Well damn, why aren't they bringing out Dead Rising on the PS3? They should have made it for people who play PS3? Why aren't they bringing out Halo3 on the PS3 and Wii?
But serious... I think it boils down to different coding systems (Mac.. PC.. Linux.. etc etc). I don't have a lot of knowledge but I think that it would mean they'd have to unify the code to work together in one world.

Before asking for a mac release, think about the amount of work it involve and Outspark's found. You'll deduce that it isn't worth the troubles.
Video game industry cost a lot nowaday, it would be a pure waste of money if every game had a release for every existing operating systems.

It does. Developing a game is VERY OS specific. As far as i can tell outspark would have to reqrite ALL grahics, sound and most certainly network code to make it work on Mac/Linux/Amiga/whateverisleft. And if you think of it: How much work would it be compared to what writing a whole new game? The answer should be obvious. I wouldnt Count on getting a Mac Version at any time. Btw, are you running an Intel Mac or an PowerPC? If you have an Intel, why dont you simply install WindowsXP as second OS? Its kinda easy *points at his mac* and runs smoothly...

No. Writing games for or on Mac is a pain in the ***.. well ALL programming on Mac is.. anyway.
You have an intel, so go and get 'Bootcamp' from the Apple website and install it. With Bootcamp you can easily and without any problems/dangers install Windows next to you OSX so you can switch between those OSs. The emulator idea is also good, but i have yet not seen any Emulator that could emulate Windows with full DirectX environment - so must certainly this game would not run on it - as wouldnt it run fast anyway.

metal, don't listen to these *****es, macs are awesome.
the thing is, while they ARE extemely user friendly, the vast majority(read-->95%) of peole out there use a windows based OS.
From a developers standpoint, why in gods green earth would ANYONE make a game for the 5% of mac users out there? only a handful of them would ever play the game. the audience is just too small.
Then, consider: if more people started buying macs, suddenly YOU would not be "that cool mac guy" anymore. plus, more viruses would be written for macs, meaning you would have to (gasp) put anti-virus software on a mac.
i LOVE macs. but i NEVER want to see them become as popular as PC's. Do you understand? If a handful of displeased gamers it what it takes, then that's what it takes.

Sorry MyYing. I should have credited you (and your teacher) but I was too lazy to look up the rest of the post. My apologies.
nachtwind, you probably have a point there but I was thinking more along the line of the graphical aspects of game making. I know they can be done using PC as well I just thought Macs were better suited to it. I don't know really, I never had to make a game at my college before.

For graphical works i would always choose a mac before using a PC, but as far as programming is concearned it is really hard to work nowadays with Macs. Some years ago, in the late 90s it was different, but till that time much has changed and nowadays 'managed' languages seem to be more and more spreading instead of plain C/C++. And since Mac does not in any way uses any 'managed' assemblys (In other words a .Net/MONO runtime) managed programs wont run on any Mac although they use x86 CPUs now - and thats a shame. If they'd be able able to run and develop managed programs everything would be different..
Cuddles101
10-08-2007, 06:23 AM
Ah, I see. It's a shame though since Macs are real powerhouses. Maybe, one day they can update them to support those 'managing' capabilities? I'm not a wizard when it comes to these things so I don't know if that would be even possible.
By the way, I love your signature. It's so true.

If anything they need to start working on a Linux version because Eee Pc is due out this month and that is Linux OS.
It won't be long before millions of kids and students all over the world will have Linux based OS on their PCs.
As for Mac,,,, eahhhh.
I like the OS but it is not really popular as a gaming platform as was previously mentioned however it is should be easy to run Linux based programs on Mac OS.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Just my opinion.

Linux is not Linux is not Mac ;0)
Right, porting between Linux and Mac is easier than porting from Windows to Mac (most of the time) but because of the structure of Linux even porting from one Linux to another one, even from one system to another CAN be pretty hard, not to mention the amount of work needed to rewrite a program done under linux to run under Mac. Sure OSX IS 'only' an other linux in its core, but the core is so fundamentaly changed, that it is hard to see it as Linux. Though all the base frameworks like OpenGL and Co work on all three platforms its still no easy task to write for all three. And since we have the easy fact that this game runs DirectX we face the problem that it is based upon a library that is absolutely not available neither in linux nor in Mac ;0)
