What is a Closed Beta Test?

During a closed beta test, software is released to a group of users by invite only. When software hits open beta it becomes available to anyone.

Best thing about Outspark..... THE GMs!!!!! 90% of other games most players never even know a GMs name, let alone see that the GMs are an actual part of the community. You guys are great! Yes, people are randomly chosen to play in the CBT from what I think ;].

This is a definite must. For those of you CBTing SoS, please, PLEASE make sure that you are VERY VERY accurate with your reports as this will lead to make the game that much better when they decide to place an open beta. To all those that got invites, I congratulate you all. It was not a random situation, as some believed...and, to be honest, I'm not exactly sure how they made their decisions, but I am working on a hypothesis. Unfortunately, I've had to reconstruct said hypothesis, as my previous theory was effective, but not entirely accurate.

It is possible that the GM Rider or GM Break will get bored of the same people in-game and send out more invites...that possibilty is very slim, being that invitation-only productions usually don't last very long anyway. I'd say Open Beta should be in roughly 1 to 2 weeks. Think you can wait that long?

If not...then become a forum *****, complain a whole lot, and maybe, to get you to shut up, the GM's will let you in. Oh, and don't do that, or I'll shut you up.

Whatever the system was for sending invites it seems like they made a few mistakes. From what I hear there are many people on atm who are just rude and immature, great choice for CBT... but since they, not us, make the choices I just deal with it. And maybe if it's as bad (the players not the game) as I hear, it may be a good thing I'm not on there because people like that annoy me to no end. Why do CBT if you arent there to make the game better is beyond me, it doesnt make you better than anyone else, especially when you act like an idiot about it. *sigh* yes I am disappointed but life goes on and there are many other games I do test for so yea.... *cheesecake anyone?* ^.^

Closed beta is definately a previledge and not something to be taken for granted. Closed beta testers are the ones who help make the game better for all in the future by giving the designers the input and advice of a smaller audience so that they can take the time to adress them more accurately.

I suppose you shouldn't give up hope though.

And how long to OB: Typically CBT lasts 1-2 months but unexpected things could make it last longer or shorter...

which was approximately 4 days ago, which wasn't long.
the japanese version, named xenepic online, has been out since june of 2006, though.

The client will be available to download after the test is over and Open Beta has begun or you have an invitation.

Well there are 6 classes to begin with
Fighter: High HP and strong
Rogue: Dodges and fast attacks
Mage: Nuke damage but physically weak
Archer: Long range damage and trap (maybe not sure for that one)
Acolyte: I think that ones a healer
Predicter: I don't know anything about this one >< sorry

I don't have a high knowledge cos I wanna be surprised, but I'm gonna be a warrior

Well at the top of the page there are link- Options FAQ and so on
Click on options one of them and this should take you to your control panel

From there, click on edit signature on the side and you should have a box, like a post to type in

Type in what you would do at the end of a post into that (whatever)

That should be all.

Well there are 6 classes to begin with
Fighter: High HP and strong

Technically there are 4 main classes and two of them have a branching class.

The 4 main classes are:
1. Fighter
2. Rouge
3. Mage
4. Acolyte


These all have 3 additional class upgrades once you reach the correct level.

The Rouge and the Acolyte have an additional class branch. The rogue has Archer and the Acolyte has Predictor. Once you reach a certain level when you're a Rogue or an Acolyte you can branch to this class structure instead. You give up being in the previous class but you get the unique skills instead.

Umm I only had the chance to test up to lvl 12 and so far the only complaint is the quests. Like for instance, it tells people to go to one area first and switch something out and than go somewhere to talk to someone. Ok now I was confused at first than I got it, it was meant to be the other way around. The way the quests are worded and there is a huge grammer errror but hey no one is perfect. As far as I have tested umm I get stuck alot near east side area near the gaurds for some reason. I have to really look into it before I can come up with a fix. But that all for now, I will try to be on more often, my schedule is being changed from days to swing so ill be on less. lol God i hope not.

I don't know if I got lucky or what, but I just happened to see a link to SoS on the homepage of another mmorpg I play - I clicked the link, and BAM! It seems I found a magical invite, I guess - I dl'd & played SoS no problem - the dl & install DID take quite a bit of time - about an hour & a half altogether.
About the only complaint I have so far is (as mentioned previously by other CBT's) the spelling & grammar. It makes it a bit more difficult when puzzling out the quest info; but still a worthwhile game.
And for any of you who didn't get invites, feel free to PM me your email address, and I'll send you an invite. (I can just SEE the flood of messages I'm going to get! lol)

The game will be released to the public, in time though. It is just a game test, to work out bugs, glitches, typos, etc. Don`t worry about not ever being able to play, just wait a few weeks until OBT comes or until ur invited :D

Hello to all, I'm new to Outspark and also new to the forums. I was having problems navigating around the site and also on what to do in order to play the game. Finally was able to go to the download area and got stuck, because no matter how many times I clicked on Client nothing came up. So I came in here and started to read all the entries that are in here and got a better picture of whats going on and what is closed beta testing and stuff. I think I can wait until its Open Beta, I think I rather wait instead of playing the closed beta. I read that when it's open to the public you lose your character and have to start over. Playing the game all that time then at the end to have to start all over, that ain't cool. Yea, so I guess I'll wait till it's public and try not to look at my sister with envy because she just downloaded the game and is now playing :rolleyes: But I'm happy for her and all the other members that are having fun, playing and helping out finding errors and reporting. They are making the game better for the rest of us. Hope the best to players and non-players.

gunz was made by ijji, who bought Gunbound from softnyx, and ruined it. im not playing any of their games to see how little work they put into a game they bought compared to one that they didnt buy.

Apparently, I'm a glitch too since I just registered and DL'd the client before wandering over to the forums for some more in depth information. From what I am seeing, despite having the client, I will patiently await an invite since I really don't want to bugger up the closed beta.

Having done the RO beta myself, I agree, they look a lot alike which is no bad thing in my opinion. RO was so funny in beta, poporings everywhere and not a quest to be found....

Anyway, politefully requesting an invite for the cbt and lingering in my email for anything inre to that. ;)

i don't know if you're breaking any rules by playing anyway, and i don't really care. my first post on this thread was in response to someone saying 'closed beta' doesn't mean it's invite only. normally it does. if you are playing without invite, personally, i would probably enjoy it, and keep my mouth shut about it. or, on the other hand, you could take the honest route and pm a gm asking if it's okay.

Well, the reason to have Beta's is to find where the problems are in the system. This seems to be working out so far. And I figure that those people who got in from a glitch will either be deemed to be part of the closed beta test and asked to report any bugs/glitches that they find, or they will be politely told that they were not invited but will be told when they can play. Or (in the worst case) they will just be punted by the GM's, have the front door slammed in thier face, and then start complaining about the game (with reason). But we will see what happens. Probably right here in this thread.

Actually, there should be a place to report all known bugs further down in the main forums, http://www.outspark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=49 , and as for the playing without an invite... Closed Beta's are meant to be played by a few selected people, much like a jury. Anyone can be picked... but you can't just meander onto the bench and become a Juror... In other words, you shouldn't be able to play without an invite...

Just wait, like the rest of us, for open beta. Think of it this way: At least open beta will have substantially less bugs, so you'll be able to play in a better environment. ^^

You know what, me too. Out of excitement of finding a good, free Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game, I signed up and downloaded. And, as I patiently wait for it to load, I browse through the forums and realize that it is in closed beta testing. It would be very, very surprising to be able to play as the download finishes. Hmm, if your enjoying this game then a wipe is not a problem... Wipe or not you'll surely still play if you really like the game... Look on the bright side, all of use will be equal for a while... And you'll be leveling fast again... ^^

Well, dont thing it's that easy, cause i used to play RO a lot, i love that game, but i stopper playing cause the server where i was playing with my friends is now over, then we tried again in others 2 or 3 servers, always making a new char, lvling all over again but we didnt find a good one to stay, always found some problems then we quit....and i got tired of that and stop playing RO because of that, thats why i dont wanna do it again...do all it again, its not that easy...=/

Accounts are being flagged, thats the official terminology, as ok to play. Glitch does not quite explain it. Its like going to a baseball game and saying they scored a touchdown. Its not completely accurate.

SoS uses RO's game engine, which uses sprites for not world objects. This includes objects tagged as NPCs, Mobs, Players. Basically they are just animated 2d textures, while the world is built on simplistic 3d models.

Closed Beta's and Open betas are testing periods for a game. Not all games do both, but most have at least one beta. Closed Beta means only certain people can play (in this case, those who recieved an invite) but an open beta means its open to the public.

A beta is designed to allow players to find the bugs within the game in order for the GM's to fix them.
I doubt you'll have to wait to long for an open beta but there is no official date yet.
