and if you guy think a single def point is worth 25 M for a shield; it only add one WHOLE def point than my trusty +4ap3 conquest shield

what you said is fair enough because each player has different style and priority. In your case, you prefer to take risk to xen a 4ap gear to +5 over buying a +4 6ap and hopefully save some krons. Is that an economically sound call to make? it depends on your relationship with the blacksmith. however, if we analyze this in the business and SoS perspective, the "logic" you implied might not be so convincing to some of the ambitious warriors in the game. we all know that xens failed like autumn leaves, and my experience as well as many of the high level xen adicts in this game is that it will take on the average around 15 xens to get the weapon to +5; i used over 20 on the blade and still can't get it to +5. my experience in the game is that high level players don't even buy xened 4ap gears unless it has really high plusses, the sword is no exeption. If you look at the market lately, people only look for 6ap gears and is willing to pay big for a flat one. so, what will you do with your +5 4ap sword that you spent 15 xens on after you reached 112? sell it for 20m? when i first played SoS, 4ap gear were more acceptable than it is today. each flat 4ap fetch around 400k back then, high level 4ap warrior gears worth as much as what the npc clerk will pay nowaday. a 6ap blade worth about 3m when i turned warrior, it's 20m now. so, historically speaking, it's always better to invest in gold than copper cause gold only increase in value and don't rust.

about the shield, the warriors i know do not look at it as just 1 defense point. They all take pride in the gears they dress their characters and are willing to spend good krons for the gears they want.

Agreed. It is a matter of personal preference, and for me, at least, I place a huge premium on 6ap and 3ap (as opposed to 4ap or 2ap); and yeah, I'd be willing to pay 25m+ for 6ap gear while I wouldn't even think of buying or using 4ap equivalents. I take pride in my chars' gears (especially if that char is a tank), and I don't want to run around in 4ap stuff, even if I'm the only one that sees it. There's not much to spend krons on in this game besides gears, so why not go all out?

Not to mention, with a +4/6ap gear, I can xen it to +5, but I would be far more hesitant to try to go from +5/4ap to +6. Even if I could xen it successfully, the returns on a 4ap gear is much more risky.
