View Full Version : Allow useful threads to stay in General Discussion

In the old forum layout, everything was included in "general discussion", which created great triumphs for the players, such as the creation of tiny mp pots, the increase xen rate, and more recently take off xen stone as a prize from lucky ball. (mostly thanks to thrakx)
In the new layout, everything is divided into it's intended folder.
The discussion about mask is redirected to item discussion, discussion about relationship is redirected to off-topic, and even the "xen stone pledge" thread has been redirected to Gameplay section.
The intention is noble, however it is inefficient
the threads that are still left in General Discussion are those threads that absolute does not belong anywhere else
which include necro thread, misplaced threads, random threads that serve no purpose, and other threads that serves similar purpose
so I ask the community, do you like the way it was before when everything stays in general discussion, or do you like it when everything is divided into it's respectable section?
vote now.

yeah nobody checks anything anymore this new forum totally SUCKS. There i said it. We were all thinking it, and yet still once again outspark is too thick to listen to us and they make things soo much more complicated than they have to be.
This forum used to be a good place to spend time and help people. Now its dying slowly cause theres never anything to read on it.
Outspark you totally boned us on this whole forum. Notice anything about it? like activity going doooooooown, and less and less posts all the time? Yeah thats cause YOU(outspark) screwed things up as usual yet again.
Think this stuff through you know? Maybe actually ASK us what our opinion is? Oh wait you dont really do that until we all raise such hell that you have no choice but to pay attention..

Not that I care or anything but they want to be professional about their work and organized.. besides you people should be in game not on the boards chit chatting, this is not called Secret of the General Discussion Sheesh
Obviously they just want to lower community stress, in other words they removed your voices to them.

The way the new boards are set up has reduced the spam greatly and I for one am very glad they set it up the way they did. There are sections for specific discussions. If its about an item it will be moved to the item section. I know it takes time to get used to but you will

the only thing i like about it is the addition of an "off-topic" section. Other than that I still disagree. I guess we all have different opinions huh.

The new changes has helped us immensely. We can now easily find threads as they are more organized. It may take time to get used to it, but we have confidence that it will work out for the better in the long term. As the community gets bigger, we cannot have everything all bunched into one forum. It would not be efficient to manage or to find things. Our goal is to make the forums manageable and more easily accessible for everybody.
We have received tons of great feedback so far and things has been more easy to manage. While it may seem that we do not listen to the negative feedback, that is not true. We make every effort to listen to every feedback, good or bad. We will continue to listen to every constructive criticism and work on improving the community.
Do players have any suggestions besides moving everything back to general discussion?
I am sorry that some users feel that we have screwed over the community, as we have no intention to do so.

I know this is a little off-topic, Jungle, but uh...speaking of input and suggestions, have you seen the Stats For Pets thread that Taney and I have been working on? We actually want someone to take a look at it...think it'd be good for everyone.
On-topic: I think the new layout is fine...makes it cake for everything to be found. Though it does make the general discussion area a little cluttered and lackluster. Weighing this con against the pros, I vote in favor of the pros.

Haha, if Outspark listens to the community of solstice players, then please put in a "Rant" forum section, it would greatly reduce the ranting threads in any section.
RANTING FORUM SECTION FTW!!!

and to the person who thinks we should be ingame all the time:
we have others things to do, its better to chat in the forums while doing rl stuff than afk ingame and die >.>

lol, I'd give +rep for that comment if we still had the rep system. So true. XD
I miss the old system, because everything was in one spot and I didn't have to continously click around to find what I was looking for, and the old system gave people a chance to just have fun chatting on the forums. It was a bit like 'controlled chaos'. But on the other hand, the new system really did reduce the amount of spam in the forums...
Maybe they could just make general discussions more...general...

My xen pledge ended up in gameplay? So that's where it went....
No wonder why I don't get as many hits for it anymore.

I am sorry that some users feel that we have screwed over the community, as we have no intention to do so.
Honestly in my point of view, the CLs, and others who monitor the forums, are trying their best to satisfy both themselves and the community. And like GM JungleCurry mentioned, we'll get to used over a period of time. Some people just don't like adjusting to changes, and I can't argue with that, but you have to face one point in life where you need to adjust to something new. If you can't adjust to anything new, you're pretty much stubborn to actually try then.
And again, if you were to take the place of a CL, or anyone who monitors the forums, it's difficult for them to organize everything, to put where this thread thread goes and that thread, etc. It's not like they all work 24/7, and it's not like they read OUR minds. Are they psychics? No. We can't yell at them for moving threads in a category that doesn't make sense to us. It may be better for them, as monitors of the forums, but for us, it could be frustrating or disappointed.
And like they always said, if you think it's in the wrong category and feel like it should be in a different, or previous location, go tell them by private message, or etc, rather ranting all over the place because your thread is in a category that seems to be irrelevant to your thread.
As community, based upon what I've been observing throughout the forums, we're suppose to also help those who monitor the forum, not rant, not constantly criticizing about their work, etc. Not everyone is perfect. We can't start rioting just because of a bad thread change. As a community, we should also help the monitors do a great job in maintaining the forums. With cooperation, we wouldn't have these rants and complaints. Like I mentioned, they're trying their best to both satisfy themselves and us. If one thinks this change is unsatisfying, then go pm them, w/e, not form a thread and yap yap yap. Also, if you can't find your thread, there's a search engine in ths forum to actually FIND your thread. Easy as said.
But like in every change, there's usually complaints, and I have one myself. With all these specific threads appearing, the question now turns to: What exactly is a General Discussion then? I seen the definition appearing all over the forums, but now it's pretty frustrating and confusing. And yeah, I agree in useful threads staying in General Discussion, but if the monitors feel as if this thread feels like at home in another category, I probably won't argue.
Hmm, that's all I have to say I suppose...

eeh... doesnt really matter to me
i guess overall though i liked it when most threads were in general discussion... but hey i dont mind the threads being moved around a bit... its not like they are supremely difficult to find... well actually now that i think of it i was tired of all the random posts in general discussion... and now that alot are moved about i lurk more different "categories" of forums and see different topics to post about or just read outta curiousity an boredom... to me its overall a good thing i guess that they made this change... i dont really think they should ask us about changing the forums though, if its helping CLs and what not we should not be the ones to complain since we dont have to go through and close, scan, etc. the threads and posts(actually its quite aggitatting seeing ppl say "OMFG u guys shoulda ASKED US before doing this!!", okay thats like if u owned ur own website and the viewers/members were telling u how to run things >..>; )... im actually surprised they werent as organized before... but hey im not saying anyones wrong or anything but i just dont find this such a serious matter... i mean, yeah u might not find some threads at an instant in one spot but i mean all u have to do is click ur mouse--use ur index finger muscle--and after a few clickaroos ull find what ur lookin for... not like u have do some extraneous thing in order to find something.... also when alot of different sorta topics were in general discussion ppl would flame the posters and say "FAIL!! WRONG SECTION NOOB!!"....... oh well, this isnt a hard thing to get use to... i find topics well ;P
*edit*
now i wanna take back my vote :x

I think I can speak for most of us that we really appreciate what you have been doing for the community
the mini-games, the hosting of forum mvp, promise of new updates, and planning new events
they do not go unnoticed. We do really appreciate what you have done for us Mr. Curry
However General discussion is a great tradition in the SOTS forum. We would like it to be left alone. =3
