99.9% of the games out there do, just remember the purpose of CB is for them to work out the bugs and for people to get a general idea of what the game will be like. Consider this a learning experience.

Likely or not, it's not something beta testers should be worrying about. Your priority, in playing, is to test the game for bugs in graphical, mechanical, and gameplay issues rather than trying to make the best characters possible. Seriously, you should be trying out all sorts of combinations to see how they work and to try to coax more bugs out of the game, be they bad character combinations, good ones, or mediocre.

With that in mind, a character wipe wont matter. All that matters is that the testers find the majority of the bugs so that the development team can work them out for the future patches and versions of the game.

I've done CB for all types of MMOs but it never fails about ppl wondering if they will wipe prior to OB. I honestly think most if not all games should do a wipe from cb->ob->retail. players should be happy just to get a chance to play the game early. Being a testers gives 1 huge advatage in that you will have a basic knowledge on builds, lvling, and not to mention meet some in game friends that you can pt with once the game is released.

Oh well just concentrate on finding bugs and send in suggestions to help the devs make this game a success. leave the question about character wipes to the guys that have the power to do so.

well if there isn't a wipe isn't it unfair to the people that didn't get into closed beta? =P
but then again.. its just open beta and its not that important i guess?

I have only ever seen one game go from Open Beta to live, without a wipe.

From closed beta's, alpha's, players need to be wiped especially when there is a major update to the game, so that they can verify changes have no bugs.

So here is the rule of thumb.... Expect wipes before live and hope they don't role back after that!

From CB=>OB there will be a whipe 100%
From OB=>Retail there won't be any wippes. (100% of the games i've played didn't have them)

not likely there is a wipe, and its not that bad if CB people get a headstart. they will have more knowledge be able to explain things easyer. and new players will probably get freebies like they allways do in every game by some person thats high lvl. but who cares, if it does happen the CB players were not in the game to lvl and play there chars, if it does some people will get pissed off having to start again.
