View Full Version : Statue of Liberty

I wonder why the Statue of Liberty has been placed in this game, and if that is not out of place, it is even worse to notice that it has been placed in the Sea of Greed...

And everyone knows where the she is located, makes me wonder if someone is trying to insinuate something about The United States of America, Could it be that Americans are Greedy? or could it be a total coencidence?

Even if some Americans are Greedy, the least you could do is not have her broke and fallen... Throw us a bone and Stand her tall with Pride or remove her!

I think you're just overanalyzing... It looks cool so why make a fuss out of it.

I like it!
It's a bit of criticism in it (no, i won't explain how and why! ^^).
And looks cool.

I just assumed the storyline will turn out to be some post apocalyptic thing, where Rumen is where New York used to be or something, civilization reverted to medieval systems, discovered magic, and all the wildlife are mutants.

Just like an EMO kid looks at a leaf falling off a tree and figures it's a metaphor for his or her life being a total failure, it seems that people will always find stuff and over-analyze it and complain :\

Yeah, my guess was the post-apocalyptic thing too...

Hey, you should have added a "Leave her where she is" option on your poll.

I kinda like it the way it is. Tells you that this is a possible look into a future of some sort. I just like how it ties in with "the real world" sorta. Huge armageddon or something that the statue managed to survive even if just a small portion. And then the world reverts to, well, what could be considered extremely sophisticated sciences to breathe life back into "magic" orrr, primative and superstitious lifestyles.

It just adds a sort of sci-fi feel to everything.

i was wondering the same thing as OP and i just seen her like twice i didnt think of the greed part, i was more thinking it was some sort of joke towards US like liberty falling and i think it was a dumb idea just make it some random giant statue

Look it is a wanabe vanilla Ice, and if you really believed in freedom of expression then you would realize that Discontent is doing just that... expressing his freedom. I bet you are not even an American

i'd like to say im not a bit emo, and i agree with the thread creator. i noticed it my first time through there, sea of greed, what the.. lady of liberty 0.o then i thought about what was written on her book in the real world, we will take your sick your poor, exc exc.. then i thought hey... fiesta... isn't that, mexican? then i said to myself WOW WOW WOW GIRL YOU ARE TOTALLY OVERANALIZING. then i went into this whole thing with myself >.< i'm kind of racist so i can't say it all here. not completly against any one race but against people that make it so easy to stereotpye a race. and now im ranting... i best just go back to playing before i get myself into trouble.

back to topic though, i kinda like the huge statue thingy but did it have to be lady liberty? did she have to be knocked over in the sea of GREED? i will admit now day america = greed or ***** there is no inbetween, your either greedy and doing well or working your ars of and getting nowhere. but what about what we were founded on? why bash that?...

sigh overanalizing could be complete coincidence... but she's a gift from the french made out of pennies... SO WHO REALLY CARES? i won't say what i think about the french except it deserves to stay how it was placed within the game. the symbolic icon it represents however does not. remove her book and all is well :)

Been jamin all night! yours truly,
Angel

Wow, of all the things to complain about.

I do believe the servers are owned and operated in the States? And I do believe the servers are not owned and operated by you? Shut the hell up and sit down. You may play this game, but it's not yours.

What proof is there thats thats the statue of liberty?

Shes not holding the book and her dress seems to be different

i wouldnt be suprised if its a statue of an ancient queen or one of the goddess that has been destroyed over time and when they destroyed the model (cut arms etc) it just accidently kinda took the shape of the statue of liberty...

Who in their right mind wants to be Vanilla Ice? No kind sir, thats my drunken tubing face....and yes, I'm American. Hell, a large portion of me is Native American even. But despite your bitter disposition and attempted insult, our point is the same. It is the freedom to criticize this country that makes it so unique, which is what the statue stands for anyway.

If the statue is to be removed for criticizing the country (if it were), then on the same note shouldn't the poster be removed for criticizing the game?

HA! Vanilla Ice......you can do better than that...right?

The statue is definitely IMPLIED to be the Statue of Liberty, although subtle changes prevent the militaristic American "patriots" from going into foaming-at-the-mouth litigation convulsions.

My preferred interpretation is that Isya IS post-apocalyptic America, and that nature and magic and mystical entities (like elves!) have gradually repossessed the earth. The dragons have re-emerged, dark elves fight with humans, yada yada yada, a classic fantasy scenario.

In this fantasy world, the meaning of the word "USA" has been forgotten and has gradually mutated into the word "Isya." Global warming has submerged Manhattan Island and changed the shape of the Jersey coast, which is where Isya is located. Uruga is about where Jersey City used to be.

Fantasy (in the Tolkein sense) is what this game is all about, and if you don't have enough imagination to appreciate, or at least tolerate, this aspect of the game, then maybe you should stick with FPS.

As for a symbol of America being in the Sea of Greed (Lower New York Harbor), well, let's face it, conspicuous consumerism is ALSO a symbol of America. I'm an American, I have two cars, five PC's , a Wii, a PSII, and my dog eats better than most of the world's children. Some of the less fortunate economies in the world might perceive my lifestyle as "greedy." Sour grapes. They would live the same way if they were lucky enough to have America's resources.

I don't have a problem with it being there. It's a fact that not all countries like the USA, and no amount of complaining is going to change that. The best you can do is just ignore it if it bothers you.

I think it's cool, and a really nice touch to the game. Makes it look post-apocolyptic and though it may be in the Sea of Greed I don't think it has anything to do with Americans being greedy... Greed is something every nation is plagued with, maybe some more so than others, but I truly doubt they insinuated what you suspect.

Don't know if this has been said b/c im not wasting any more time on the thread than this.......watch the planet of the apes.....the origional, not the one with mark wahlberg......i think this is a tribute.....

but if not...

Who cares if the developer put it there making an "insuation" or negative stereotypical generalization toward the US.....I'm from Delaware and what should I care what the developer of a video game thinks....u people may think they r gods, but they r just software developers....they don't deserve that much credit and nothing like this should be taken seriously....
