Dark Priest is PATHETIC

Ok either someone messed up the numbers for dark priest skills, or the developers were playing a sick joke because Strike of Darkness and Vampiric attack are 100% USELESS. I've been watching a dark priest in the arena and this is what each of the attacks do:

Strike of Darkness:
18-19 damage on hit, and 17 damage per second for 8 seconds
TOTAL DAMAGE: ~155

LOL It's even worse than earth strike! What a waste of a skill!


Vampiric Attack:
110 damage
+55 hp
66mp cost

Let's consider your options: You can exploit an attack opportunity to use vampiric attack and 66 mp to deal 110 damage and heal 55 hp, or you can exploit an attack opportunity to use holy strike, and then self-heal yourself afterwards.

Compare:
Vampiric attack:
110 damage/66 mp = 1.66667 damge/mp
55 hp/66 mp = 0.83333 hp/mp

Holy Strike+Self Heal
~210 damage / 83 mp = 2.53012 damage/mp
124 hp/83 mp = 1.4939 hp/mp

So you get more damage/mp AND more healing/mp by using holy strike and self-heal. However, the disadvantage is that you can stack fire resist to weaken holy strike. So for the heck of it:

170 damage / 83 mp = 2.04819 damage/mp

So even against a target with hefty amounts of fire resist, holy strike is still better in every way.

This pretty much confirms that I'm going for the Bishop. Dark Priests have LESS offensive capability than a normal priest, whereas Bishop gets an AoE.

Now I'll admit wicked protection looks decent for picking off low hp targets, and although I haven't seen it in action, I imagine that mutation is probably good for combos. Frenzy also hits multiple targets, and is great for getting your opponents to block when they want to hit you. But overall, I don't think wicked protection, frenzy, and mutation compare at all to Holy Lightning. My conclusion is that Bishops are better for priests who want to deal damage, AND for priests who want to heal.

ur ryt ziiiv i dont even know why i picked DP the only skill i can rely on is Frenzy the other skills arent good

and i think wicked protection only reflects physical attacks

i just hope that mutation is a good skill

Stick with it Dark Priest. The class has to be there for a reason. They may balance it out later and make bishops look like dookie. From what I saw last night it was pretty bad. I was welcoming strikes of darkness to counter attack with a holy strike. You never know though. Mutation may be another form of thorns where you get to unload on someone for 8 seconds instead of 2.5.

Do not get discouraged though. you waited so long for 2nd class make sure you fully explore that class before making any rash decisions.

ok i see the dmg ur showing for the dark priest skills...i have 1 question....what lvl do u have them at? i could see thast kind of dmg at lvl 1 but what are they going to do at lvl 3+

Strike of Darkness is more like a long ranged poison, so it's not too bad. Vampiric Attack is indeed pathetic though. Wicked Protection = Annoying, to go along with self heal that's impossible =.= And Frenzy and Mutation look like nice skills :D But I still believe that Bishop has a bit of the edge overall.

I just switched my Priest to a Dark Priest. I have no interest in playing a Bishop, so I don't regret my decision but suffice to say that I'm not going to bother playing the Dark Priest any more until I see if/how they make tweaks. The poison attack is expensive and incredibly weak. All of the other classes seem to take a positive step forward and become more interesting the moment they change.

You guys should do your home work, obtaining poison on this game is a gift. The reason why its so weak is because you can kill anyone without caring what level they are or ignoring they're armors WITH poison especially if its long range. The point of that skill is for ULTIMATE battles, not STD.

my gf is going dp. Frankly i think its an interesting class. Keep in mind that dp is a combo based class. Frenzy, thorns, random attack for damage, mutation, dark strike, thorns, frenzy etc. Costs mp, but if done right you can render someone useless. Dark strike is great for stacking with a rouges or snipers poison also. One last thing to also consider. A rouges stun lasts for around 6 or 7 seconds. If a dp throws down a thorns, then thats an opertunity for more damage. But if they threw down a mutation after the thorns, it lets the rouges stun cool down enough to hit the same target again.

This is a good point. I have yet to see how that mechanic plays out given that most players aren't high enough for ULT yet, but I see where you're going with this. I suppose that Dark Priest is like playing a normal priest in PvM and I've always assumed they are for causing havoc in PvP and not really being a power class--that's why I don't have regrets. In Death Match, at least, the Dark Priest at 30 is no better than the priest at 30. Mostly, that was a bit of a let down since all the other classes seem to get immediately more fun.

I was always under the impression that DP was designed to toy around with people.
I am only level 34 right now and am nowhere near getting to 35, but Strike of Darkness and Wicked Protection are turning out to be very entertaining to use.
Wicked Protection seems to be capable of getting people to 0 hp...but they don't die. This is probably a glitch but in the meanwhile, the 0 hp person remains alive until he/she gets hit OR jumps.
Of course, you have to have the person hit you in order to get them down to 0 hp...and SoD, as a poisonous attack, makes this much easier.
So don't stress out too much about skills being "useless". The DP is designed to help you have fun.

Well its normal strike of darkness get low damage, a dark priest cant hit like a trapper or sin with poison...
I agree with u about vampire strike, isnt much usefull but look u can hit/damage/heal in the same time.

Every class has 2 useless skills, strike of darkness and vampiric attack are those for dp. Every other skill after that: frenzy, ssiyo, wicked protection are pretty useful. So I dunno what you're whining about =/ just cause DPs don't do much damage doesn't mean they suck. They're pretty awesome actually.

Frenzy is just Grab+Run/Dash+Jump or Your Own Skill.

The reason DPs ar my second fav class is because, look at there attacks they don't kill fast they slowly kill there enemies, but the main reasons are there attacks are fast. If you do the DP lvl 49 skill mutation its hard to like take a pic of it's so insanely fast.
