Yeah you need .NET for the Outspark games lately, that's why I quit playing too and just lurk around the forums anymore. ^^'
Maybe you can do some research or check the troubleshooting forums. .NET is by Microsoft and I am not sure how it would interfere with Microsoft Update (formerly known as Windows Update). The purpose of the .NET framework is for including libraries for the developer to quickly build and release applications to the public. Most if not all Outspark games run on the .NET framework.

Ian is correct.
The .NET Framework is a helpful tool used by many game developers and publishers. Installing it will not negatively affect your computer or interfere with other Microsoft updates.

Yeah, I would completely agree with saphar.

You guys apparently have no idea how much the microsoft 'programs' can mess up your windows.
Microsoft programs are dangerous. Last time I tried to install .NET my whole computer didn't want to boot up anymore. The automatic windows updates are no better, one from update, and the computer is done for. And if you use an IE you'll have a virus the next day for sure.
I just refuse to install any microsoft programs other than the basic Windows XP installation, because I've only experienced problems with them. That's why I can't play Outspark games anymore either.
Besides... no other MMORPG company requires you to install game-unrelated programs.
Especially .NET that's so complicated to install that even I as computer science student has problems with all the "Now that you downloaded this you have to download that and that" microsoft way of installing. ><
I wonder how all the kids managed to install it to begin with. Is there an easier setup for it by now? ^^'

It's not game-unrelated programs at all. It obviously is related to the game if it is needed to play.
As said about, the installation of Microsoft Framework 2.0 will not hurt your system. If you've only experienced problems with OFFICIAL Microsoft programs I would think that there's something you're doing wrong rather then there being a problem with Microsoft.

Nope, it's because all the Microsoft stuff is buggy as hell, including Windows.
It IS game-unrelated, though, because the other versions don't require it. It's only needed for the Outspark launcher as far as I know.
There's more to installing the .NET framework, because to install it you first need SP2 and like 3 other update files. New service packs usually disable / enable windows services without asking you. Some of those can mess up your computer if you have certain programs running in the background that depend on them. The other update files then again need other setups first. It can take like weeks until you got them all. So even if you manage not to destroy your computer with it, you'd still have to go through all that bothersome stuff and install lots of stuff and if it's important to you which services are enabled/disabled on your computer you need to read all the documentation of the changes as well. No way I go through all this trouble, just to play a few MMORPGs when there are hundreds out there that don't require it.
