So... I deleted my cleric alt and remade her as a fighter. I want to be able to solo with her, but I also wanted to pull my weight in a party (yeah, yeah, I want it all...). Given that tanking/aggro holding is the fighter's schtick, I decided my character would have to focus on skills useful to that role.

I considered an Axe tank for a long while. 25 Spr/rest Str, Axe, skill points in Power Hit, Mock, Devastate, Precise Attack, Demoralizing Hit. Basically, point-and-click skillspam with as much damage as I can manage, to grab and hold aggro.

Since my main is a cleric, I kept thinking... I'm building an SP sponge. ><

Adding the shield back to the tank felt like the way to go. Gain a block rate and more def, another item to squeeze stats onto.

In the end, I came up with a pure Str, 1h/shield hybrid thing, with skill points in Slice and Dice, Mock, Devastate, Accurate Strike, Demoralizing Hit. I'm debating Vitality or Toughness, but skill points are scarce.

My guess is that going pure Str will make soloing viable even as a 1h-oriented fighter. The damage won't compare to 2h/axers, but should still be good enough to solo on. As far as tanking goes, I figure the pure Str 1h stat build would grab and hold aggro better than other 1h stat builds. The question is whether the bonus in aggro gen suitably compensate for the lower defense.

The areas I especially need help with is choosing how to spend skill points. Though I do buy SparkCash from time to time, I'd rather avoid having a 'level up build' with the expectation of reskilling and statting later.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I've never played a fighter past early 20's, so I'm hoping for advice from players experienced with higher level fighters.

Full str with 1h/shield is a very good tanking build.

You have enough dmg to keep aggro while still having high def.

Anyone with skill point suggestions? I've read the stickies and a couple of other guides, but it seems like the tank builds they list assume an End-statted fighter. Though a lot of it will still apply, I was wondering where (if anywhere) I should shave points to put into damage skills. A damage spike or two on demand seem like they would be handy for grabbing aggro.

Also, can anyone chime in on Toughness and Demoralizing Hit? I'm trying to decide which of those, if either, would be worth putting points in. ('Damage' on Demoralizing Hit, Duration and/or SP Consumption on Toughness)

Or would my fighter be hardy enough with +9 shields, +End gear and one or two other +9 armors?
