To Suicidal: Think about it, the world was slated to end in 2000 so why would people be predicting events afterward. Now they're saying 2012, so if thats true, why would someone make a judgement day prediction about 2019? Who do you believe, and what proof can they give you? Usually its little, if any proof beyond 'faith'.

In recorded history, the Earth has never been hit by a comet. In fact, we know of only one actual comet strike in Earth's history. Meteors are very common. Several thousand pieces of debris enter the atmosphere every day but are too small to leave the popular 'shooting star' trail.

That is true. The sun is only a G-type dwarf star. It does not have the mass, fuel, or the heat to produce a supernova when it reaches the end of its life. However, it will go red giant when it no longer has the mass to contain all the pressure of the used up gases. It's diameter will expand to swallow up Mercury, Venus, and the Earth. But seeing as the Sun has half of its fuel left before it even starts burning its helium ash, we don't have to worry about that for a long time.

As you say, this is not exactly a believable story... A meteor will crash into the sea, an evil beast will emerge and kill the human race... Does that seem logical? I am not saying that it isn't possible, but if there is a beast in a meteor, why would he want to destroy the human race? There are millions of oter races, so why do we think we are so special? Look at who wrote these things before you believe them.

And also, about the world ending in 2012... It is not a myth, but the full truth has not been told about it. Scientists have been studying asteroids that are near earth, for years. This particular asteroids' orbit has been getting closer and closer to ours over the years and is supposed to hit us, BUT it may not. From the research that has been done on the chance or % that it will hit us, there is 36% chance that it will hit us indirectly and an 11% chance that it will hit us directly. Even if the meteor hits us, it is not big enough to take out the entire human race, let alone earth, and the earth is about 76% water, so what are the chances of it even hitting an urban residence? People have just elaborated on this information making it seem like the apocalypse is because they have nothing better to do than to cause panic.

Guys, this is not a story but a fact of life.
In 2012 comet( cannot recall her name) will fly 100 000 kilometers from Earth and that will be closest (so far) meeting whit space object in earth history.
After this that comet will make turn around our sun and return to space around 2021... HOWEVER there is rather big chance that orbit of Earth and those comet will meet eachother (observations in 2012 will be crucial for any future prediction of that comet course).
Current estimated impact point is located at Mexican Bay and aftermath prognosis of that impact looks rather grim... (back to stone age in other word).
