I'm trying to sell stuff to NPC merchants but I can't. how do you do that?

Open NPC window and right click the item you want to sell.
Holding shift+ right click lets you select how many from a stack to sell.

It is better to sell your loot at sale stores (blue text above the mushroom). USUALLYpeople pay more than the merchant, but there are some obnoxious people in the game that will pay you less than what the merchant will pay.

and holding CTRL+Right Clicking auto-sells the whole stack at once.
