View Full Version : Chronicles of Bijou: The End of an Era and the Winds of Change

It’s truly rare that many of us get to witness history of any kind. Whether it’s true life or even in this make-believe world of ours. I feel that I’ve been fortunate enough to be put into a position where I’m able to document this history and have good-standing enough that people will listen and read with interest and take my words to heart. As many of you know, the doors to NoMercy have been closed. Whether that closing is permanent or temporary is unknown at this point, but the fact still remains. One of Bijou’s truly historical guilds has been shelved.
While I cannot say that I was around at the beginning of the guild’s inception, nor did I ever garner any aspirations to be a part of it, I did find myself lucky enough to become a central figure within its ranks and be forever linked to this guild’s history. When I joined NoMercy back in March of 2008, it was with a little bit of apprehension. I didn’t really know anybody there on a personal level and most of its members were near or had reached the 79 level cap for sometime, some of its core members even establishing themselves in the Legends of Isya contest. The knowledge base was incredible, the generosity between members admirable, and the sense of family prominent. My reservations withdrew over time and I found myself truly feeling that I belonged. I was truly proud to wear the NoMercy banner above my head and made it a point to never bring dishonor upon its name.
Since the dissolution of NoMercy this past week, many of our members have gone to either ValiantHonor or Chocolate, while some have moved on to other guilds as well. As for myself, I’m conflicted. I never would have thought that I would be in a situation like this. As the saying goes, “you never realize what you truly have until it’s gone”. Truer words can’t be said. I’ve waivered between joining my guild mates in one of the aforementioned guilds or joining other prominent guilds. But instead of either option, I decided to just kind of do my own thing for the time being. At this point, the NoMercy tag is really the only one I want to wear and be associated with. It is a part of me down to the core. It is part of my identity.
I talked with a friend today about this, explaining that while I have no disrespect to his guild or any other guild that would accept me, I just wouldn’t have that same sense of pride that I did while being a part of NoMercy. Seeing another guild name above my head just doesn’t feel right. NoMercy isn’t something I created, but it is something I nurtured. That hole in my heart isn’t easily patched.
It’s ironic that in our last days, I advised our departing guild mates to see this situation as an opportunity and a challenge more than a disappointment. I urged them to aspire to leave their own mark in Bijou. To establish their own legacy. To leave that footprint in the sand together. So why is it so difficult for me to take my own advice?

Nice post lace. But im afraid your not the only person that feels that way. Many of us do, many of us are still asking why this had to happen. But in every life (in game or not) things happen, change is inevitable. To me as much as i didnt want too, life throws you curves. You can do 1 of 2 things, go over the edge or turn the wheel. Im not ready to go over the edge. So I turned my wheels. Only time will tell where the road goes. But I welcome anyone who wishes to join me as I find out. R.I.P NoMercy.

Having quit the game, I don't occasionally wander around here anymore, but I've heard about the dissolution of NoMercy.
I don't know what to think about this: it's sad that one of the most epic guilds on the server, which i really respected, is now closed, but it might be a new step for the future, a change needed.
I truly understand when you say it's hard to continue without your old tag - I felt the exact same way - some people can move on to other guilds, but some can't.
As for me, I couldn't move on.
As for you, I hope if you move on and have fun :)

Nice touching post faytee.
As far as i'm concerned, i remembered NoMercy since Viagra establised it, and i was one of the first few players. Along with Phan, DemonEyeKyo, MaxiMillianwill, RieLz, Licht, all of the few friends tt i used to have until i took a super super long break, and all of them were gone. I stayed on as i'm growing in love with this guild, and proud to hold this tag above me too. But sometime its not what we chose, even you, Finalizer both are one of my bestest best friends, i loved that guild, because my feelings grew in it, since lvl 4x all the way up till 8x. I'm deeply saddened and grieved to hear the news, be it temporary or permanant, NoMercy is engraved in my heart, nvr to be erased, nvr to be forgotten. But all of u that i remembered, will always still be my friends.

I have never been in NoMercy and have never had any aspirations to.
However, you guys are legends in your own right. This is truly a sad event, and a huge blow both to the strength and the sense of pride of the Bijou server. You guys are the big names in Bijou, the ones who forge us new frontiers... Phan, Fatal, DEK, Fin, etc etc... your grouping together and co-operation is something the rest of us could aspire to.
Your legends must continue. You guys are pivotal in defining greatness on the Bijou server, and something only accomplished by co-operation between each other.
Agh! I don't know what else to say. Just work it out, damnit.

Well, my sympathies to NoMercy and it members. Truly, NM was a stalwart guild, and I am saddened to see it go, as there are now fewer and fewer of the old guard guilds and players left; they were legendary and shall be missed.
I remember when I hit Lv 30, in late November '07, I bought a Zombie King 1 handed sword from a shop for 75s. (A fortune at that time) The creator of the sword was Viagra, and I remember people telling me that I should be honored to have Viagra's old Weapon, because he was so awesome lol.
NoMercy became a collection of the elite, old-school players as the server changed and its population exploded round the cap raise to Lv 79. When many of the oldest guilds fell, NoMercy was glad to take in their old members and became even stronger. Many of the best players on our server, like Fatal and SBR, were taken in by NoMercy in this way.
I can understand how Fatal feels, I could never imagine Zero Guild being disbanded. And if it was, I would probably run round without a guild for awhile myself. But, I think being conflicted and uncertain of the future is a testament to her attachment to NoMercy; caring so much can leave one feeling this way.
So, again I give my sympathies to NoMercy's former members, and salute you as a fellow old-guard player.

I'm part of the newer generation i guess, Havn't been around for much history making, But since i was a poor nub, I knew NM was one of the best/strongest guilds Bijou has ever had. It's a shame to see it go down like this.
At least for some members joining new guilds, and moving on they'll form new bonds & alliances. Also damn, now PS can't fight NM haha.
Anyways GL to all the NM people hope you meet new people.

Aww Faytee.. Heh, I went on a break for two weeks and look what happens. ~.~
Well some stuff happened with me too so I'm back to Fiesta sooner than expected, only to find myself guildless and alone yet again. :s
Well I'm not yet sure if I'm back for good, but I'll be doing titles on my archer for now, leave a whisper or something if you see me or the notices. XD
Anyways I don't know where I'm gonna go now, I don't think I wanna go to one of the newly formed guilds, might just stay guildless this time.
Goodbye NM.

Hmm... I'm not entirely sure what words would suffice for you guys but i'll give it a try.
As a wanderer I studied the great guilds of bijou. While I desperately tried to settle my main my alts have gone from one guild to another doing my best to compile bijou's history. In a sense that makes me one of the servers 'historians' as I study the subject. Once upon a time a 6x mage graced NoMercy. The 6x mage was the hidden alt of a very solo oriented archer who was at the time learning to work with others in a party environment. Within NoMercy's halls I found a sort of 'hum' so to speak. Many knowledgable players who knew what they were talking about, whether it be about pvp or about licenses and so on and so forth.
NoMercy... from what I saw as a collective believed that each individual should be able to solo from time to time. Power of the individual. A few times we did party amongst eachother and those parties showed just how strong each individual player is. I picked up alot of fighter builds and information that I incorporate in my undestroyable king of kkp; Archemedeus. He is the offspring of that pool of knowledge, and he is successful. In my own mind that is a testament to what NoMercy has always been.
There are times when players don't agree. That happens with everyone. I think phan, in the few experiences I witnessed before moving on, did an excellent job with that. Kudos to a great guild master.
I'm sure Fatal is already aware of it, but I idolize her screen shot capabilities. I spend time each week browsing the fiesta magazine threads trying to learn something. That is something that'd never change. I have a hobby of photo taking... even though i'm not the greatest at it. And with such hobbies people always have someone to aspire to... to look at and build their own work from.
You are a strong person, just like the guild you came from Fatal. Know this: if you are ever in need of anything, whether it be just to talk, or help with something else, your number 1 fan Zegaii is here to listen.

Since I started in June I have heard of the great NM Fin a master tanker Fatal a master mage. Wen I heard NM was disbanding from a friend while doing Navars I could not believe it. My friend had just joined NM and wanted one of those siggys from Fatal but after only like 2 weeks it disbanded he was a guild master before so he easily made a guild again but he was still distraught. I understand how you feel Fatal about having a home finally and getting it yanked away from you that sux horribly but just brush it of you are very strong maybe even make your own guild become a guild master see were that leads you^^

Oh no...one of my favorite guilds filled with some of my great friends are gone now. It's a misfortune to see one of Bijou's anceint guilds to go to ruins. I will miss it.
In my experience, I can say I was similar in your situation. When ChanterOfElegies was no more, I didn't want to go to any guild for awhile. Some time passed and I accepted what the situation really was and I moved on. I moved on to other guilds with my friends, but I will always remember the people who were in the guild not the guild itself. In memory, CoE will always be there because it represented the people who were there from the start. Just like NoMercy, I hope you are in peace with the following events that took place recently.
I cannot believe that NoMercy is gone. It had a lot of great people. When I first heard that NoMercy disbanded, I was in disbelief. I really looked up to NoMercy and it was my favorite guild. Realizing that it was truth, I am deeply saddened by the fact.
Well, good luck and it just sucks to know that a great guild disbanded. I hope it does return, but that may not happen. I remember when I was in TR and NM helped me out. I remember some of the great friends I met in NM. I remember the guild war we had, NoMercy vs. PerfectSin. Of course, my guild lost. Though, it is the last thing I remembered and it was a fun event for me. I'm going to miss NoMercy. Good bye NoMercy. .___.

feebz, honestly i wish u wouldn't make light of the situation. true it is a game, however it is played by real people with real feelings and very real connections to one another.
do you think your existence within the bijou community doesn't have an impact on anyone? not a single person? true, it is a game, but it matters. this isn't Fable, or FFVII where there is nobody on the other side of the screen. these are real people u interact with daily.

It's really sad to see NM go. They were a great guild. They've been around for ages. It seems that all of the older guilds are disbanding. The only one left, in my eyes, is Ryekarayn.
NM was a phenomenal guild. But it wasn't the guild, it was the people. Back when I was in Aoi_No_Kaze, we had great wars and fun with NM. Sometimes in abyss, sometimes fighting over grinding spots. But in the end, we all were just here to play the game, meet people, and have a good time.
Just before NM disbanded, I was in their academy until i was level 45ish on my fighter. All of the guildmates were willing to help out anyone anytime and they were always so kind and polite and friendly. Although the guild tag is gone, most of the people are still around. And for that, I am very happy.
Fatal, Bijou loves you very much and this game would be so different without you. Who would be the Editor-in-chief for the magazine? No one could do it quite like you can. And not only that, you are also and phenomenal player. You are always there to chat when people need you, and you help out however you can.
~Reminisces on the past~ I remember this one time I was running through AEW to go quest somewhere and you were on Faytal doing greenkys. And, I didn't know it at the time, but you were trying to help Tube find me so that he could propose. =) I said hi to you and next thing I see is Tube coming at me on his pegasus.
Anyways, Fatal no one wants to see you leave this game, and I sincerely hope that you find a place where you are happy. Whether it be Chocolate, VH, being guildless, or joining some other guild. There are many people here to support you and back you up and be there for you when you are in need.
We love you Fatal =)

Well, since you mention it, now the oldest active guild on Bijou is Bad_Wolf_Project. Gratz to Ptollemy and the gang lol. Some of the older guilds are still around, like Minerva, Cloth, Killers, and Zero. But Zero, for example, though we have 2 Capped players and 4 more over Lv 85, we are just a small guild, and can't compare to the larger warring guilds like NoMercy.
For the last year, the three major powers on Bijou were ANK, NM, and Rye. Now that 2 are gone, you are right that I don't think anyone can match Rye's sheer power and numbers. Though Q himself may return when the Level cap raises, and that might bring a revival of ANK.
But Fatal is right, this is the end of an era here in Bijou. And though it is sad to see things change like this, it will also be interesting to see what the future holds for this sever.

absolutely. why would it matter that you would have never talked to or seen this person again. u helped shape who this person is or will be.
u may never have seen your kindergarten teacher again, but i'm sure she's had an impact on your life.
what about if u moved out of town... u don't think your memory lives on in those that stay behind? u don't carry those memories and experiences to your next stage in life?

I can garuntee you that 95% of the people that play this game won't remember most of the players that "helped shape who you are" in the next 8-10 years. As long as that happens, I, personally, have no intention of impacting anyone purposely.

I was very fortunate to be in this guild even if it just for about 3 months or so. I was one of the stubborn ones who stayed in the guild till its banishment and tho i never felt the same way again even with the new tag on my head, I will never forget the experience and happy times i spent with the people behind NoMercy. Not everyone is like that, however. I know I'll never forget my friends from WoW or SL. Likewise, I've met people in Fiesta that have become almost as close to me as RL friends. I don't think I could ever forget these people, or what their friendship means to me. There are many, many memories that will stay with me long after I quit this game, and really, I'm sure I'm not the only person that still continues to play because of the sense of community. The game, in of itself, is actually quite boring. It's the people that spice it up, per se.

Walter Beign wrote a book called The Online World, I suggest you pick it up, it discusses interactions based from an online perspective. Yes it is possible to make an impact and online media such as ventrilo make it 100 times more affective. People who play this game meet a variety of people they might not have without it. They CAN grow and change as the result of a game. Furthermore, not everyone shares your morose opinion about this game, so don't try and impose that on others.
Oh of course everyone makes an impact on other people, but when you think about it, in the end when your done playing you've just achieved nothing.
A play spends ages getting they player to cap, using time and effort. That feeling when you do do something like that is an achievement. Don't try and down play the little things in life, for they are the few things we still have.
To Fatal and NM,
It's sad to see a Bijou guild leave again, I was once in NoMercy, and I feel like the experience there bettered me as a player. I hope everyone finds they're new niche in Bijou.
<3 you all

In reply to Feebz, going in reserve:
Walter Beign wrote a book called The Online World, I suggest you pick it up, it discusses interactions based from an online perspective. Yes it is possible to make an impact and online media such as ventrilo make it 100 times more affective. People who play this game meet a variety of people they might not have without it. They CAN grow and change as the result of a game. Furthermore, not everyone shares your morose opinion about this game, so don't try and impose that on others.

Well, considering I haven't read the book, I don't really know what to say to this but the fact that you have a hella tight siggy lmao

Well, people have their own ideas and habits when it comes to Online relationships. Some people are more open to them, and some are more guarded. I don't think that either way is wrong, and feebz makes his point, but I honestly don't think this is the right place to discuss it.
The ancient Greeks had five different words for "Love" --though right now I can only recall three of the words lol-- Eros is romantic love. Agape is an infinite, giving love; the kind of love a parent has for their child or that God has for His children. Philos is brotherly love. It is the root word of the word "philosophy" which means literally, "Knowing Brotherly Love." And Philadelphia literally means: "The City of Brotherly Love."
It seems that the NoMercy guild members had a lot of Philos. And I can certainly understand that. Some people who are more reserved may not form (literally) Philosophical bonds with others in-game, but NoMercy members did. This is not surprising, when you consider how long most of the members had been playing together. And it is always tragic when these bonds are strained.
But, this happens in the real world as well. Philos is not a virtue that is well sought-after in modern days; and friends fall out and disappear. So, in this way the game mirrors life.

Hmm...I recently studied these in English and I have the other two written in my notes somewhere, but I couldn't find them >.<

Wait... Fatal never said in her posts anything about leaving. Do you know something the rest of us don't?
Ohhh nononono. I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that when guilds dismantle, some people quit the game and I was just saying that I don't want to see her go. =x My bad. I guess I didn't word that very well. =/
This is very true. I guess I just thought of it as guilds that I see around all the time (as in a lot of people). I do apologize. You are very correct in that there are many of these older guilds that still have active players, whether they be small or large guilds.
For the last year, the three major powers on Bijou were ANK, NM, and Rye. Now that 2 are gone, you are right that I don't think anyone can match Rye's sheer power and numbers. Though Q himself may return when the Level cap raises, and that might bring a revival of ANK.
As being a former ANK member, I don't believe that Q will return. After the he capped, he only came on to kick academy members maybe once a week. =/ Honestly, the reason ANK fell apart was because Q would never log on and he would not pass guild master to someone else.
Thanks rooks, and no i'm not going anywhere.... perhaps cazn is pushing me out the door!
but yeah, don't forget Outcast in that list of guilds.. at their height they could stand toe to toe with everyone else.
Oh my goodness! No Fatal. I want you to stay very much. I have the utmost respect for you and you are a role model to many fiesta players.
And yes, OutCast was very good as well. It was very sad to see them go too. Maybe they will revitalize some day.
<sorry for the long post =x>

what happened...
.. is what I want to ask, but I guess I myself would not even want to know what exactly caused all of this..
Be strong dearest faytee.
Anyways, it's been a while, but I'll just be a chat away if you need some cheerful spams like the old times :) It may take a while, but I'm sure a new guild (existing or has yet to be formed) can give you that warm feeling again.
Despite the fact it's been a long time since I played, hearing about this had an impact, so I just can't imagine the impact it has on you and the rest of its members, former or current..
I hope someday this gets resolved and possibly see a revival of old guilds. There's nothing wrong with a tiny bit of optimism, i hope?

My apologies to you Ran, I've read your pms just now. And I don't know when I can update that thread again.
But it's nice to see you along with some familiar faces in the forums ^^;
I'll try to add you when I get to my computer ^^ and if I don't forget it ~_~
