This needs to be seriously and quickly address.

I was warned today by a player, that I would be reported for using the word "****ty".

*smirks* yes, someone was going to report me for that!

As a result however, a quick check was done on many other words, like Sex for example which was filtered perfectly, yet b*itch, d*ck, *ss.... well... you can imagine your own words, were actually printed onto the screen. Add to this some racial words, beginning with N for example, and I foresee a multitude of problems ahead.

Please be nice guys and at least * the vowels for those minors that probebly know these words better than us anyway, see them, if you add them to this thread to be considered filtering.

Whenever games filter every possible insult under the english language the basic way to type changes, like in 2moons they can't say the word Knight (or night) simply because it contains 3 letters to a slur, so you must resort to saying Nite...not to mention this gives rise to Even Worse Spellings of words...

Besides annoying the crap out of other players by not being able to type normally...the chat filter can even teach players new dirty/curse words to use...

for example:
XxXoverusednameXxX: Hey Clarky, this mob has a ***** and i wonder what else it drops
XxXoverusednameXxX: hey why'd that get censored? *looks at the letters in the word*
XxXoverusednameXxX: Oh i see now, woot for learning new bad words from chat filters
ClarkyBob: lol...

I think they should just cover the basic staple curse words (you know what they are) and not bother with the rest...

*any similarity to persons living or dead in this post is purely coincidental

i think censoring certain words (and making them guess)
is much better then them seeing it full out, uncensored and exposed.
besides, i remember playing a game where hair was censored because the word "hai" was in there,
which means p***y in malaysian or something, as told by a friend .3.;;
the censors shouldn't be too extreme to the point where it'll censor anything with the profanity in it, but the entire word as a whole should be censored if typed as a single word, not a compound. or words that people use most of the time should be an exception, since many will abuse the noncompound rule and type something like xf**k [without the censors] in so it won't be recognized as a bad word.

loopholes ftl~

I think people should be able to make their own chat-filter for the game,
for later "goldspam" and "leveling" spam.

Not a bad idea Mifuyne.

oh, but if they do make their own chat filter,
the profanity side of the game would still exist, now wouldn't it? .3.
and it's rather pointless having people put in their own profanity filter
as they'll look up certain types of profanity, get the meaning of it,
and insert it into the filter, which is now rendered useless because
it's actual use is not needed anymore and defeats the entire purpose altogether.

a customizable chat filter is great for other things though,
like mifu said, such as spam and other things you don't want filling your chatbox.

Overdo it with filters and you have a situation where you can't even type "class" or do a "classdiscussion", they even filter words with some twists in them, I think it was with a blank in between two letters, or an underscore. Can't remember, but I tried when I was wondering why I can't say "class" ^^

lol~ that's horrible D;
the GMs can make a acception list and write down
acceptable ones with the "bad words" in them so the filter
wouldn't be eliminated from the game system~
of course, that'll expand overtime as many more players
contribute to the acception list by telling GMs what word is it
(through PM or perhaps a thread).

er guys, I am not talking about overdoing the filter.

It needs resolving quickly to include the very basic of swear words and racist words is all I meant.

I posted something previously in the bug section of the Forum regarding the Language Filter.

It is copied below with 1 Edit :-

The Language filter needs work and possibly even an option of turning it off altogether.

There are errors in the filter, one of which is that it does not even recognise spaces. Lets say for example you wanted to type 'On that map you will get less experience'. It will think you are typing sex and censor it. In all honesty, sex is not exactly a swear word anyway is it? Some people play Male and Female characters and you could be asking genuinely what sex they are in real life.

The filter does need work and I think people should even have the option of turning it off altogether. Filters like this can cause problems when trying to describe things, especially when they are not coded correctly. People will be playing from countries all around the world, and it's possible that a language filter could block normal things people would say in there native languages.

As far as bad language is concerned, all you would have to do is take a screenshot of something rude someone has said and send it into the GM's for said person to be disciplined if it gets out of hand. ( Edit:- I have been a GM on a couple of games myself and this system always seems to work just fine. Filters are not really needed at all. If people risk being banned for repeated bad language or abuse etc, then it is less likely to happen. You can still have people with a bad attitude on a server, insulting people without swearing. A Language Filter will not solve that. Reporting serious issues of bad language, harassment etc always works better in the end, than a chat filter ever does.)

I generally find 'Language Filters' an annoyance as they pretty much all seem to have bugs in them and at the same time it's wasting processing power (Even if only a small amount).

Please give some feedback on this as it is something that needs looking at anyway.

Yup, i always laugh when "class" or "hourglass" get censored ... and at the same tiem you have no option to ignore heavy spammers ...

(omg, how hard would it would be to add "ignore" ? add to that check that if someone is ignored from say 50 people, log his 50 shouts/says/whishpers and send taht package for some human to verify and ban account ...

bingo! by accident just invented way to delete gold-spammer accounts faster than they appear :)

btw. at least some "command line" way to toggle those filters?

because there 13+ people playing (me among them) and the age at which swearing is ok (sorta) is 18.

the filter just needs a bit of work.
It only blocks out words that look like there trying to overcome the filter like Class Exp (or summin, couldnt think of a real sentance XD)
