no one can "hack" your account. that would require them getting into the account info database and thus compromizing every ones account. even then i bet the passwords are encrypted on said database. you would either have to hint at your password and give it out to some one. ppl call this hacking because they want to feel "1337". also any unauthorized access to datbase files can be tracked, logged, and banned. they could even go as far to trace the ip of the said "hackers" to their house and ISP and inform them of the breach os the TOS. hacking peoples passwords in MMOs has and never will be done on the individual level any more. it may have happened in the past but unless there is like credit card info on the database no one is gona bother. no one is going to risk it just to get back at 1 person. when you **** some one off and they say their gona hack you just ignore it, they cant and wont. the best way to prevent this "hacking" is to never give out your pass to anyone or even hint at what your password is. also pick a pretty complex pass that includes both captol letters and numbers and example is "Sugarcane25". simple passwords like "1234zz" are easily guessed and cracked. also you can prevent these "password cracker" programs from even getting clost to your pass by including an altcode charater in it like "IlikePie©". you can get a list of these char maps in windows by going to start > run and type in charmap. overall its just a scare tactic and some cheap manipulation for info that these morons consider "hacking"...

I watched a video of someone doing it on WOW to some one who owed him money. He asked to see something the kid was wearing/wielding, and when the kid showed him, he hacked into the kids account and deleted EVERYTHING from the his inventory, and ALL of his (high level, like 70) characters.:eek:

Just report it in the forums. it should be under Outspark Forums > Fiesta > bug reports. Even though it's not a bug, report it like that. Usually games can do an account restore, but since this is just a beta, I'm not sure. Hopefully you didn't try to buy from one of the gold seller sights that are always spammed for, because they are all just sites to get your account info. But just do that, and I'm sorry that happened to you (unless, ofcourse, you tried to buy gold):mad:. Hope you get your account back^^.

hacking requires really good skills in programming to do and to hack someones account... well, it isn't that feasable. If anything - someone got his user name and guessed at his password forever. Which means his password wasn't to good.

Hacking is NOT possible. Even if you were 'Bill Torvalds' you would not be able to breach an account system like that one. ALL Account hijects in the history of MMORPGs have been either scams or good guesses, some also bruteforce. So - in 99% its your own fault if you got your account hijected..

Just stick to what CrimsonWing said. Never ever give any password to anyone, nor use a simple password or a 'word'password - and you will be saved.

Oh, btw Afreakinqueen: Proof of concept please. Not that i wouldnt be amused if WoW would allow such simple tricks, but i cant buy it. That was either faked or highly lucky.

There are some programs that are used to read a password when it is typed, but those are only for extencivly simple passwords. I use a complicated one, and even though I've been told loads of times someones gonna hack me, it has yet to happen. =)

most gmes nowadays use SQL databases to store their data because their fast, reliable, and simple. they look like excell spreadsheets actually =D hacking a server ip is hard since only certain IPs/MACs are allowed access to "root" [the data in the database]

i know what im talking about because i have bone most of this. the only way some one can get your pass is:

1. you give it to some one

2. they guess your pass

3. keylogger

4. bruteforce [also known as password crackers]

the easiest way to prevent the last 2 is to make a uncomon pass with capitols, numbers, and alt codes. hell if you want a truely uncrackable pass make it completely out of alt codes, thats what i do with my PCs default administrator account.

You can get hacked In Diablo 2 LoD EVEN IF U PLAY LADDER (MEANS ur chars are saved online)...... happened to me once.... I forgot what command i typed but there is system in D2 that can lockate everything like paths monsters n stuff. And if u use some comand (which i dont remember) person who have that hack turned on can see it. Offcourse when I got my chars n acc back nothing was left there........ I got it back by changing password....

Oh and I couldnt use my old pass cause person who hacked me changed it....


I changed it by reporting my email to Blizzard and they changed pass....

Bots are no hacking. Scamers are not hackers. Hacking an account on a MMO in the 3rd generation shouldnt be possible anymore since Database and Game arent on one server anymore, most of the time not even on one computer anymore.
Besides you would also - even if you'd get into the db - try to reverse the password encryption. Sure, MD5 is since rainbowing no problem anymore, but still.. if you have not just a word or something it should be save.
Last of it.. maybe some games were hackable (never seen any proof.. even Auriemma did never break UO, EQ, WoW...) but the problems they had should have been gone loooooooong ago. Security takes CPU/RAM/HDD but this is no problem anymore...
And people who get scamed should never get any sympathy.. they wanted to cheat the game and therefore have lost all by their own fault.

Exactly.. Once i tried on a UO freeshard one thing: I simply did a Eur/Gold page and put in:

"To verify that your account exists enter [USERNAME] and [PASSWORD] in the form underneath this text."
Got 32 Accounts that way.. in two days.. from a userbase of 500 people.
Wonder what would happen here...

My fiance hacked Halo 2. He got banned for it multiple times. He now has Halo 3 and has noticed a lot of the things he did when he hacked have been put in the game. What you said, once again goes right out the window.

hacking a exploits are 2 differnt things. hacking is using a 3rd party program yo give yourself an advantage. exploiting is using built in bugs and defects to give yourself an advantage, such as being able to hide inside walls is an example of an exploit.

Scamming is just that. Using people's ignorance to take advantage of them. Such as going door to door to elderly people offering services for cash upfront, or variable interest loans, or tricking someone into entering their account info into a form before buying gold for the game.

Hacking is gaining information such as credit card information, or account information through direct attack, without the other person giving you any unwilling help. An example of hacking would be obtaining the database server records using any of many software programs available on the web for illegal activities, and breaking both the encryption, and firewall of said server.

The terms used are just semantics though. The only problem is, you are undoubtedly going to offend whitehats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_hat) by using the term hacking to refer to keyloggers and scams.
