First off, I hate these threads. Secondly, I said I'd do it, so here she is:

I was hunting in burning hill tonight when I kill a baby bat and it drops a piece of EQ. My inventory was full (no free slots) so I paused a second to view my inventory to hunt for the most worthless piece to trade for my shiny new EQ.

I dump some crushed bones (I don't have potions) and look back on the ground for my EQ that was mixed with the other junk loot on the ground and it was gone. In it's place is this 'warrior' from the Slayer clan (sorry if I'm misrepresenting you guys, I don't know ya, so hate no hate intended to you as a guild), WolfDragon. I ask him why he's so greedy, tell him that wasn't his to take.

His retort was something along the lines of "Don't be a little b*tch or this will get physical". ok, that's odd. Well two things were odd, I say 'along the lines' because his spelling was atrocious. Granted, I'm not PhD, but I do have a degree. I'm also an adult. I don't 'get physical' unless my family is in harm's way or I'm in the ring.

I reply to him that he's a crappy thief and a worse speller. He had more pointless wit to share, which I regret i could not understand. I then explained to him that I don't care to 'get physical' as a) in game, I'd destroy him. b) I'm a grown man. I explained my given scenarios for fighting.

I won't even go into how threatening bodily harm on another player in game is in reality (i.e. what we do away from the keyboard) a chargeable offense in the eye of the law (Guess what I do for a living, smart guy?).

I don't particularly care if this particular incident goes unpunished, as I was too hasty to come here and 'make him famous' as I had alluded to, instead of getting my screen shots for evidence.

So, if you see him out 'in the world' be sure to keep one eye on your loot and the other on his hidden hand. It could very be hiding the very dagger he intends for your back when he makes it "pyszcal".

Good job, genius. Next time you might want to ask before you come rolling in like you're someone. You got a PoS +6% poison resist necklace. Yay you. I made you famous.

WolfDragon. Member of Slayer(s?) guild. Thief. Uneducated child.

(For the record, I'm a 32 year old, degree holding, professional in the Law Enforcement community - Former US Marine of 8 years, and still practice martial arts 4 nights a week to keep my cardio up. Feel free to say that garbage to my face *any* day of the week. Better pack a lunch and bring your friends though.)

I am 25 yr old Veteran- 6 and a half years Army, worked with Marine's in Iraq and they taught me alot. Pulled security mostly for M.I. Anywho, this post made my night and is something that I agree with. The problem is once these children log into the game, they are tough guy's. They have no discipline and that's what is spiralling our communities down the drain. If you create a guild Rustic count me in. *looks around for Army buds* Semper Fi bro and don't kill me in-game for being Army and saying that. Take care.

If you have walked the walk, you have my blessing and thanks.

If you've been there, you know exactly what I mean.

Semper Fi, brother.

(I know a great joke about Army vs. Marines, find me in game and I'll tell it to you. You'll appreciate the urinary humor, I'm sure. Besides, I don't hate on Army dogs, they get shot at just like a Marine, they just don't shoot as well back.)

Sad story, very sad. I'll be half / half in my answer:

1) Once items become public, anyone can pick it up. Nothing you can do about that. It is your responsibility to ensure your inventory have sufficient space to cary your items.

2) Answering with insulting language have just no place in the game, especially when you arn't aggressive in the 1st place.

I agree. However, it's common courtesy not to ****** it right from under the player. And it had *just* gone public when he grabbed it. And to be honest, it's not the item that bugs me, it's the arrogance and rudeness that really lit my fire.

2) Answering with insulting language has just no place in the game, especially when you aren't aggressive in the 1st place.

Common courtesy goes a LONG way. In a microcosm (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/microcosm) such as an MMO, especially one this small, being a jerk can be amplified if you do it to the wrong people.

This happened to me during a treasure hunting event a while back. I had a nice ring, some potions, a mini pet and some various upgrade stones on the ground. I didn't know the event was going to take place and thus my inventory was pretty full. While I was dropping what I needed to, somebody snatched my mini-pet and ring. I've pretty much gotten over it now, but there should be a longer time limit on loots esp rarer stuff like pets, accessories and equipment.

:D Especially when you mess with the Dragonslayer clan that seems to be forming. :D

Guess an anti-thieving guild would be nice......count me in :)

P.S. I'm not military, but have nothing but respect for you guys.

I pickup random crap on the ground all the time. Its just junk to sell to the vendors (i'm poor) or stuff people forgot. I guess if I picked up something "good" i'd broadcast that I found xxx on the ground, was it anyones".

It's a little different pickin up abandoned stuff....also if you broadcast asking if xx good item was someone's ....there would most likely be a liar in the area sayin yes....

I get that, but in the quoted situation, this guy rolls up on me where I was alone and just starts filling his pockets. If it was something like that bloody bones I always manage to snag, I wouldn't mind. But shiny things are always a boon.

Either way, it's low class to do that, regardless of who you are. As a nub, I get it. You don't have jack squat to start out with and if you've learned that pick up object is bound to your #2 key initially before anyone of the other nubs, so be it.

Burning Hills is NOT a nub area (1-10 is what I'm defining as nub/newbie/new player). That kind of behavior is belligerently and willfully criminal. The clown knew it and even told me "if you're going to make such a big deal out of it take it back". You know, that 5 minutes of my life wouldn't have been wasted on raising him if someone else had done it right the first time, I guess. I dunno.

I don't loot jack people and expect the same in return. If not, I'm gonna try to make you famous or join your enemies in an oppositional guild just so I can dance on your corpse repeatedly.

WHOA! I wasn't defending the theif that is the cause of this thread.... I was just telling bandor here that as long as he wasn't taking things out from under people that it's okay. Even in higher areas, if something is sitting there and noone appears to be near it, I'll take something that's just gonna disappear anyway.

The guy in your scenario was an example of everything a true gamer ISN'T
As well as SOOOO many of my own experiences in MMOs
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thus began the noobie guidebook

in a mmo I used to play, I chased a guy for several hours to get back stuff
I foolishly decided to place on the ground to store the stuff on another character (there was no safe way to do it at the time... IE storage chest didnt exist)
Got back into the game just in time to see it disappear and a guy leaving.

He knew it was mine, he knew why I placed it there.I followed him for a while and kept trying to get him to return it offering money or anything I could give...he finally made an offer....took all the money I had and had to borrow some from a friend TO GET MY OWN STUFF back.....

Trust me I feel your pain....it's not so much about what was taken as the audacity of it all....and partially about the stuff

So many kids think they're hot stuff when behind a computer because they believe they are anonymous. Those of who've been around the last 20+ years in computers can tell you that is far from the truth.

If you think threatening someone in a game gives you a bigger winky, then by all means.. pretend away. The truth is once the computer is turned off and stepped away from, you're just a little kid heading to school to get picked on.
