What do you guys think? It's still a major work in progress and a lot needs to be cleaned up. My friend is working up an image to actually put in the background as well, but what would you say about this version of it???

I'd prefer actual opinions please, no flames :D

The backgound...
it's fine but it's a simple image with writing that's been embosed, you have alot to do yet if it's to be logo.

Also, whats that word behind the image? I can't see it, not sure if your ment to be able to or not but still.

The words behind the image itself are "Elite Clan", that's not permanent though, it's for testing purposes only. Like I said, there's going to be an image in the background, but it's going to be layered and apparently he's going to apply some kind of mask to it all.

I'm still a noob at PS though, doing my best :D

Erase the White part, make the picture into .png format, boom, beast. 7/10

Why .png? Like, what's so great about it? Everyone always tells me to use .png instead of .jpg.

A PNG offers better file compressibility than a JPEG, just about the same depth of color as a JPEG, and the same transparency features that GIFs have all rolled into one. That's why PNG is a really good choice nowadays.

Erase the white background, and get the whole logo transparent, it looks nicer with a nice shadow effect.

What about BMP?! xP

Well I have removed the background, but I haven't found a decent amount of transparency for the logo itself. It always ends up looking like an afterthought.

BMP doesn't do transparent and makes the pictures file size way big

BMP is too large for me, it always ends up being like a 500kb file size which is ridiculous for a picture that small. The end product isn't going to be that big.

exactly. .png is your best go.
let me explain the basic image formats
JPEG - low quality, giant size, no transparency
BMP - good quality, HUGE size, no transparency
GIF - crap pixelated quality, okay size, transparency, animation avaible
PNG - excellent quality, small size, transparency, no animation though

so for banners, logos, and such, PNG is your best go.

Totally would agree

Which part being transparent though??
The background. Hide your background layer, and you'll see like a checkboard which is what you want so that it is transparent.

PNG is your way to go. Make sure when you save it you save it to have transparency though.

I decided to just drop the font in the back and just keep it simple. I'll have a buddy of mine whip up something that looks better and isn't really as lame.

Here's version 2, it has some good glows (I think) around the text and there are some gradient overlays and some satin in there as well.

Hey, I like it. But to me, I just drop the characters. 8/10

Why drop the characters?
