Last edited on: February 3rd, 2009
MMMPPHH! The sound you make when you first hit the ground in the world of Windslayer. Ah, the fresh air, the delightful music... wait a second, WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING HERE!? Don't worry, new player. This guide has got you covered!
First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bryan, I have played Windslayer since the Closed Beta of the Avocado hosted-server. I was a dedicated Archer (planned to go Beast Master) and hit level 39 and a PvP rank of around level 4 before the server closed. I hoped to the heavens that a great publisher would pick up the game... and my prayers were answered! So, for all of the new players coming to Windslayer, I have compiled a guide (along with the help of a site I contributed to, the Windslayer Strategywiki (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Wind_Slayer) to help you out! Don't worry, this guide won't be confusing at ALL. I will break it down into the simplest of terms for you! Lets get started...
Your face is buried into the luscious, natural grass. You stand up, but you don't know how to MOVE!
CONTROLS
← (Left Arrow: moves your character left.)
→: (Right Arrow: moves your character Right.)
↑: (Up Arrow: Used to jump.)
↓: (Down Arrow: Used to Jump down layers of platforms, and enter Map Portals.)
Newbie: Oh, shweet! Thanks Georgie, now I can move like Michael Johnson in the olympics!
Georgie: Not so fast... NEWBIE! You've still got to learn... the master moves.
Newbie: The... master moves!?
That's right people, the master moves!
Extra Movements:
Double tapping ← or → will cause your character to dash in that direction.

Newbie: YEEEEHAH! LOOK AT ME, I LOOK LIKE SONIC ON STEROIDS!
Georgie: Pfffffffffffffffffffffft, let's not push it. It's time for you to learn how to attack!

So, you'll encounter your first monster, usually a "Pupu". Don't worry, it'll be easy to take down with patience and focus.
Newbie: Eww, Georgie, this thing stinks....
Georgie: You've got to kill it in order to get rid of the smell!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This will usually come with some sort of quest too, so accept the quest from the nearby NPC, you'll need it!
Newbie: Agh... do I HAVE to? *files nails*
Georgie: Yes, now STOP BEING LAZY! *knocks down nail filer*
Battle Controls:

Guarding can come in handy, especially in the Battlefield. Only use it after strong hit stunning or skill stunning your enemy. (Attained at level 8 from NPC Gangdalf)
D - allows you to use your Power Attack. This attack uses the full power of the weapon equipped, but is a slow attack and leaves you open to enemy attack. You'll know when to use this, young grasshopper. >_> (Attained at level 5 from NPC Leon)

Newbie: Thanks Master Georgie! Now, can you introduce me to PvP?
Georgie: Meh, why not?
PvP
Oh, the great wonders of PvP. In Windslayer, PvP is VERY important, so for all of you bloodthirsty fighters, Windslayer is the game for you. If PvP is not your style, it's okay, the class advancement scrolls required to be purchased with Victy (the PvP-earned currency) is usually available in player markets.
In the Avocado hosted version, the only available mode was "Team Deathmatch". So that's the only version I can really explain. The other modes that were unavailable, and will hopefully be in the Outspark version are:
Capture The Flag
Free-for-all Death Match
Capture the Jewel
Joining a match
PvP can be accessed by pressing the T button, and clicking on an available room. You'll only be allowed to access the room if you follow the game's settings, for example, there is a PvP setting which only allows people who have not changed their class yet and are below level 10 to play. The other only allows people that are 10+ and have changed their class. When entering the room, you will be given the option to join a team if both of the teams are even. If the teams are not even, you will automatically be put on the team with less players. Or, you can just spectate and watch the game if you want.
PvP Settings
Level Restricted Mode:
In this mode, you can battle with the players who are about your level.
You can earn fame points according to your performance and level.
Unlimited Mode:
Without any level restriction or handicap, all players can battle with their own character
ability.
Normalized Mode
In this mode, every characters level and stats are adjusted to that of level 49’s. Under this condition, all players can enjoy the battle fairly.
Playing in a match
No, team deathmatch does NOT work like modern FPSes, if anything, it resembles the original counterstrike mode. In a round, you have one life. If you die, you will be forced to spectate until the round is over, and the winning team is declared. In PvP, the game is not measured by "points". It is measured by how many people each team has when the round ends, and chances are if it's 3v1... the team with three people will catch up with the enemy one person and kill him before the round is over. Everyone within a match is given EQUAL player levels, which is level 49, equal HP, and equal stats. You can't really complain that a match is unfair, considering that PvP is virtually fair to the largest extent. The only thing that is different (in class-changed rounds) is player classes, if you'd like to see what role your class plays in PvP, keep reading into the posts below. You CANNOT leave the game during the match, you have to be killed out of the round before being forced back to the place you accessed the game from. If you leave the game during the match (by alt+F4-ing, or leaving after a match) you will not receive the rewards your team reaps... Victy & EXP.
Newbie: Cool beans, sounds like my type of game. But what are the rewards... and WHAT is Victy?
PvP Rewards
Winning in PvP gets you Victy (you can use Victy to buy special clothing, your job advancing scroll, and more) and some EXP. Even some bragging rights! Plus, you get EXP towards your PvP rank, which is shown near your username and you can show it off to other players.
Newbie: *runs into Georgie's temple, panting* Guess what master! I'm level 10 now!
