Now I played for some hours and have my 2nd "classed" character.
First of all, the graphics sometimes look a bit old schooö- Nothing really bad and it's not always the case. What seems a bit weird is while turning the camera your char sits straight until suddendly turns 1/8. Looks kinda hard. The sound is all right, even though it give you more "action feeling" than really is occuring.
What seems to happen really fast is you get "lost" after the first 10 levels, not knowing what to do now, when you ran the introduction course. The areas are not organized in any way, so you can't say "Let's go to field A for quests in my level" but have to talk to everyone, to see if there is any and if you can make it. This way it can be hard to get the feeling of a real living world, without any thread to guide you through the begnings and make you think you have to grind your way through the game. Some storyline, or charakter interaction would be a nice improvement.
What really puzzled me was the feeling of a frop in power level after job change, at least for cleric and rogue. I expected to have about the same power level with a light increase and some skills. But now I have to spam special attacks with my rogue, where as a Xen I used one or two. Nothing about incresead dodge or anything. As a cleric you have the problem of not being able to quick select yourself. Usually in most games this is done via F-keys, where F1 is you and the following Fs your party, but SoS has the shortcuts there. Healing can become a hassle and is far to weak. 30 heal (potion or cleric) is about 1/10th of your HP if you're unlucky, not really helping.
Questing can be a tiome sink, too. Those letters take ages and the mobs could use a slight increase in their drop rates of quest items. camping 15 cherries is no fun, if it takes hours, for example. Perhaps a !Quest flag" could be done, so the drop for the quest item increases (example: Fiesta, where you only get quest stuff when you have the specific quest). I almost spent a whole level right now and have one whole cherry. Yay!
So a little more introduction into the game/ game world would be nice, too. The beginners quests show you around nicely, but purely in game mechanics, not into the world or the game itself. They give you a feel about the layout and how things are done, but not what you can do, where you are, who you are and so on. This could use some tweaking.Even the general drop rates of stuff could use some extra, because you kill about 20 mobs without dropping anything at all sometimes. This gives you a feeling of just klling for Exp, without achieving anything. No biggies needed, just something to give you a feeling of conquering something. ;)
As in Fiesta there are loads of typos. Ever noticed that in the letter quest you are looking at two "he"s, while Peter is talking about her, when you reach her you read about "he" is doing this and that, for example. ;)But those are minor issues, that we are here to discover.
One thing that annoys me and seems to have to do with the install of the SoS launcher: I can't get into Fiesta anymore, but that's another story. Seems to be some conmflict in having both installed...
Ok, enough badmouthing...
Good sides ^^
A lot of stats, you could explain some of them at least (short description for example), but nice to have some choices. The graphics fit the feeling of the game, though sometimes they look a tad too dark and the interface is easy to get into. I only wish for a mouse sensiticity option, since it moves too slow for my taste.
It's easy to learn and fun, I guess also for casual gamers. Login, go out, hunt, look for skills and so on.
So overall a nice game, with potential and interesting to see which direction it takes. Keep it going and tweaking, even things like customization and stuff. ^^
