View Full Version : Solution to "Missing apps.conf" (WinXP)

Windows XP/x64:
Let the patch go all the way untill you get the "Missing apps.conf" message, but you do not press the ok button.
Search your computer for Fiesta.Patch
-It is probably avalible in C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Login>\Local Settings\Temp
(The patches might be compressed, and to extract the actuall patch, you will have to use a program such as WinRAR, and it is also required that you make a copy of the patch file(I recommend that you copy it to your desktop) so it wont be removed when you end the launcher).
Now you'll have to find that extra Outspark folder containing "apps.conf" and "launcher_error_log".
And put it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
(So the file apps.conf will be avalible as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Outspark\apps.conf. This step might require that you enable yourself to see hidden files and folders)
Now go back and right click on your patch file (Like Fiesta.Patch.64-65.exe) and right click on it and choose Properties->Compatibility and enable "Run this program in compatibility mode" and choose "Windows 2000.
Once all that is done you should only have to find you fiesta launcher (Or Shortcut), right click on it and choose Properties->Compatibility and enable "Run this program in compatibility mode" and choose "Windows 2000".
Then try to launch the game again and the patch should run just fine.
The above method:
-Does not work with Windows 2k3
-Does not work with Windows ME
Possible solution for Windows 2003 users:
Hi, i'm using w2k3 and had this problem. My solution was to put outspark.exe (inside launcher folder) on win2000 compatibility mode. It updated without problems and worked right away (also created some strange builds folder on my disc root).
Vista:
I found a solution for Vista if anyone wants.
Your apps.conf file should be in C:\Program Data\Outsparks
Cut the folder and place it in C:\users\public
It should work if you do that.

Nevermind this did work for me. I did not know how to do the run the patch in windows 2000 compatability mode. I had to right click, go to properties and then I had to click on the compatability mode yab and then pick windows 2000 and then reran the patch and it completed successfully.
Now I am at the login screen but when i try to login i get a pop up with question marks and I am not able to login. I tried to run the launcher in windows 2000 compatablility hoping this would help me. BUt no luck.

-Updated
-Hopefully made it easier to read and understand
-It seems to be a Windows XP and/or WinX64 issue.

Well, in theory i guess it would be possible to figure out where ME users has to put their apps.conf.
But i cant help you with that untill the next patch comes along.
My idea is for a XP user to change their compability to ME instead of 2k, and then tell us where the patch wanted the apps.conf file to be avalible.
EDIT: I tried doing this with 66-69, And i was unable to see where the file should go.
Sorry to all you ME users with this issue. :(

"Fiesta.Patch.66-69.7z"
Might require that you have WinRAR, or some other program so you can extract and run the .exe file inside.

Theres NO file starting with "Fiesta" in the folder listed.
I use Windows XP Professional x64 edition.
Upload it and post here please?
My problem:
I changed to compatibility mode to windows 2k, and after executed the patcher.
All seems to be Ok. I type my account and password, press enter. A new screen loads, and it shows "loading sound" and many thinks like this. After a milisecond the client is restarted. Im again in the initial screen of the patcher. ***?

Try to remove the compability mode 2k.
I think that is only needed when patching.

I belive the full name for the latest patch is "Fiesta.Patch.69-70.7z", and to open it manually you will need a problem such as WinRAR.
This does NOT work for Windows ME, as stated at the end on the first Post.
And i am sorry, but i cant help you with any other issues that you might have with the game.
I was just lucky to find a way to get passed that anoying missing apps.conf message, and im sharing that with the rest of you.
But one thing that you might try is either re-installing or changing the compability back to windows xp (Or keep it at win2k..).

This solution worked for me after the last patch; I had no trouble opening the program until I tried to open the program today after last night's patches.
At first, my screen froze as soon as the program began to apply the patch.
The next time I tried I get the old, familiar "Unable to locate apps.conf file"
The next time I tried to open the program - and every time since - I do not even get the launcher, just this message "ERRORS OCCURRED
See the logfile "C:\Program Files (x86)\Outspark\Launcher\outspark.exe.log for details"
Here is the full text from the logfile:

In addition to the information given on the first page regarding moving the "Outspark" folder containing the apps.conf file to the C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data" folder - which IS a hidden folder -, you MUST stop the launcher each time it downloads a new patch file, e.g."Fiesta.Patch.65-66.exe". Just wait a minute or two after the program states "Applying patch..." then use your Windows search command to list the "Fiesta.Patch" files. As soon as you see a new *.exe file, right-click that file and choose "Properties". Click the "Compatibility" tab, then check the radio box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 2000. Close the launcher; it _should_ restart automatically. Repeat the process until the "Fiesta.Patch.69-70.exe" file has had its compatibility changed. The next time the launcher starts the patches should all apply and you can play.

@ dorablue
I don't see what you are saying that i've forgotten.
For anyone to obtain the missing apps.conf message, the patch would already be downloaded and the applying of the patch would already have begun.
I don't see why it would be necassary to "stop the launcher" sinch it will stop at the Missing apps.conf message, and when you press Ok the launcher will end.
(And by this time there will already be a copy of atleast the .exe version of the patch launcher).
EDIT: I think i noticed what you meant.

Well, the idea behind the fix is to place the missing apps.conf file in the correct folder.
The problem is to find this folder in windows ME, Sinch it doesnt use the same "User" system as Xp.

ONLY FOR WINDOWS ME USERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE:
Ok i googled around a little, and i found 2 diffrent places that this file can go into:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Outspark\
or if you have something called "User Profile" enabled, it could possible go into:
C:\Windows\Profiles\Username\Application Data\Outspark
This is PURELY based on a guess... I've never used WindowsME myself.. So i dont even know if those folders exists.
And thus, i take no responsibility to any wierd effects that may(but most likely wont) occur.

Alright.. For my next attempt to find a solution for windows ME user, i am going to need a Windows ME user that has the latest version of Skype installed.
If you do fit the "demands" stated above, then search your computer for the picture "Skype Blue-for-you".
This file should be avalible in a folder related to a application data folder, very much alike the one in windows xp.
So here is the deal:
Let's say that you found "skype blue-for-you" in "X\Skype\Wallpapers"
Then your apps.conf should go into "X\Outspark\"*
(If this directory doesnt exist..then just make a folder named Outspark and put the file inside).
*yes that is right.. "X"=The folder previous to Skype\Wallpapers
I hope the above explanation isnt to confusing... If you dont understand it, just leave it to someone else.
And yet again, Sinch i know nothing about windows ME, this is yet another guess.
So, to quote myself: "i take no responsibility to any wierd effects that may(but most likely wont) occur."
And if you feel like it... The button to grant me additional reputation is right there
<--------- :p

Your apps.conf file should be in C:\Program Data\Outsparks
Cut the folder and place it in C:\users\public

well...i am finally really frustrated, since i spent yesterday and today reading through solutions for the missing apps.conf file problem and trying them out, but so far, nothing helped.
im am running windows vista home premium.
maybe i forgot something, but as far as finding the apps.conf file (which was oddly enough located on my root drive c:\) and i put it everywhere i could thing of (c:\users\public\outspark; c:\users\<locallogin>\outspark; c:\users\public\AppData\outspark; c:\users\<locallogin>\AppData\outspark; c:\users\public\Application Data\outspark; c:\users\<locallogin>\Application Data\outspark; c:\users\<locallogin>\AppData\local\outspark; c:\users\default\outspark; c:\users\default\AppData\Outspark; c:\users\default\AppData\local\Outspark; c:\ProgramData\Outspark; c:\ProgramData\ApplicationData\Outspark)
i managed to save the launcher update file (Outspark_Launcher.1.5.89) seperately. Then i tried running the installlation file (Outspark_Fiesta.1.2.7.5), the Launcher update file and the program itself (outspark.exe/fiesta.exe) in different compability modes. Nothing worked. Whehn installing the Launcher i always get the error message apps.conf missing, except for windows 98 compatiblity, but it doesnt make any difference when starting the program, since it still says "There was a problem logging you in: 412: Obsolet version detected. Please update your Outspark software to the latest supported version in order to login." when pressing the Login button.
I dont have an outspark.exe.log file so i guess the launcher program itself ran fine, it just didnt update.
The other thing is that after 2 days i have 2 different apps.conf files (sorry i dunno where i found the other one). One of the only comprising launcher and fiesta entries, the other one having launcher, fiesta and solstice in there and i am not sure which one to use, because the values for fiesta and launcher are different. one says fiesta, 75 launcher, 89 the other one launcher, 0 solstice, 3 fiesta, 0
i just noticed that solstice is not working anymore now, it gives me an outspark.exe.log file saying

WindowsError: [Error 3] Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden: 'C:/ProgramData/Application Data/Outspark/'
so i uninstalled solstice and i noticed that it was deleting and editing an apps.conf file in the directory c:\users\public\Outspark\apps.conf. i guess this must be the directory the file must be in (at least for solstice, but as the two programs are using the same launcher with another command line parameter, it should be the same right? does anyone know if there is a seperate configuration file for fiesta and solstice (in the program folders), where the path of the apps.conf has to be defined?), although as mentioned above, i already put both different apps.conf i have in that directory and it didnt change my problem. probably it has something to do with the content of this file? does anyone know what the numbers next to fiesta, launcher and solstice stand for?
i am currently downloading the solstice client again and will try to reinstall and see if at least that works again (and ill try to spot where the apps.conf is installed to).
if anyone has comments on what ive been doing until now, i would really appreciate it, because this is starting to seriously annoy me...not necessarily because i cant play fiesta, but because it seems to be such a stupid error...
maybe ive just overlooked something!
thx
EDIT: and by the way, a c:\programdata\Application Data\ folder does not exist on my computer. I tried to create it, but the system wouldn't let me rename new folders to that name or copy an Application Data folder into the programdata folder. I guess that this could be prohibited because one of the c:\users\? folders is defined as being handled as c:\programdata\application data\?! I was able to create a c:\programdata\applicationdata\ folder though (without the space between application and data), but it didnt change my problem
Update (Edit2): Downloaded Solstice client, tried to reinstall (couldnt catch the install log line telling me where the apps.conf is installed to), but when i checked the one in c:\users\public\Outspark\ after the install i noticed that the content had changed, so i guess this is the one. nevertheless, i still get the same error when trying to start solstice (outspark.exe.log file mentioned above). i have deinstalled both fiesta and solstice now and deleted all outspark related files. i am going to delete all values in my registry set by outspark and reboot hoping to get rid of absolutely everything connected to and reinstall again
SOLUTION? (Edit3): Well as i mentioned before, i erased everything i had except for the installation files. I tried reinstalling the stuff with Win2000 compatibility again but it gave me the same issue. So i tried installing it with no compatibility, solstice first, then i had the apps.conf in c:\users\public\ and i could start the launcher and the game worked again. then i installed fiesta the same way and checked the apps.conf, which now contains three lines: solstice, 3 launcher, 89 fiesta, 75.
to be honest, i dont really know why it didnt work in the first place. the only difference would be, that i installed fiesta first and then solstice, but i dont understand why this should make any difference. sorry that i cant tell you more guys, it works for me now...

-There is a apps.conf somewhere on your computer during the update process.
All you need to do is find the location and target location of it.
I don't have access to a computer with Windows Vista installed, so there is really nothing i can do to help those who are using it.

Sinch there isnt many ways this could be done incorrectly, i dont see the need for a picture guide.
Even if i would feel the need to create such a guide, i'm using a non-english version of Windows, which would mean that i would have to translate everything manually and it would end up looking like c-rap...
And that could make things even harder to understand.
But anyone is free to post one if they like, i'll copy it to the starter post in this topic.

I searched the entirety of my computer for apps.conf, and it brought up nothing. I'm running Windows Vista. I've got an old version of the game, I was trying to install the manual patch but yeah, it's not working because of this error. Unfortunately I do not have an apps.conf file.
Is there any way someone could perhaps upload their version of this file, so I could stick it in the appropriate folder? o.o

I also had problems with missing apps.conf-file and tried everything I found here but nothing worked. I tried to uninstall the game but that damn missing file prevented that too.
Then I downloaded the game file again and installed it in the same folder where I had installed it for the first time.
Installation went smoothly and when I checked the game folder there seemed to be only one Fiesta game so I didn't have two different files of the same game.
Then I launched the game and waited it to download all the patches and after that the game worked just fine.
I hope this is helpful for others.
Oh yeah and I'm using Windows Vista

for vista you should be able to find the apps.config in the c:\users\public there should be an outspark folder there and that contains the needed files and once you find it copy it to a folder labled outspark in c:\programdata\
