im new so if i may not be right..
i think itd be good in conjunction with other skills. for instance, u can make leathers that can be used for scroll making and spirit fruit that can be used in potion making.

It depends on what use you want to get out of it.
If you want to be able to make things for yourself to use in battle, then you'll probably be wanting potion or scroll production.
If you're wanting to make finished products to sell you'll probably want stone production or scroll production.
But if you're looking to sell materials then it'd be right for you. It might be not worth the effort though, since you can farm materials to sell from monsters as drops instead of using a skill. That way you can save your money to buy skills that will fully benefit you.

I'd say scroll production and potion production are the most useful. Make a seperate character for stone production if you want. I haven't tried the other 2 however.
Here's the ingrediesnt (not exact i think) for the certain items.
Scrolls:
Aim scroll: 3 torn leather, 2 summoned beast leather (low quality).
Defence scroll: 1 torn leather, 2 summoned beast leather (low quality).
Curse dispell scroll: 2 torn leather, 2 summoned beast leather (low quality).
Those are the first ones you can make untill you get 300 scroll exp i believe.
Potions:
HP potion: 2 tough meat, 1 spirit fruit (low quality)
SP potion: 1 tough meat, 1 magic crystal (low quality)
I forget the antidote ingredients. Antidote removes poisons and illnesses.
