You wouldn't happen to have an Nvidia vid card would you? I had similar trouble with my buddy's computer and he had an Nvidia card...Don't recall exactly what card though. The screen would be fine, and then would turn black and have different shaped gray specks like it was trying to show the color but couldn't.

He had the latest drivers installed, but this was about two years ago. End result was that the drivers weren't working right and after some research I found out that Nvidia's drivers weren't being certified by Microsoft for about 2-3 years straight...I believe it's refered to as WQHL certified. I found and installed the most recent WQHL certified drivers for the card and everything worked perfectly.

I'm not trying to bad mouth Nvidia, they really do make great cards. I just recently built myself a new comp and put one in. Downloaded and installed the most recent drivers and all works great and DirectX Diagnostics says they're good to go. Everyone is entitled to a bad run sometimes. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to write a graphics driver that needs to be compatible with all the different hardware and software out there today.

Regardless of the brand of card you have, try the most recent drivers. If that's a no-go, try and get ahold of the most recent WQHL certified drivers. Best of luck to you.

More than likely, either your video card doesn't meet the minimum game requirements or you driver is old.
