My bro jumped and pressed home while he was in the air and he couldn't get out of his mushroom.

actually you mean: press home and then jump (because of the lag and all..)
because when you're jumping and you press home it says "cant rest while jumping"

It has happened to me once.
Actually it was jump followed by press home.
If you jump and something happens in the game while you hit home right after, you get stuck in your home while the game keeps spamming you about not being able to jump when you only pressed jump once.
Apparently something in the game did not know you were jumping and put you into your home before clearing the signal to jump and then did not know how to clear the signal that you wanted to jump.
