i like to think that PvP is a good game feature but so far all i have heard in the forums about PvP are:

"PvP is only good for when your higher lvl"
"PvP is splitting the community"
"PvP is ruled by mindless jerks"
"PvP just plain sucks"

so i ask is PvP in this game really that bad?

PvP are supposed to be friendly player vs player fights. It is so in many games i have played but "friendly" doesnt seem to apply to PvP here.

i want to know what you guys really think about PvP, lets make this a productive thread people. :D

lets control the whining ;)

Pro's
- a place where you can actually hit other players.
- a place where you can release stress whether from the endless grinding or the blacksmith's incompetence in his chosen trade.
- a place where our guild was able to gang up on our guild leader. but still couldn't kill him.

Con's
- a place where overcompensating people tend to gravitate to
- no tiered pvp rooms.
- its not shaped like an octagon to have a UFC-feel. hehehehe...

I've come to look at PvP in this game as somewhat exemplary of free PvP systems in general, only surprisingly much more civilized, most likely as a result of it having been closed PvP for so long.

If you think of free PvP from a very general game standpoint, it's MEANT to be provocative and challenging. You have players literally given a chance to attack and kill each other with more or less no regulation. Especially in a virtual world setting, people are going to take the opportunity for better or worse, be it to test their strengths or boost their own egos; that's just basic PvP

So what makes PvP different in SoS?
Well, many players remember when PvP wasn't even open, and enjoying it meant not dying and keeping the healers alive so that others could enjoy it too. In addition to that, our community is still small enough such that basic courtesies and respects are still observed by a good portion of us. That's why some people get as upset as they do when something happens in PvP that they don't like. First there's the natural human reaction of basically getting dissed, then there's the "violation" of the "unspoken community code."

Fact of the matter is, free PvP is really a good game feature that everyone should enjoy in their own way, but there is still a lot of preconceived ideas about PvP that are somewhat hard set into the community that will take time to break. Certainly the current instability of both the game's leveling curve and the general frustration of the community really doesn't help matters at all.

I think in time though, IF the game moves on *smoothly* PvP will eventually fade from something so highly debated and contested into...basically PvP in any other game >_>;;
