I'm not the tank...that's the squire. Not the healer....aco. Not the mage or the rogue...so, what exactly is my role?

My scout is geared toward party play....I have an agi, pow, men build that I am working on. In the party concept, I have my own vision. Preferably two squires (or 1 squire and a rogue or a neo) 1 mage, 2 (or 3) acos and me. The squires, rogues or neos are pretty stable....bash, slash and pound mercilessly. The acos buff, heal, and attack when able. The mage for extra firepower...so, what is my role?

My concept of the scout is to act as the quarterback of the battlefield. It's my job to know where everybody in the party is, and what they are doing. I designate targets for the squires, et. al. I provide extra firepower when needed. I stall additional mobbing monsters. I cover the acos and the mage. I pull monsters off of other players if they are getting overwhelmed, so in essence, I manage the fight. It is quite interesting to see. When I first turned scout, I tried to fight like my neo...very linear. As I have adjusted to my scout, my screen is now a jumble of constant spinning, moving, and shifting views. I watch the fight that I'm participating in, I have a zoomed out view to watch for anything else coming, and one eye is always trained on the HP and MP of other players (kinda like an aco) to figure out where the backup is needed.

So, that is my concept of a scout. How do you play yours?

Archers do pretty awesome, fast damage, so we're like the big guns of non-aoe parties. In addition, I play as a protecter to the other ranged party members and the healers from stray aggros. I can also take some heat off of a tank that's taking too much damage with stone, snake, and bramble if needed.

Aoe parties are different. I need to cover the healer as they follow the tank, and then assist-aoe using bramble, ret trap x2, running, and repeating.

It's very different rly lol between when you are scout and when you are an archer.
As a scout, you have the ability to deal high damage from a far away distance and blah blah blah. so what you are doing right now is pretty good :O
But when you become archer and your build starting to kick in, that's when thing get interesting. When you're an archer, you can hit fast, dealing incredible damage and able to combine different move. So you become an all rounder lol.
In party, you are the main atker of the party, beside the mage/wizzard. You choose the monster that is gonna be ganged, and you pretty much lead the party's direction; unless you're in aoe party of course. Other than that you also have the ability to use different skill very rapidly and quickly, so you're also looking out for the party as a whole, especially the healer. With stone edge and snake shot at your command, you can stop the monster from atking the healer much quicker than any other class. Although stone edge have a timer so your reaction and time management skill is also needed here hehe. Other than that you also have bramble way, which is very useful to make multiple enemy that is atking your party slow down, giving a chance to kill them one by one. Or you can lure the monster that is atking the healer close to the monster you are currently atking, bramble and therefore lock it there and prevent it from atking anyone. This is the last option if your stone edge and snake shot is on cool down xD.
Time management is crucial when you are an archer, as archer atk very fast and if you have time management skill all laid down, you can move between monster very quickly. Archer is strong and fun to play, but it takes a lot of practice and experience to become a good archer. Given just a good bow and wind blow spam your day away won't do any good lol.

I agree with Sora* on this topic. Most times when I decide to PT(not very often anymore damn my need to AoE!), but I normally ankle binded our next monster and brought it to the group. Even when I was slightly underleveled for Loren PTs I still did a good amount of damage. Another good thing that you can start to do when you get into 71+ range is you can be a binder in AoE. Meaning that you and a app alternate between frost and brambleway, and start unloading AoE. I've also seen a scout/archer assist AoEing where you brambleway the mob fire reticle trap 2-3 times and then get out of LoS, so they move back to the tank. I made the mistake of not paying attention the first time I assisted and got myself killed(boo for forgetting to equip my 7% pendant).
