So I got myself a nice little pet to ride on my shoulder. Upon equipping my new pet I noticed that it went in one of the many equipment slots that are set up in a circular pattern around your character in the inventory window. Seeing how many slots there were I figured I would be able to equip another pet for the added stat bonuses. I was wrong. Is it possible to have more than one pet equipped at a time? If not, why the multitude of equipment slots?

You can only have one pet on at a time.

Those other slots you see are for other accessories, such as Cash Shop costumes and items. (i.e Hats, wings, top, pants, shoes)

If you get married however you get the "wedding pets". Two pets that take up one slot and increase your stats by 2.
