So I've been having this problem where I can't shut down my laptop after playing Fiesta. I believe it all started as soon as I start played Fiesta. The problem seemed to go away when I first put my computer on hibernate, then shut it down, but now even that does not work.

When I shut down my laptop, all of the icons of the programs in the Task Bar show that they are being closed (they disappear when you put the pointer over them); however, my laptop doesn't actually shut down. I'm not brought to the logging off sign. Also, the same thing happens when I click log off.

I tried performing a system restore to an earlier date. After doing this I was able to shut down my laptop after playing Fiesta; however, after a few more times I wasn't able to shut down my laptop anymore.

I'm currently using Windows Vista if that helps.

Heey, i have the sort of problem. When i shut down the laptop after playing fiesta it appears to shut down but then it stops and the normal background appears again. I just click the shutdown button again and then after a few min it will eventualy shut down for me.

This only appears after i have played fiesta. If i didnt start fiesta it will shut down as its supposed to.

Define awhile. 5 minutes? half an hour?

Last time I let it stay on to shut down on its own, the laptop was on for like 8 hours AND IT STILL DIDN'T SHUT DOWN. u.u i'm guessing there's some other trick.

Same happens to me, except it doesn't shut down after clicking shut down again. I'll try to wait it out again next time I play Fiesta.

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry for the double post, but I tried pressing "Shut Down" AGAIN and it still didn't shut down.

Have you attempted to check the Task Manager for Fiesta (and other Fiesta-related programs?) that may not properly close even when you quit the game?

From the way you explain your problem, the icons in the start menu are vanishing - this is part of a normal shut-down sequence (tasks are ended)... so your computer is going into the shut-down phase, but something is stopping it mid-way.

One thing you can check for is if X-trap or Fiesta.bin are still in the Task Manager even after you close Fiesta. If they are, you can end-task and see if shutting down works. Long-shot, though. Anywho - adios.

I'm also having this problem with the 'no-shutdown' on my Vista laptop. Did a search to find this post. I'm going to try the task manager before shutting down and get back to you here with a result a little later ...

So far I've been removing the battery to shut down the laptop (eek).

Okay I just checked this out. There are no applications listed in the task manager to shut down, and no processes listed that appear to relate to Fiesta at all. If this problem is task-manager related then perhaps there's something in the processes list I'm missing, or perhaps the problem stems from some other area.

Any assistance would be appreciated, as there's no way I'm playing this game on my laptop again until this issue is resolved. I can't keep removing the battery to shut down.

Most laptops will force a shutdown if you hold the power button down for 5~ seconds. Its not the best way to turn your laptop off but its better than taking the battery out.

I'm curious if Fiesta will run in safe mode. Since it doesn't load the video drivers, probably not but its worth a try. If after running Fiesta in safe mode you can shut down your computer, then I'm betting there is some kind of lock up occurring. At least we can conclude its a software issue, which means there is a very high probability of fixing it by doing a full re-install (as a last resort). Not the most pretty option, but at least its an option.

Some people here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistasetup/thread/21c1e2f3-f8e7-4f8c-a1bb-3876d341ce95/
...claim Windows was hanging on a USB port, and taking out the USB device let windows shut down. It was resolved by updating windows (this was in 08 though so it was a while back).

Another person there said they had an anti-virus locking up their PC... of course, none of these traits have that one variable in common with you: They don't have this issue after running Fiesta.

Does this happen with other 3-D games?

One other thing to try is to check if your video card drivers are up to date, and also there are a number of people having the same problems... you guys can cross reference your PC specs and figure out if there is anything you have in common. Like, same video-card/all use anti-virus/etc?

I'm not certified in any of this stuff, just things that come to mind that I think have at least a slight chance of helping.

Well if worse comes to worse you can do it the manual way, although don't use it too often. Just remove the battery.

No. Enough's enough really. The game's not worth endangering my laptop for. It's now uninstalled.

My laptop has been like this since i first joined the game and installed it back in august, however it's never not shut off.

I always try to use the proper shut off button on the start menu, then I just leave my computer alone, and anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour later it will finally shut off on its own

(or if it's annoying me i'll force it off by holding down the power button)

The time it takes for me to shut down the computer however seems to correspond with how long i was playing the game. If it was for hours on end, it takes forever to shut down, if i was just on for a moment, it will barely take any time at all to shut off...
which makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the amount of data it has to process to run fiesta for long periods of time

(I'm also running it on vista, if that makes any difference)

Just thought I'd add my input =/

Yeah, I won't be able to try this since I don't have access to Fiesta and haven't for awhile already. So I guess if I ever want to shut down my computer normally, then I have to play Fiesta rather shortly or something.

And there is also notthing in my task manager Fiesta related after closing the game

I have the same problem (using Vista). Once you hit shutdown, just wait a while, for me from 15 - 30 mins (sometimes very fast - less than 5 min). But since I usually turn off my laptop at night, I just leave it like that and go to sleep. I wouldn't recommend too many force shutdowns as it could damage your hardware/software in the long run.

Well i don't want to endanger my laptop like this. Isn't there a solution?
