for you.
Darktankerz: I’m alright, captain. I just want to see my wife here. Seeing her face is the best heal I can get. She should be back here by now. What is the damage report?
Scrft: Sir, the 7th Infantry Regiment is not here. All of them are not here. They never retreated.
Darktankerz: What?!
Scrft: We have reasons to believe that Colonel Arch_Knight’s regiment broke through the enemy line and occupied the second hill.
Darktankerz: (looking shocked) My wife too?
Scrft: Yes sir, she is most likely on that hill by now.
Darktankerz: That would mean they are cut off! We have to save them!
Scrft: With all respect, I don’t think we can mount another counterattack. General Coltvine is missing and figured to be dead. More than half of 1st Brigade was annihilated and roughly a quarter in your 2nd Brigade, sir. We are in no conditions to mount an attack any time soon.
Darktankerz: What about 3rd Brigade under General Braceforth?! Couldn’t we use them?
Scrft: General Bohrman is forbidding any additional attack. We can’t move for at least half a day until we can get the wounded secured and our battle line reorganized.
Darktankerz: Get all of my troops in the relief zone at the original rallying point, on the double. We have to break through and rescue them! A single regiment can’t stop an entire army by itself.
Scrft: But sir.
Darktankerz: NOW captain! We are going to rescue them first thing in the morning! I just hope they can hold until then.
Suddenly, a red flare blows up in the air on top of the east hill. The troops see them with some amusement. Captain WanSkaSkyWalker catches sight of the flare.
Darktankerz: (staring at the flare) It’s no doubt by now. That’s the 7th Infantry on that hill.
Captain WanSkaSkyWalker’s Republic long-range DD Mage Battery: 1500 meters away
WanSkaSkyWalker: That’s a Republic distress signal! Mages, prepare to fire long-range damage support on coordinate Juliette-Two-Five-Niner! Maximum AOE damage!
Soon, all of the mages in the battery starts to cast away heavy-damage. At the same time, the battalions of the 23rd Imperial Legion are now within 200 meters of the 7th Infantry Regiment.
executux: Knights, prepare to defend yourselves!
But suddenly, the magic barrage from the Republic battery hits the incoming Imperial troops and blows them up into smithereens.
Norika: Wow, that was easy. Hehe.
Arch_Knight: Don’t let your guards down, knights! They got two more battalions right behind that one.
Soon, the Imperial troops fall back to the field and regroups again at the bottom of the hill. The magic attacks on the east hill cease for now.
Arch_Knight: Major uncle, move your left-wing here and reinforce our position on the right flank. I doubt they will attack us in the northeast due to the steepness on the hill there. The rear of our line will be okay. Our Republic Mage battery will keep the enemy troops on the west hill busy.
uncle: Yes sir!
Soon, about 2000 Imperial soldiers charge up the hill against the high grounds of the 7th Republic Infantry.
Arch_Knight: Assume Defensive-Depths Battle formation! Fighters up front and provide shielding! Archers form second rank! Fire on my command only!
The Imperial troops are charging uphill and are now 100 meters away. They are yelling like furies, trying to scare off the knights.
Arch_Knight: Ready, Aim, Fire!
The entire first row of the Imperial troops got hit by the volley and fell to the ground.
Arch_Knight: Prepare second volley! Ready, Aim, Fire!
Soon another row of the enemy troops got hit and fell down. The wounded foes are screaming in pain. The ones who are still standing dash toward the hill summit to overrun the Republic regiment.
Arch_Knight: Archers and Mages, fire at will! Fighters prepare for charge!
All fighters assume offensive stance and point their sword at the enemy.
Arch_Knight: Charge!
About 150 fighters run down the hill against a superior enemy force. Due to the constant barrage of archer attacks and ferocious fighters charging downhill, the enemy troops begin to break apart and run away in panic. The knights attack recklessly against the charging enemy soldiers. Slashes, stabs, and impaling with swords, axes, and shield are seen throughout. Soon they realize that they routed the enemy again.
Arch_Knight: Fall back to the line! Move!
Soon the fighters came back, but they find out they lost a third of their number during the charge.
Arch_Knight: Major, what is our loss so far?
uncle: So far, 200 dead and 100 wounded sir. Even our archers, mages, and clerics became victims to the enemy magic barrage minutes ago.
Arch_Knight: We’ve got to hold this position. General Darktankerz will do everything he can to get us out of here. For now, I think the Imperial troops will not come here for at least a few hours. We made them pay a devil to charge uphill.
uncle: We sure did, Archy.
About an hour later, an Imperial courier rides to General Wolfheart’s office and dashes into his room.
Imperial courier: General, message from Commander Lussac, sir!
Wolfheart: Sergeant, next time KNOCK the door first. It’s quite rude. Anyway, what is it?
Imperial courier: Commander Lussac ordered all seven of his infantry battalions to charge uphill. Three battalions were annihilated and two other battalions sustained heavy casualties.
Wolfheart: (with a very disturbed face) Did we take that hill yet?
Imperial courier: No sir. The enemy commander managed to mass his regiment at precisely where our forces were charging. He even led his regiment in a downhill charge against us.
Wolfheart: (with an angry shout while throwing his paper on the floor) Damn it!
Imperial courier: Sir?
Wolfheart: (with a calmer voice) Get the 1st Battalion of the 85th Elite Fighter Legion to the bottom of that hill. (shouting) That regiment must be destroyed by tomorrow morning!
Imperial courier: Yes sir, I will notify captain Georgetown to move his battalion to that hill.
Meanwhile on the hill, Arch_Knight gathers his knights and begins a brief meeting.
Arch_Knight: Ladies and gentlemen, as you are all aware by now, we are cut off and surrounded by the Imperial 10th Division. We cannot retreat, we cannot withdraw, and we most certainly cannot surrender. We have to be a thorn in the belly of the enemy until our relief force arrives here. So try your best to survive this fight, and take care of the person next to you.
The colonel gave a brief pause with a sigh.
Arch_Knight: Knights, we are the only thing that is stopping the whole Imperial Army from reaching Collapsed Prison and Elderine in this Scaffold Execution Ground area. If we lose this hill, I believe we will lose the war. We must defend this hill to the last. Our home depends on it.
The colonel gave a salute to his knights. It is the first salute that the knights ever received. His fellow knights salute to the colonel as well.
Arch_Knight: Good luck, my knights in armor. It is an honor to fight by your side.
Mamat: Don’t worry about us, Archy. We will not let you down. I can promise that.
Sir_Ryan: That’s right! We will hold this hill all week if we have to.
Arch_Knight: It’s getting dark. Let’s just hope they won’t attack us during the night. Keep a low profile while maintaining surveillance on our perimeter. Understood?
Knights of 7th Infantry: YES SIR!
Arch_Knight: Alrighty then. Position our remaining two hundred troops on the southeastern slope of the hill. Keep the wounded on the hilltop where it’s most safe. Any questions?
meredy_30: Colonel, what will happen to us when this battle is over?
Arch_Knight: I don’t know, my friend. But may the future be brighter for all of us when this cruel war is over.
Soon night comes, and the darkness of the forest becomes an uncanny sight for the knights.
King_Shadow: (whispering to Afeelia) Scott, I think I see something.
Afeelia: (whispering back) How can you see anything? It’s too freakin’ dark to see anything.
King_Shadow: (whispering) It’s my instinct.
Mamat: (whispering) Yea, right… you thought your foot turned purple one time.
King_Shadow: (whispering) No, I’m dead serious. Trust me on this.
Afeelia: (whispering) Pyro, what do you think?
Pyr0z: Let’s see what’s happening. (shouting) Archers! Fire three arrows downhill now!
Soon about 30 archers fired away a few volleys of arrows aimed downhill. They hear screams and collapsing bodies nearby.
executux: Oh my god! Go on full battle alert! We’ve got incoming enemy troops!
uncle: Fighters to the front! Block their entry! Do not let them overrun us! Archers fire at will!
It is almost total darkness. They are able to see flashes of what is happening due to the occasional bright spark of the mage attacks. Chaos is everywhere. Enemy fighters of the 85th Elite Fighter Legion charge uphill with great fierceness. The knights of the 7th Infantry suppress the enemy’s advance, but they are still being overrun.
uncle: Scott! I’m out of SP stones!
Afeelia: Here! (handing some SP potions) Take some of my potions.
The enemy fighters keep on pouring into the line. Archers fire away numerous volleys against the fighters. Soon enough, everything becomes silent. The sun rises and a light fog covers the hill.

Part 9: Hope and Reunion
Date: February 1, 2010
Location: Southeast hill, ogre’s hunting ground, Scaffold Execution Ground
A battalion of the 8th Infantry Regiment marches into the hill where the 7th Infantry is believed to be at. Colonel Byiako and major Misoka are scouting the hill.
Byiako: Archy?! Uncle!? Norika!? Can you hear us?!
Misoka: I don’t think they are here.
Darktankerz: We can’t give up. Keep looking. We finally broke through the enemy’s line just an hour ago.
Soon a messenger comes running at Darktankerz.
Republic messenger: Sir! We found them! They were in the southeast part of the hill.
Darktankerz: You saw Norika!? Was she there?!
Republic messenger: I don’t know sir. We just found only a handful of them. Perhaps only a hundred of them were still standing. The rest are either wounded or dead.
Soon all of them run towards what remained of the 7th Infantry. In the first sight, Darktankerz sees Norika standing by a tree near her fellow knights. It brought great joy and relief to his heart.
Darktankerz: (with a big smile) Norika! My love! Are you okay?
Norika: Dark! We missed you!
The couple hugs in front of the knights.
Darktankerz: (noticing Arch_Knight sitting by a tree, wounded) Archy? Are you alright?
Arch_Knight: Just a light slash on my arm. That’s all. But Dark, do me a favor.
Darktankerz: What is it?
Arch_Knight: I need a vacation.
Darktankerz: Hahaha, nice one.
Arch_Knight: The wounded are over there behind the tree-line. The regiment is pretty shot up. We need to get refitted.
Darktankerz: Alright. I’ll take care of the regiment. You guys did a hell of a job taking this hill. And I can’t thank you enough for protecting my dear Norika.
Arch_Knight: I didn’t protect her. She actually protected me. I almost got stabbed in the back, but Norika covered me. That’s why I ended up with just a slash wound in last night’s attack.
Norika: Archy can be quite modest sometimes, hehe, but yes, it’s true I saved him a few times.
Major uncle helps Arch_Knight stand up.
Arch_Knight: (to uncle) Thank you, uncle. (to Darktankerz) So what now, Dark?
Darktankerz: The 8th and the 6th Infantry Regiments will take over your positions. By tomorrow, the 3rd Division will come here and relieve the entire 2nd Division for recovery. General Splintwood wants to give guys a rest too.
uncle: Who’s Splintwood?
Darktankerz: He is the new Division Commander. Bohrman got relieved of duty after the House of Council found out about his negligence in battle command tactics. That jerk got what he deserved and now he is a laughing stock in the army.
uncle: So where do we go now?
Darktankerz: You guys will go back to Collapsed Prison and recover for a bit. New orders will be administered in a few weeks, so get some quality rest.
uncle: Did we win this fight?
Darktankerz: Yea of course we won. General Wolfheart is already withdrawing his division from Scaffold Execution Ground. Why do you ask?
uncle: It’s nothing, Dark. Take care.
Soon, the officers rally up the regiment and begin to move out.
Narrator: After the battle of Ogre Hill in Scaffold Execution Ground, the battle report indicated that the 7th Infantry Regiment lost more than half of its strength on the fateful cold day in January. Only 87 knights walked out of the battle unscathed. 135 were wounded and the remaining 286 were killed, captured, or missing. This was the beginning of their story of valor and their fight for liberty. They are the knights in armor who fought for each other and for their home. The tide of the Great War is finally changing, and for once, a hope for victory shines on the Republic against an empire which was once thought to be invincible. Before this war is over, even the voice of the Republic can be heard by the Emperor. One month later, the 7th Republic Infantry Regiment will be meeting General Wolfheart’s Imperial Division once again, in Dark Passage.
