Hi! I already went thru the trouble-shooting guide and nothing seems to help :(
*exasperated.
The problem started after the maintenance today, and I logged on to SOS when it was up. After it downloaded the patch and updates and all, I launched the client, logged on, and then the screen turned to the initialization window (the small black window with white words ). After that, the "XenClient.exe has stopped working" pop up appeared, forcing me to close the client :( I'm at a loss please help! :(

I have this same exact problem. I've tried reinstalling SoS and it does nothing to help. The game crashed on me Sunday and when I tried to reconnect it started patching. The patching took several hours. When it was done, I tried to restart the game. Again, it started patching for several hours. Now all I get is the xenclient.exe has stopped working once I pick the server. The funny thing is it is only happening on one computer. The computer it is happening on is running Vista. The XP computer will get on fine.

Make sure your net frame work is up-to-date. Sometimes it seems to reset to an older version and weird things happen with the game.

Kk thanks. Can you post some information about your machine?
Click start>Run>Type dxdiag>Press enter>Click no>
Click save all information in the bottom right hand corner>Click desktop on the left
Click save>close the dxdiag dialogue box>Open the document from the desktop>
Copy and paste paste whats listed in the System Information area and the Display Devices area into the ticket. That will cover everything basic except the amount of free space on your computer.
To find out how much free space is available on your Pc do the following:
Locate the computer or my computer icon, Either on your start menu or desktop
Right click the icon>Click Manage>Double-click storage> Double-click disk management
Locate the line that reads: C:\
Look under the column header that reads. Free space and type out what is listed. Be sure to include any letters. For example 50mb is a lot less space than 50Gb. This Is important.

Thanks, Everything looks great however. According to your information you are using Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. I would highly recommend running windows updates and installing service pack 3. To the best of my knowledge I do not know if the requirement is Sp3 now or not. In any case it should be done.
Always remember to create a system restore point before changing anything on your system:Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Click System Restore>Click Create a restore point>click Next>Type Updates>Click create>Click close.
You can go here to automatically install the latest windows updates:
http://update.microsoft.com/
Perform any updates necessary, then restart the machine.
Next I see the video card driver hasn't been updated in a long time. -Driver Date/Size: 7/25/2006 06:52:16
Navigate to
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.9&lang=English
Save the new driver on your desktop.
Create another restore point and chose Video Drivers for the name so it can be rolled back if you encounter problems.
Uninstall the current videocard drivers
Click start>Run>type devmgmt.msc>Press enter>Locate display adapters> CLick the plus sign>Your ATI Mobility Radeon X1450 should be listed>Right click on it>Choose Uninstall>Click okay>Click yes to restart>Install the driver we saved to the desktop earlier>Restart after installation>Attempt to run Sos again.

I put a direct link to the download page for your videocard drivers. Please re-read my previous post. You should remove the current driver first from the device manager before installing the new driver or you may encounter problems. This is very important. Can you provide a screenshot of the display adapters, aftrer you click the plus? What's listed if it isn't your videocard?

Actually I was looking for this screen. Did you remove the old driver from your machine first? Also if you visit this link.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.9&lang=English
You will find a link to the page for your driver. Afterwards you just need to click Download on the top item on the right hand side there.
But we need to remove the old driver before installing the new one.
baktron

On that link there is no 1450, I can't find it at least... I've searched and also navigated over the menu and no 1450. Just from 1300 goes to 1550

If you view the link I posted and read the "Readme" in the middle of the screen on the left hand side, Your card is supported. The long list on that page is the video cards they will stop supporting in future driver releases.
Additionally the description reads:
"Validation utility to determine if Catalyst Mobility™ is compatible with your system and download the driver"
This will verify you can install the driver and if it is compatible it will install automatically.
Again have you removed the old driver??

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.9&lang=English

Anyway, to those who have problems with the game i.e. logging in, client crashing, black screen, shadows, etc. I think I have a solution. If you have a copy of the Outspark folder or the Secret of the Solstice folder one or two patches ago, it might help. That's what I did. I have a copy of the Outspark folder in my external hdd. The files are from 3 patches ago. I reinstalled SotS and replaced the Outspark folder with the old folder. I logged in throught the launcher and the client starts updating with the 3 latest patches. And it miraculously works fine..!! No more crashing! No more black screen! No more shadows! Woot!!! I hope this helps....
To those who have been playing SotS previously (before the last maintenance), I can assure you that there's nothing wrong with your computer! I believe that the client has failed to download the update patch properly when you logged in just after the last maintenance causing glitches of all sorts. All the best to you all!!

Good work my question is have you performed a clean uninstallation and a reinstallation of the software to a new location on the computer? It sounds like a problem with the application trying to patch old files and not doing it correctly. It makes sense if we remove the application, Delete those files manually and reinstall the program to a new location it would work just fine becuase it writes those files for the first time and has nothing to patch except the default installation files. Maybe not necessarily patching other patches.
c0iddidctkcz0fgpathb
07-10-2009, 06:11 PM
This is exactly why I have asked here
http://www.outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212545
That there be more full download clients released. It's time to integrate those patches into the mainstream client and make one complete download with far less patching. Until new ones are created.
The standard troubleshooting model is UDAS user, data, application ( Sos ) and system which in this case was video card drivers. BEcause of the nature of the problem indicating video, I troubleshot video first ( System ) and ignored the troubleshooting model..Dangit >_> It was my intention to verify video and move to clean application installs.
I think we need to test clean intalls before we start announcing that as a solution. In any case great job sir.

That's what i do, make a copy of sos and use it the way you described to replace the old solstice folder, only difference is i don't do a reinstall before copying the old folder into the original location. I'm currently looking into alternative ways to do this, maybe a backup program, or something that can save changes made after every successful patch and allow you to just roll back and redo the update if the patch fails.

That's very clever for oldschool Sos users. What I mean to say is that performing a clean removal and reinstallation as a solution to the general public may resolve these problems.
I agree on a single user basis this may be a good idea, It's pretty awesome. But isn't great as a solution for everyone x.x
Although a small addon to the game would be nice to autobackup the current updates for rollback before downloading any new updates* Great idea.

Your videocard is listed as supported. I realize we have a new error message another common one this time. To me this indicates an issue either still with the driver or the application. We will attemtpt to handle one problem at a time. We will restore the system to it's original state first.
The next step to resolution is a clean removal. reinstallation.

The first and only time i ever had to do a full reinstall was back when the christmas lair was put in. I couldn't log on for a whole week as i tried to fix it, doing 3 reinstalls and learning exactly how the updates can get messed up and methods on how to prevent it before it happen with a 95% chance of success. It motivated me to figure out how to have it not happen again, but the weekly updates we had recently made the copy entire solstice folder annoying, having to copy and replace the bad updated solstice folder for the waypoint patch twice(which was so small how could it fail) is time consuming and frusterating.
The recent patch had me think about looking for a backup program again(havent had one for about a month?). The key is finding the right one, unless outspark, you, or someone else finds a good one and posts it i'll keep looking, has to be easy to use and efficient at backing up and rolling back files.

I've had the old Outspark folder for a couple of months or so way back when I started playing the game. I cleverly copied the files from my Windows XP to my Windows Vista to avoid having to download all the patches twice on two different laptops. I never thought of copying them again when I had the black screen problem after the last maintenance. It just struck me this morning right after my night shift. LOL! Thankfully it works just fine... ^.^ so I suggest to have a copy of the files that actually work as a backup just in case future updates disrupt the game again. xD

I realize this is long, Painful and requires alot of work. But if you are patient I think we might be able to come to a resolution for this problem and if not we can learn alot about the problem and provide quality information to Sos technicians. There may be a few extra and maybe unecessary steps in here. However at this point I don't want to assume anythign about your system and make any childish mistake. Performing these steps will largely create a more black and white picture of the the causes surrounding this problem. This will remove that possibility and will reduce about 85% of the causes for a problem of this nature.
First download the applications we will need.
1. Sos client. Download the latest game client if you don't have the LATEST version already.

5. C:\Program Files\.Outspark\.Secret of the Solstice ( Notice the periods, This forces the installation to re-write all new values for this installation. Many times during a reinstallation the program is reinstalled to the same location, this should not be done and is not recommended.)
Restart the computer in normal mode and attempt to run Sos
1. Click start
2. Click Run

I have windows Vista Home premium. I didnt have any issues playing SOS until today.
(sunday, July 26th, 2009). Now this "Xenclient.exe has stopped working" issue kicks me off the server before I even reach the character selection screen.
Can I do the same steps to rectify this issue so I can play today??

That's what i do, make a copy of sos and use it the way you described to replace the old solstice folder, only difference is i don't do a reinstall before copying the old folder into the original location. I'm currently looking into alternative ways to do this, maybe a backup program, or something that can save changes made after every successful patch and allow you to just roll back and redo the update if the patch fails.
can i copy Sost file from windows xp to vista?????

This is meant to be a response to
baktron:
It doesn't supports. I've uninstalled and installed what the link had and didn't support it. And worst, Sots sais now OpenGL1,2 or more required.

Located at:
http://solstice.outspark.com/support/download
Click the blue Download button, Click save, Click desktop on the left hand side.
Restart into a clean environment:
1. Click start
2. Click Run
3. Type msconfig
4. Press enter
5. Choose selective startup
6. Uncheck Load system services
7. Uncheck load startup Items
8. Click the services tab
9. Scroll to locate Windows Installer
10. Checkmark Windows Installer
11. Click okay in the bottom left hand corner
12. Click restart
Remove Sos in the clean envoironment

10. Restart the machine to ensure complete removal of SOS
Rename the following folders by adding the number 1 to the end of the folder names:
c:\Program Files\Outspark\Secret of the Solstice\
Reinstall Sos to a new directory on the hard drive:
1. Doubleclick the Solstice-01_32_0000.exe file o the desktop
2. Click next
3. Click change
4. Change the installation path: C:\Program Files\Outspark\Secret of the Solstice to
1. Click start
2. Click Run

I've figured out that the problem is a compatibility to xenclient and the computer
the game works fine but the program XenClient.exe will not work with the computer
so some one needs to find a compatible version or download an older version of xen client reinstall and replace the new one with a downloaded one

hi everybody ^^, i need help with this too, my problem started 4 days ago, i played the game at morning but it was pretty slow, too much lag, i tought it was a problem with the new updates of windows, not the last in the game, cuz i didnt have problems with the last updates of solstice, then i restored the system, and when i started solstice again, the updates started again (naturally cuz i restored the system) but when it finished with that the game took me off and shout me a message: Xenclient stoped working... it just closes and i cant log in, i uninstalled the game and downloaded the game again with the old file, not the O+ and when it finished download after 9hrs it says something like "download was aborted trying to... idk what"and and i couldnt install it again and cannot download it again form the same file, so i decided to use the O+ file to download the game and its already in progress, but my question is: Should i uninstall the Pando Media Booster before it finish downloading the game again? i dont want to have poblems with that... or should i keep the program installed? cuz i wasnt able to download from O+ without the PMB, then idk what to do now to dont have to redownload game. plz help.
Uh, and i think that having a registry clenaer can help to uninstall and remove old files of programs uninstalled like solstice to dont have problems with the new ones at reinstalling, i have the TweakNow PowerPack if interested, it makes your PC run faster and clean registry problems that may cause u cant install the game. ^.^
