You only get the shield's defense bonus if you're blocking with it, which makes it pretty useless, because in almost every situation it's better to try and avoid a hit than to block it.

You can't fully block anything other classes can't also block, and the shield doesn't reduce the damage of a strong attack or skill enough to make it worth using, really.

You would rather take a rogues stun or poison to the face? OR. you can block it. I unno mister, hard decision to make thar. Also, you would be surprised how much you would want to block someones small attack that can be used in quick sucsession (ITT Rogues)

Well if you trade hits in pvp, youll always get the less ammount of damage taken,

You can take the brunt of the hit while blocking then slowly move in for a throw in PVP. That's one basic thing to do with guard.

Sure, the shields def doesn't give much help now in STD PvP but when people atcually have shields at lv 50 to compensate for the level 49 dmg getting thrown at them, it should have more of an effect. That is, of course, my hypothesis. ;)
