how do i sell items to npc's?

Go to purchase. Right click the items in your inventory. To sell more then one item at a time, shift+right click, select amount, then sell them.

either that or vend ( create your shop ) by pressing "b" on your keyboard then click sell, drag your items into the little boxes ( 5 only ) then sell for a reasonable price, my advice is check other shops and see how much they sell there stuff for then you can sell your loot for same price or maybe a little higher :) but only do this when you go to sleep or go out as sitting at your computer screen for ages waiting for someone to buy your loot is boring hehe
